Every Tuesday Single Minded highlights new tracks hitting stores (or the Web) this week. On Fridays, come back for rarities, remixes, mash-ups and more.
RZA, “Long Time Coming” [MySpace]
RZA’s flow still sounds like he’s got a mouthful of Mounds, but the sweet soul hook saves him once again. We’re sort of waiting for RZA to weigh in on Soulja Boy — or, at the very least, for Method Man to revive the “torture” sketch from Enter the Wu-Tang in his honor.
Mötley Crüe, “Saints of Los Angeles” [MySpace]
One of those saints? St. Rolph, patron saint of perennial comebacks. Don’t believe me? We’re talking about a new Motley Crue record. The defense rests.
T.I., “A Better Day” [New Single]
T.I. has much to recover from. Among those things: weapons possession and T.I. vs. T.I.P.. One of those is clearly worse than the other. But weapons possession is pretty bad, too. This new single isn’t quite King level, but at the very least, it’s like a mid-level prince.
The Verve, “Love Is Noise” [MySpace]
Update: the drugs still don’t work. The world’s unworthiest recipient of the “one hit wonder” tag return at last, with a song that declares “Love is noise/Love is pain/Love is these blues/That I’m singin’ again.” Good to know the intervening years haven’t screwed with their demeanor.
Lily Allen, “Guess Who, Batman” [MySpace]
No emphysema here! We are so in the tank for Lily Allen, it’s almost embarrassing. In this fragment of a new song, she attacks the narrow-minded with pure pop panache. Can she start writing campaign songs? Can she come to our house and just hang out with us for like 4 hours? Lily: we have a Wii. You can totally be Mario if you want. We’ll make bagel pizzas. It will rule.
