Lollapalooza Schedule Forces Choice Between NIN and Kanye

6/17/08, 3:25 pm EST

With two months to go before Lollapalooza descends on Chicago’s Grant Park, the festival has announced the three-day schedule for August 1-3. Radiohead will headline Friday, or Day 1, of the fest, but after that, decision-making about what stage to go and when becomes difficult, as many top caliber bands perform in the same time slots. Among the scheduling predicaments you might face: Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks vs. the Raconteurs on Day 1 and the Royal Rumble scheduled for 6:15pm on Day 3 between Gnarls Barkley, Girl Talk and Love & Rockets. But the most difficult decision you’ll have to make is which Day 2 and 3 headliners to see, as Day 2 has Wilco facing off against Rage Against the Machine and Day 3 schedules an 8:30pm head to head between Nine Inch Nails and Kanye West. While that sucks, thankfully the Lollapalooza website is allowing you to create a custom schedule to help you navigate through the seven corporate-sponsored stages. “Here come the racist metal head jerk offs talking down Kanye for whinefest for wannabe goths ‘08… ”

ok…

OR people realize that Kanye blows off the crowd and has them waiting till 3:00 AM to go on for 45 minutes (Bonaroo), while NIN gives away their latest album for FREE over the internet and has become an Icon for bands and the music industry altogether these days. I’d want to see them alone for the experimentation they have been doing. That being said, many would say its still all about the music, but don’t go putting down NIN fans if your just going to stereotype. I like both artists, but have no RESPECT for Kanye, and MUCH RESPECT for Reznor and NIN.

Why would anyone go see Kanye West? He’s a talent-free nitwit.

Lollapalooza wants your $$$ | 6/18/2008, 12:19 pm EST

Tipycal 90’s thing to do, the Lollapalooza organization are trying to create a competition.

Why paid for all these artists if you can see just one?

Art is not a competition.

NIN>West

That’s a no brainer for anyone. How often is rap worth while live? Let alone it’s most overrated offering…

matt | 6/18/2008, 11:02 am EST

Well if Kanye’s set goes on a few hours too late, the problem solves itself, doesn’t it?

The White Volta | 6/17/2008, 11:51 pm EST

This wouldn’t be hard for me because I would for go everyone for the racs, definetly the Raconteurs, Gnarls Barkley, Rage Against the Machine, NIN. I would go back and forth between Kanye and NIN.

Fozzie Bear | 6/17/2008, 10:51 pm EST

Can you imagine……reunited Stone Temple Pilots vs. reunited Guns and Roses vs. Audioslave vs. Velvet Revolver. Now THERE’S a lineup! WOCKA WOCKA WOCKA!!!

Kanye's ego | 6/17/2008, 10:22 pm EST

I want my own time slot, Radiohead should be against NIN not me. I am the best, no one else should be at the festival but me. People should wait 3 days just for me. I am the best!

Miguel | 6/17/2008, 10:20 pm EST

Is Kanye okay with this? I am suprised he is not crying like he did at Bonnaroo-I was there and did not even waste my time waiting for the loser. I was off rocking to Ghostland Observatory. Kanye should not be headliner. NIN has much more cred and longevity then Kanye. This is not a hard choice.

Kyle M | 6/17/2008, 7:55 pm EST

having to make so many choices is never fun, especially this year.

Black Keys or Gogol Bordello

Raconteurs or CSS or Cadence Weapon or The Cool Kids or Stephen Malkmus or Bloc Party (all these acts overlap the 90-minute Raconteurs set)

BSS or Battles is tough too

Also, having Does It Offend You, Yeah? on at 11:45 am seems just a tad early

Ben | 6/17/2008, 7:06 pm EST

yeah..wilco vs reunited RATM…..that is a tough choice…………………… ………………………… ………………………… ..

loureed1977 | 6/17/2008, 6:52 pm EST

Kanye will be a let down. Go see NIN to show respect for an artist with integrity. Kanye is all ego. I feel bad about his Mom and respected his coming up with Jay Z but the moment he hit it big, he dissed Jay Z and became an egotistical douche. I hope he goes the way of Brittney Spears and shoots himself in the foot so many times, he’ll become exposed for the talent-less joke he is

Los | 6/17/2008, 5:55 pm EST

Black Keys vs. Gogol Bordello? RATM vs. Wilco? NIN vs. Kanye (in which case we can actually hope for his incompetence)? That’s why Bonnaroo is the festival of the summer. Not only were there more good acts, but the scheduling was cohesive as hell. Lollapalooza is denying its attendees half of the reasons they are going.

CMONZ | 6/17/2008, 5:31 pm EST

Go ahead and pick NIN, Kanye will delay his show. Hes scared to play at the same time as another big act.

Jeffy | 6/17/2008, 5:28 pm EST

Dude, Wilco and RATM at the same time? Those two are way to good to schedule opposite each other.

Anonymous | 6/17/2008, 5:01 pm EST

Kanye West will be late so you’ll be able to see both! No worries!

Tawfiq | 6/17/2008, 4:35 pm EST

This is really a bad schedule.

Scott P | 6/17/2008, 3:57 pm EST

Battles vs. Broken Social Scene is definitely the toughest decision to make, the two best non-headlining bands against one another.
