Paul McCartney to Headline Quebec City’s 400th Birthday Party

7/1/08, 10:48 am EST

Paul McCartney will help Quebec City celebrate its 400th anniversary by performing in the French-Canadian province on July 20th. The show is expected to be Macca’s only North American concert this year, and his first performance in Canada since 2005. “Music is a good way to celebrate an anniversary like this. It’s a universal language which unites everyone,” McCartney said in a video message. “Our two countries have historic links which remain important today. We’re eager to celebrate this 400th anniversary with Quebec.” The former Beatle will perform at the city’s Plains of Abraham. Now if only the city can bring the Nordiques back into the NHL, it’d be a real party.

answer to ANONYMOUS ; the people of quebec city proove that night, and also all the french quebeckers, that WE dont need to understand the lyrics to enjoy the music, even me, i am not the pretention to say i am bilingual, but even when i am listening paul or any anglo-saxon performer, i lost 70 per cent of the meaning, but we are sensitive to the music, it says all, try to listen a french song now, are you able to, and enjoying the music of the words even if you dont understand it, thanks god a british came to salutes us for our birthday, the amercians didn t even knew then we exists…..

I was at the show of Paul McCartney
that sunday. He brought the sun,
not only in the day, also in our heart by singing BeaTles’songs, and Wings’one too. Maybe, I will never see him again in my life, this is the reason why I didn’t want to miss the show. Thanks Sir Paul

We drove from midnight for 9 hours with no sleep, waited in line near one of the entrance gates till admittance to park at 5:30. Opening acts started at 7:30 and Paul at 9:30. As exhausted as we were, it was the most amazing experience! The crowd of 250,000 were all in great spirit, singing in harmony, waving arms. Paul’s performance was amazing and despite my misgivings before this adventure, I am so so sooooo glad we went. Absolutely fantastic!!! Glad to be witness to this historic concert.

I wasn’t there, but saw plenty on Youtube. The band appeared to be particularly inspired. It turned out to be just what was announced: A party where everyone had fun, on and off stage. The musicians appeared to be totally at ease. Music was fluid, the crowd was enthusiastic, Paul made me laugh more than once. How did he learn to speak French with a Quebec accent remains a mystery to me.
Anyhow the intention was to MARK Quebec City’s 400th anniversary, and that was achieved with panache.
People will remember the event for decades. The show was recorded (Indigo?). The sound is excellent. Now… I want the DVD. I don’t have many DVDs, but this one I want.

Its nice to see that Sir Paul for Canadians on the Plains of Abraham, its also nice to see that an English invasion happened once again after 400 years later…and its an amazing feeling for the french to aknowledge that the English is the way to go…

I find it sad and sorry for the French who think that the French Language is the only they should speak in the Province and annoys me that they give you attitude when you don’t speak or try to talk to them and they say…Sorry, i don’t speak English…F–kers!

I find it hilariously funny that Paul McCartney is in the Québec celebration. Québécois will sing to the English tune but refused to share an English country with the rest of Canada. Oh the irony..ooh my Canada.
