Snoop Dogg Confirms Dr. Dre’s “Detox” is Finished

Dr. Dre’s Detox could be considered the rap equivalent of Guns n’ Roses’ Chinese Democracy. Both albums are long in the making, oft-delayed and sometimes seem entirely fictional. But as we discovered that Chinese Democracy is close to becoming a reality thanks to those leaked tracks, Snoop Dogg confirmed today that Detox is on its way as well. “That record is real, it’s coming,” Snoop Dogg said, having recently recorded tracks for Dre’s album. “I was starting to doubt it myself and then I went up in there and he played so much music for me it knocked my head off.” Snoop also adds the album is finished, and now it’s up to Dre to go through all the songs he’s culled and decide which make the final cut. “I see what he got them waiting for, it’s on and poppin’,” the Doggfather said. Snoop also revealed that Dre will produce his next record, the follow-up to Ego Trippin’.

My favorite part is how the title states that “DETOX is Finished” but then goes on to explain that it’s not quite finished yet.

I agree with the last cooment, its ridiculous to compare Guns and Roses to Dre. Its far better to compare Dre to an innovative California producer and vocalist from the past: the Beach Boy’s Brian Wilson. Both started by providing vocals to songs distinctly Californian: songs about girls, cars, and parties. As they continued to make music, both Dre and Wilson became involved in producing songs until their production styles became unique and widely regarded. As your local college music professor about the production in Pet Sounds or your local rap enthusiast about Dre’s beats. Now Brian Wilson eventually got fed up with songs about girls and cars, he wanted to do something meaningful, he wanted to make an album that would change the world. From Scott Storche’s comment that Dre’s album is the most technologically advanced hip hop album and Dre’s statements about the profundity of Detox that grow in proportion to its delay, we can only compare him to one man and one album: Brian Wilson’s legendary Smile album.

those who ahve been dr dre fans from the beginning know that he has always taken his time busting out a new album so this really isn’t anything new as far as how he’s been operating. i know rollingstone is excited aboutt he new guns n roses album getting ready to come out but to compare it to dr dre’s detox…ummm naw i wouldn’t do that. its been almost close to 18 years since a new gnr album was released? compare gnr r to THE WHO. they have been working on they followup album bout the same amount of time or more. Dr dre has no business even being mentioned to gnr. i’ll say this tho, dre hasn’t released not one abd album so this next and final one is gonna b tight, u can count on that.

This is damn good news. However I wouldn’t necessarily refer ro Detox as the ‘rap equivalent’ of Chinese Democracy. For one thing, we all know Dre has actually been WORKING since his last effort (producing tracks for other artists, etc) and getting results while Axl only has a half-assed VMA performance to his name. Secondly, it’s been about 8 years since Dre’s last album, while Axl’s… oh, excuse me, ‘Guns N Roses’ has taken close to twice that amount of time.

it’s about fuckin’ time for multiple things:

1) dre to produce snoop again–snoop’s albums are ridiculous now… especially compared to doggystyle and the like.

2) dre to come back (despite him saying on 2001–”give me one more platinum plaque and fuck rap, you can have it back”)

3) chinese democracy to be renamed to something not so played out–i don’t care about hearing the album as much as I just don’t want to hear that stupid title again.
