Adam Yauch’s “Gunnin’” Premieres; Nestle Corporation Complains

6/26/08, 6:22 pm EST

It’s been a big week for Beastie Boy Adam Yauch’s new career in the movie business: Last night his new documentary Gunnin’ for that #1 Spot had its New York premiere at Magic Johnson’s theater on Fredrick Douglass Boulevard in Harlem. The basketball film follows eight of the nation’s top high school prospects as they converge for a game at Harlem’s famous Rucker Park; last night, towering top NBA pick Kevin Love — who’s featured in the movie, and also happens to be the nephew of Beach Boy Mike Love — showed up to toss toy basketballs into the crowd. Prospects Brandon Jennings and Lance Stephenson made the scene as well.
Yauch got some more press when the film Flow — which his distribution company, Oscilloscope Pictures, is putting out — angered representatives of the Nestlé Corporation at the Nantucket Film Festival. Nestlé, a co-sponsor of the Festival, is heavily criticized in the film for its initiatives to privatize the water supply in developing countries.

t-shirts and CDs are not thrown away right after you buy them the way that water bottles are. bottled water is a huge problem and nestle is one of the major culprits.

get real, are you a nestle rep?

I wish people would become more educated before they find a ’cause.’ Does this rocker realize how much plastic goes into the CD’s he makes; How much fuel he uses to tour?? Does he realize that for each single cotten tee shirt sold at his concerts, over 400 GALLONS of water is used???
Plastic bottles are not destroying our environment. LACK OF RECYCLING is. Look at all the plastics in your home…why the heck is everyone picking on Water Bottlers? People could make more of an impact if they would approach their local government agencies and INSIST on towns and cities implementing proper recycling of trash.
I urge people to do research BEFORE jumping on any bandwagon.
