Pixies’ “Doolittle” Coming to “Rock Band” This Month

6/13/08, 12:01 pm EST

The Pixies’ “Wave of Mutilation” is already included on Rock Band, but as of June 24th (for Xbox) and June 26th (for PlayStation), users will be able to download “Tame,” “Here Comes Your Man,” “Gouge Away” and the other 11 tracks on the band’s 1989 album Doolittle and impersonate Kim Deal, Frank Black, Joey Santiago and David Lovering in the comfort of their own homes. The record is the third full album to see release in the game’s music store (after Judas Priest’s Screaming for Vengeance and the Cars’ self-titled LP). Each track costs $1.99 (160 Microsoft Points for Xbox 360), or you could nab the whole album for $18.99 (1520 Microsoft Points for Xbox 360). Fortunately for Rock Daily, we got a chance to demo the Pixies tracks yesterday — click here to check out our first impressions.

OnTopic, “Well that’s just like your opinion, man” - The dude.
But seriously, I’m not going to go back and forth with a worthless “you suck, they suck” conversation, but you should at least respect The Pixies’ influence on Music for a good decade or so. Kurt Cobain repeatedly stated they were his main influence. When Kurt wrote ’smells like teen spirit’ he admittedly tried to rip off The Pixies. Oh and I’m not sure if Radiohead is a good enough band for your obviously superior taste, but Thom Yorke hails Frank Black as one of the greatest songwriters of the late 80s.
Listen, I know The Pixies sound like noise at first, but when you listen to them, you’ve really got to let yourself go. I’m sure that someone with an ear as developed as yours would come to appreciate them in time.
I’ll concede, however, that the album might be a little too obscure for the casual music fan, and so perhaps not ideal for a party Rock Band scenario. I’m still gonna love playing it though!

kylebrooklyn, maybe you should re-read it. I said they are more fun to play (hence the better band parts) portion of the statement in response to how they play in a game. Musically, both are awful, with Pixies being only slightly less awful.

The Pixies were the sound of the 90’s before the 90’s even arrived. If only I had Rock Band, or atleast if only my friends who do have the game knew or cared who the Pixies were.

Judas Priest better than the Pixies?
I think you fried your brain when you were perming your hair

This is a bad album and if you watch the video preview of the songs, not interesting or particularly fun to play. The Cars and Judas Priest have more interesting songs and better band parts, respectively, but neither of those are things that a bunch of people want to sing and play when they get together. In the end, Rock Band is a game, not an educational tool about lesser known indie acts. They need to have more songs like ‘More Than a Feeling’ or ‘Don’t Look Back in Anger’ that every person can get behind.

I wanna grow up to be…be a debaserrrrr!

It would be cool if Rock Band added two vocal tracks down the road. Especially with the harmonies of the Pixies.

Props to Rock Band for their album obscurity. When they first mentioned the album idea, it was led by “Nevermind” and “Who’s Next”, leading to believe it was gonna be nothing but the obvious.
But Judas Priest, The Cars and The Pixies were about as far from the obvious as they could get, keep ‘em coming!

Nice. Playing “No.13 Baby” is gonna be sweeeet.
