Axl Rose Penning Autobiography, Sequel to “Estranged”?

6/25/08, 4:14 pm EST

When Rolling Stone spoke with Sebastian Bach about the alleged Chinese Democracy leak, he reported that he’s heard “at least four albums’ worth” of finished Guns n’ Roses tracks, recalling a night in January 2007 when Rose rolled out new songs from midnight to 6 a.m. at New York’s Electric Lady studios. He says Rose told him that a slow, grinding track called “The General” is “the sequel to [Use Your Illusion II’s] ‘Estranged,’ that goes to the parable that Del James wrote of the trilogy” (James penned the short story that inspired the “November Rain” video). “He’s like the George Lucas of rock,” Bach marvels. “I know for a fact it’s not him saying, ‘Let’s wait and work on [Chinese Democracy] some more. He has a whole new business team. Irving Azoff is in control, along with Andy Gould. They are trying to figure out the best way to put the music out.”

In addition, Bach implied Rose is working on an autobiography. “I was saying to Axl one day, ‘I’m going to write a book.’ He was like, ‘Cool. How many pages you got?’ I go, ‘I’ve got six pages.’ He starts laughing and goes, ‘Yeah, I started my book a while back. I’m up to 12,000 words at this point,’” Bach says. “He’s very prolific. He’s just not motivated by fame at all. He’s had enough of it. He gets excited by making music, by putting on a concert. Making albums, he loves doing it.”

Charles you summed that up perfectly!!!!!

Charles Sybesma | 6/27/2008, 12:04 pm EST

Benny I agree completely with that, even know i’m not as fond of their new style as I was their old, it’s far from bad music and I bet if you told the people Saul Hudsen was playing lead guitar they would hate the music, even know Saul=Slash. It’s mainly these kids now adays making these comments, and the only reason they even know who these people are is from video games and other things of that sort. For example, not many kids new who Slash or GnR were at all before the game guitar hero. Although I did for one, and i’m a 16 year old kid, so no i’m not bashing younger people :P . I just feel that people don’t apreciate what the band has become, cause it’s not what they are used to. I really don’t like 90% of the newer music now adays, but i don’t spend my life bashing those bands, because it’s my oppinion, and people argue way too much about their clashing oppinions in not just this matter, but all matters. Again, I’m not a huge fan of GnR new style, but the band is still GnR and I still apreciate what they have given me so far to listen to, and what they will give me in the future.

The new music is awesome and while I miss seeing Axl and Slash together, I don’t get why people are still hanging onto the past?

Slash hasn’t exactly made inspired music in the past 14+ years and Axl has took 14+ years to make 4 albums, and what we’ve so far is great.

If you saw the new GN’R play in 2006, I’m sure you didn’t really care. It was great.

I guarantee if you played someone the new tracks and told them Slash was playing lead guitar they’d say that it was incredible……

When people say “It’s not GN’R” that means that Slash isn’t on lead guitar. Not that many people care about Izzy. Very few care about Duff. And then there’s the two drummers: Matt Sorum and the original mess-of-a-drummer, Steven Adler.

So at what point is it GN’R? While I love Slash and respect the former members, guitarists and drummers are replaceable, NOT the lead singer…..

If people thought more instead of posting their incoherent, unfounded opinions, then maybe they’d see that this lineup kicks some serious ass, with or without Slash…

Nice Post Charles. I think because of people’s enthusiasm for the band, you’re gonna have so many varying degrees of love/hate for what’s left. The same probably went for Pink Floyd/Roger Waters split, as another example.

I feel that Axl is getting more bad criticism than he diserves. I mean GNR’s new music might not be what it used to be, but some people like it more and some less than their old stuff. It all really depends on the type of music you like. There is no bad music, there is only peoples oppinions. Also I feel that this still is GNR, because Izzy Stradlin, and W. Axl Rose are the ones who formed the band in the first place, but again that’s my oppinion. People can’t take the change of GNR from what they were to what they are now, so they bash whichever member of the band seems most responsible for taking away your old GNR. I for one am looking forward to Chinese Democracy, even know I have not liked too much of what i’ve heard of it so far. If you don’t want to listen to Axl of hear about him, then I would reccomend not reading things about him. I personally think Axl is an amazing singer, but has some problems in his life that effect his music and atitude. But everyone is entitled to their oppinions in this subject, but I feel criticizing him for no reason is wrong. Even if you don’t like him, and feel he’s responsible that the original GNR isn’t together, just think about the subject, because if it wasn’t for Axl the band you know and love would not have ever came to be. He is the one who brought the band together, and is the voice of the band. Without him it wouldn’t be the same. Just as now without the rest of the band it’s not the same, because no matter what member it is, if you remove a member of a band it changes their experiences, and would indirectly effect the band. If you liked the album Apetite for Destruction, remember that all of the songs were writen by individual members of the band, but that the songs creation and inspiration lie in the other band members also. For example, the hit song Night Train, from the album Apetite for Destruction was written by Izzy Stradlin, but came to be because Axl, Slash, Duff, and Izzy were running through the streets drunk as hell, yelling “We’re on a night train”, which influenced Izzy to write the song. So before you criticize Axl or any other member of the band, please think that if you took any member out of the band, than it would be a completely diferent band, and that one member doesn’t make the band, and that if you want the same band, than you need all of the members; For if you want something to function properly, you need all of the parts together. So when Axl finally releases the album, it may not be what you used to know as GnR, but it’s what they are now, so people will just have to deal with it.

Charles Sybesma | 6/26/2008, 4:11 pm EST

In reallity 12000 words is really only about 6 pages.

JP | 6/26/2008, 3:19 pm EST

If the autobiography is on the same schedule as “Chinese Democracy”, then I won’t bother reserving a copy. It will never come out. It’ll be leaked bit by bit by friends and hanger-ons.

Release Date:- April 7 2064

but seriously guys, most of the people who bought ‘Appetite’ back in ‘87 will be in Retirement Homes and having Hip-Surgery by the time CD is released..

Bill | 6/26/2008, 2:48 am EST

Does anyone really care about these tired old hair-farmers anymore?

Swingline | 6/25/2008, 11:39 pm EST

Jeff,
If the songs are good, I will be the first to give them props, but at this point haven’t heard one yet. My only memories of Axl for the last 10 years are holding tickets to 2 canceled GnR shows.
So I’m a little bitter for it, and underneath hoping for something worth a stink to come out of all this, just not holding my breath.

Joshua Tree | 6/25/2008, 10:20 pm EST

Hey Josh, where are your 40 pages? Oh thats right, nobody cares.

El Rey de los Rockers | 6/25/2008, 8:42 pm EST

Hey, if I could ride anyones’ coattails it would be one of the iconic rock stars of the past 40 years. And Seabass is pretty funny, to boot.

Josh | 6/25/2008, 8:12 pm EST

Bas is a retard. 12000 words is only about 40 pages.

JohnnyD | 6/25/2008, 7:59 pm EST

Ever notice how Axl just keeps smiling to himself? Anyone other rock star would have an ego that needs to get his opinion out.

For a few years I joined in the bashing of “oh, Axl’s lame and will never release this album.” But guess what, I’ve changed my tone. The song writing in the leaked tracks is TOP NOTCH. The music industry really needs a talent like this to put out material.

I have a funny feeling this rock star hermit is gonna blow the music industry wide open. I’m not counting on it, but I sure as hell ain’t betting against it.

Jeff | 6/25/2008, 6:19 pm EST

P.S. to Swingline

Uh, correct me if I’m wrong but we’ve heard 9 nearly finished tracks (damn good ones at that) as well as a total of at least a dozen songs in various demo forms.

He makes albums. He just doesn’t release them. Get your facts straight :-)

Jeff | 6/25/2008, 6:13 pm EST

I’m thrilled that we’re getting these daily updates on Axl / the album. Thanks Rolling Stone.

But, uh, no disrespect to Sebastian Bach, but doesn’t Axl not do interviews for a reason? Is he personally authorizing all of this?

Swingline | 6/25/2008, 6:02 pm EST

“Making albums, he loves doing it.”

…it’s the releasing part he’s been stuck on for over a decade.

While one person is continuously not making music, any chance you people would like to shine a light on a couple bands that actually are?

Prolific is “to be marked by productivity.” If the last time he dropped an album is when mullets were still in style, I’d say he may have been thinking of another word, like “Savage Animal.”

Fozzie Bear | 6/25/2008, 5:39 pm EST

I think its funny, awesome, and sad that Sea-Bach is on Axl’s jock. The best thing for Axl is he doesn’t need to hire anyone to promote his record. WOCKA WOCKA WOCKA!!!
