“Guitar Hero” Sequel Adds New Guitar, Drums and Vocals

6/20/08, 3:19 pm EST

Guitar Hero is set to go all Rock Band, as the mega-popular video game is adding drums and vocals for the upcoming Guitar Hero: World Tour. The game’s new guitar will feature a touch pad that allows note sliding, and the ax will larger, nearly replicating the size of an actual guitar. The drum kit is more sophisticated than the existing Rock Band model — the drums are wider in diameter, touch sensitive (so hitting harder produces a louder note) and include dual adjustable cymbals. Van Halen, Linkin Park and the Foo Fighters are among the initial artists that will have playable songs. Plus, players will be able to make their own music tracks (without vocals) by starting with premade bass or drum loops, then using the various instruments to play with tempo, pitch and sustaining notes. For more details on the characters and the Music Creator feature, check out IGN’s preview.

Stop whining | 10/28/2008, 4:12 pm EST

These are games people. Any time something is successful there will be other companies that make copies, Guitar Hero and Rock Band are the best of the genre but there are a few more out there. Each game has it’s own strenghts and weaknesses, and in turn attracts different buyers. Stop whining about which is better, it costs too much, it is not real (that is why it is called a game)and get a life.

Guitar Hero World Tour and Rock Band 2 both can use eithers insruments, and a few of the other games can use them too.

Guitar Hero World Tour drums in expert mode are supposed to be the exact sheet music for the songs, so for the drums, this could be a teaching game. As for the guitar, I have never found anyone who thinks that because of Guitar Hero or Rock Band they know how to play guitar.

It is a game, have fun with it!

Yeah I’m not gonna really buy this thing right away. I’m actually not being a single piece of the new gh equipment till my REAL band plays the gigs, gets the money. Then I can blow it on the cool crap like World Tour that honestly doesn’t mean a thing to our society. I still love it though!!!

morrison | 10/2/2008, 10:06 pm EST

Elements; | 6/23/2008, 8:18 am EST

Oh God, 200 bucks for this? Fuck. I want this, but 200 bucks really isn’t worth it. I’ll just get the game and wait for Guitar Hero: Metallica before I get a goddamn guitar.

toolbert | 6/22/2008, 7:47 pm EST

it sounds like this will just be an overcharted mess for all 4 parts…

WFPK dethbubble | 6/22/2008, 7:34 pm EST

The question is do people really want to congest their house/apt with more instruments for a video game? Rock Band was priced at $169.99 while GH4 will be priced at $199.99.

Tracy | 6/22/2008, 7:22 pm EST

You guys are dumb. Guitar hero got ripped off by Rockband and they are now doing this so that the video game reaper will come and take Rockband’s soul back to hell.

QOTSA | 6/22/2008, 3:14 pm EST

Rock Band II will be better than Guitar Hero: World Tour

U218 | 6/22/2008, 8:48 am EST

oh god, now what do i do with rock band when this comes out?

Scott | 6/22/2008, 2:02 am EST

The first two Guitar Hero games were made by Harmonix and Red Octane. Harmonix had the original concept and did the software while Red Octane came up with the guitar controller.

A couple years ago, Activision bought Red Octane and the rights to the Guitar Hero name. Activision put its Neversoft studio (which did the Tony Hawk series) on Guitar Hero 3. Meanwhile, MTV bought Harmonix, which then created Rock Band.

Wasn’t RB made by the same people who made GH? That mean’s they knew what they were doing, and they’re trying to attract people to the games. I found RB harder (guitar to guitar comparison) than GH, so maybe the drums and stuff will be more difficult for GH4.

Jon | 6/21/2008, 2:56 am EST

Rock Band didn’t rip off GH because the people who made the first two GH games went on to make Rock Band. GH 3 was made by different developers.

Los putas | 6/20/2008, 9:54 pm EST

Ummmmm… didn’t Rock Band sorta rip off GH with it’s idea?

Pot. Kettle. Black.

PutridSound | 6/20/2008, 8:31 pm EST

Carlos?

Los | 6/20/2008, 6:23 pm EST

Well who the hell didn’t see this coming? There’s no possible way GH could have possibly outsold Rock Band with their standard format, so they completely rip off of their idea by going all out with nearly life-size guitars and the closest thing you can get to an actual electronic drum kit. Granted, it will give them more sales, but could they be anymore obvious?
