Great interview; DC’s going to be a megastar

sprocket79 | 6/11/2008, 5:46 pm EST

Holy cow David Cook wants to write with Butch Walker! I knew I liked him for a reason! I hope it happens, because it would be an amazing song.

Jenna | 6/11/2008, 6:57 pm EST

Wonderful interview. So refreshing to hear David being asked about music and not about AI or his lovelife. Can’t wait to hear his first album… I think he’s here to stay.

Pat G. | 6/11/2008, 7:20 pm EST

What a smart, level-headed, down-to-earth, NICE kid. So great to see somebody who’s worked hard and pursued his dream have some success and affirmation. My whole family loves David, from the ‘tweens to the aging baby boomers. We look forward to his recording whenever it’s ready; my only admonition is that he take it slowly and get some rest. Exhaustion is not god for the vocal cords or the creative process. Thanks to RS for a great interview. Look forward to buying the magazine when it hits the stands.

rncoco | 6/11/2008, 8:54 pm EST

Really good video, full of interesting information. Cook seems like such a nice, level headed, down to earth kind of guy. I can’t wait for his CD. I listen to his Idol stuff everyday

astolat | 6/11/2008, 8:54 pm EST

Okay, and yet again, RS, you guys pull off a terrific interview. Intelligent questions! Actual new information in the answers! No fluff! Thank you. And the associated article is great also — fabulous picture (although ha, what was up with Cook doing the vampire collar in the photo shoot behind-the-scenes?). Will be picking this issue up for sure.

Paaty | 6/11/2008, 9:07 pm EST

David Cook is just perfect,
can’t wait for his album :)

originalorange | 6/11/2008, 9:56 pm EST

Thanks for this RS!! So excited to see DC in your magazine and on the COVER someday soon!!

Rockit | 6/11/2008, 10:17 pm EST

Thanks RS for a great interview. Can’t wait for the print article. I hope you continue to cover David’s music.

JohnnyD | 6/11/2008, 11:24 pm EST

Wow, I despise American Idol but this guy may be what AI needed to win over the rock fans.

Our Lady Peace?! Big Wreck?! Dude will be able to tour for years with an ear on the ground like that.

Finally someone who obviously enjoys the position hes in. Knowing hes not gonna have to sing pop shit for the rest of his money-making career, cause he won it without kissing ass.

Kudos!

Shari G. | 6/12/2008, 12:48 am EST

Excellent interview. There is something very satisfying to me that Rolling Stone is embracing David Cook as a performer. I see his success as a revival of rock for an entire generation who has lost sight of it. Thank you for an informative piece that just reconfirms my belief that David Cook is the real deal and destined for a music career with substance.

SugarCookie | 6/12/2008, 1:34 am EST

Damn fine article. The writer nailed down so much detail that has been lacking in other interviews so that we finally get a truer and more balanced picture of who Cook is. And I have to say, the more I learn about him the better he looks.

I already know how great he sounds. I have everything from early Axium through Analog Heart and AI on my Ipod. He’s made me love music again when everything had been blah for awhile. He’s not only smart; he has real passion for real music.

Nicole | 6/12/2008, 6:14 am EST

Thanks for the great and revealing article! David is currently the most popular and the most-loved person on this planet. Why so? He’s the “whole package” with a universal appeal. It’s been a long time since America came across someone like him who sings like the song’s only meant for you; his ruggedly handsome look with the guitar is awesome;
(the face, with the soulful eyes and gaze is to die for!!)… But I guess he tugged everyone’s heart with the fact that he’s not afraid to show emotions; that being vulnerable doesn’t make him less of a man!

The best thing I like about him is his attitude: his feet are firmly planted on the ground; He doesn’t talk back to the judges like other Idol contestants. I admired the way he treated the other well-loved David A. when he won. He shared the victorious moments the whole time with him by putting his arms around him and patting his head as if comforting him coz he knows how he must be feeling coz everybody is expecting he’ll win but did not!

In this whole worldwide frenzy about David, I would like to congratulate his parents, specially his Mom, for raising such a wonderful and gifted son with good values and a kind heart. He wouldn’t be what he is now if not for love and support of his family.

Andrea | 6/12/2008, 1:56 pm EST

Thanks for the great article. Really looking forward to David’s CD. I believe he’s going to have a great singing and songwriting career.

Bee | 6/13/2008, 4:17 am EST

Thank you RS, Great interview. I love David Cooks music and I can’t wait to buy his cd.

Sophie | 6/13/2008, 12:56 pm EST

David Cook ROCKS. You guys should put him on the cover.

sk8alotz | 6/13/2008, 1:08 pm EST

great video! David is a great communicator both in music and spoken words. listening to this video is soothing. he definitely is a man with confidence and a clear vision. love him!

KeLi | 6/13/2008, 1:09 pm EST

Thanks for the wonderful article. I was able to read it yesterday, but got the video link from Davids myspace. I have become such a big fan(my hubby may be jealous)!! Keep up the good work RS and DC!

ACforDCook | 6/13/2008, 1:14 pm EST

David Cook is the real deal. He will influence rock music for years to come. Discovering David was no accident, it was karma.
Peace.

David Cook gives us hope that real rock is still alive and well in America, living in a beautiful soul. We all want to thank him for sharing his gift with us. My mom loves him at 77 years old, I love him at 40 (something…LOL), and my daughter loves him at 23. He makes everyone smile…just watch the audiences.

Anonymous | 6/13/2008, 1:37 pm EST

Loved the interview .Love David Cook.
Im so excited for his new cd.

Abigail | 6/13/2008, 1:39 pm EST

DC is so well spoken and I know this will be heard in the songs he will be writing for years to come.

The songs from his past album have alot of substance and the future ones will only foster that train of thought. The Truth on Analog Heart (acoustic version) is awesome.

Thank you for allowing us to get a glimpse of him as an artist and
looking forward to hearing more of David Cook. He has brought me back to music as a listener.

All the best.

Julia | 6/13/2008, 1:40 pm EST

Love you David Cook.Great interview!!!!
I cant wait for your new CD to come out.

sew_what_2000 | 6/13/2008, 1:51 pm EST

I agree that it is refreshing to hear David talk intelligently about his music. This interview was great. It is my opinion though that on Rock alone, David may not have won AI. It is because he is versatile in many genres of music and his song writing and arranging skills that make him stand out. I do think I would enjoy any song he does. It is good that he is aware of the pitfalls in quickly acquired fame such as his. I like that he admires and appreciates other musicians, but wants to make a “David Cook” album. He has a God-given talent and as long as he remembers that, he will be able to enjoy making music and we will be able to enjoy listening to him for a long, long time. May God continue to bless you, David.

Pam | 6/13/2008, 1:53 pm EST

This is an awesome interview and I can’t wait for the album!

Denean | 6/13/2008, 1:54 pm EST

How luckky are we that such a talent “accidentally” tried out! I’m pretty sure this is proof that THERE ARE NO ACCIDENTS! David Cook was destined, hahah! Way to go Cook! We’re still behind you and eagerly awaiting the new album!

Okie | 6/13/2008, 3:09 pm EST

Great interview! My son will be getting the mag. in the mail soon, but my thoughts are he will never get his hands on it. He’s not an AI fan and I haven’t swayed him over to being a Cook fan either, but I’m working on it. So-o-o looking forward to David’s CD coming out in the fall. Also, have two tickets to OKC concert in Aug. It’s my anniversary and this is a gift from my husband!

ksuwildcat | 6/13/2008, 3:19 pm EST

Excellent interview! I can’t wait for his album.

MichelleAngela | 6/13/2008, 3:23 pm EST

Hi-David’s blog sent me here..
LOVE THIS!!! Good Vid-interview, David is so articulate and engaging. He is like a great mentor that we continue to learn from, I will def be checking out the groups he mentions. I cant believe he was never discovered before AI…Such talent, and yet so down to earth..My ears are burning to hear the new cd he creates..I think we have only seen the tip of the iceberg…Thanks Rolling Stone!..Peace!!

Christina | 6/13/2008, 3:50 pm EST

DC’s blog sent me here too…i’m willing to bet he’ll be AI’s biggest success story yet!!! he’s put together some great CDs in the past…can’t imagine improvement but he’s surprised me before (being the Bon Jovi fan i am, i begged him-via my tv-to NOT screw up his audition…needless to say, i was pleasantly surprised and HOOKED!!!)! :) thanks for the interview!

jacksmama | 6/13/2008, 4:40 pm EST

Lisa | 6/13/2008, 10:22 pm EST

Myspace led me here btw! Eagerly awaiting any info on David Cooks new, & will be long running, career! What happened to him was no accident, it was his destiny, how cool is that for us! David Cook WILL ROCK the world, as he did on AI. I guarantee he will Grace the Rolling Stone a few times. BTW, Great interview too!

Just_A_Girl | 6/13/2008, 10:31 pm EST

Kristy | 6/14/2008, 4:54 am EST

So glad he accidentally became Idol. His musical talent was bound to be accessible by all. Loved the interview. BTW, I found this link through myspace.

Susan in Germany (CMN) | 6/14/2008, 6:16 am EST

Thanks RS for a great interview; one with some substance to it. I’m really excited that David wants to work with Dave Grohl. With David’s sense of humor, I can see him in a music video along the lines of the Foo Fighters “Big Me.” FYI, I just watched a video on YouTube, and Grohl does not like Mentos thrown at him during concerts.

David’s Idol win was no accident. While most of us love him when he’s got his Les Paul, we were in awe when he performed his arrangements of Lionel Richie’s “Hello” and Mariah Carey’s “Always Be My Baby” on Idol. His ability to arrange music is a gift, and I can hardly wait to hear his album in the fall. David’s “Music Of The Night” performance added another layer to his multidimensional talent.

David has the potential of taking Rock Music off the back burner, putting in on the front, and cranking up the gas. I can’t understand why Axium didn’t take off like a rocket. I find it curious that David said “I got into the game a little late.” If someone gave him Pearl Jam’s TEN in 1992, the year it busted out, David was only 9 years old. And I wonder how old he was when he went to that Motley Crue concert. My heart’s been kick started, that’s for sure. The point to be made is that he is young. And for someone his age to be as grounded, appreciative, humble, yet confident is remarkable. Lastly, I selfishly request that David Cook be on the cover of your next issue.

Lisa Barry | 6/14/2008, 6:32 am EST

I just got here from David’s myspace page & I absolutely loved this interview!!! Rolling Stone, you should DEFINATELY front cover him soon!!! I can’t wait for his CD & I can’t wait for him to be on the cover!! Keep doing amzing work R.S. & David!!!

Tiffany | 6/14/2008, 4:19 pm EST

I love DC’s music as well as his heart. He’s “My Hero.” Rock on, David.

jofrommo | 6/15/2008, 12:02 am EST

Steve | 6/15/2008, 2:47 am EST

Great interview. I agree with most of the previous comments. Not only is he a talented musician, but he’s extremely humble and articulate, which is very refreshing. Can’t wait for his album.

Annie Roney | 6/15/2008, 12:45 pm EST

David Cook is falling perfectly into the role of his success….he is
definitely a fan keeper and I am very excited to see all the great things that will come from him.

Indyfan | 6/16/2008, 10:48 am EST

I can’t think of another musician whose music I have more eagerly awaited or who has hit me the way David Cook has. What an immense talent! Keeping up with his music and interviews has led me to iTunes downloads, blogs, YouTube, mySpace… and the list goes on. I’m not the only one. Seems like he’s had an impact beyond music, and there’s a story in there somewhere. I had given up on finding any new rock I could enjoy, but he changed all that. Thank you, David Cook! Great article, by the way.

land of enchantment | 6/16/2008, 6:02 pm EST

Great interview-David Cook is so articulate and thoughtful he deserves to be asked questions of substance. I am a huge fan of his musical talent and also his performances, he does have something that really connects with his audience. I think his inner beauty, intelligence and feelings for his songs comes through, he is obviously a man of “substance” and already a “renaissance man”. Please as others have requested, put him on the cover-I think he deserves it!

linzylou182 | 6/16/2008, 6:10 pm EST

Props to the ’space for leading me here. I can’t get enough of this gorgeous man. This will be the 2nd RS I ever buy – the first of which being when JT was on the cover during his Nsync days. There’s nothing sexier than a man with facial hair and a nice set of…pipes.

vistalakrgrl | 6/16/2008, 9:26 pm EST

The audition may have been by accident, but the rest was fate. He won us all over from the very beginning. I can’t wait to watch his career blossom.

tb | 6/17/2008, 2:17 pm EST

I had lost all interest in music until DC. He is going to help the music industy so much! I love him. Thank you for doing a great interview.

Julie | 6/18/2008, 9:30 pm EST

I’ve read through the various comments and see myself in so many of them, extolling their love for David the person, David the singer, and David the artist.

You have touched my soul, as you have so many others.

See ya, David, in Columbus on July 20th! Take care and thank you for sharing yourself with your fans.

Jewels | 6/19/2008, 7:38 pm EST

You know what David Cook has done? He has put himself out there and everyone has fallen in love with him. Simple as that! True Love that’s what everyone is experiencing. He so honest and real and doesn’t apologize for it. Not to mention he is terribly gorgeous and those vocals….. Every interview I watch he just keeps getting sweeter and sweeter. He has been such a pleasure to watch and I look forward to following his career. Hope he doesn’t get hurt too much!! We got your back David!
Love Jewels

Anonymous | 6/19/2008, 7:51 pm EST

David Cook you are an amazing person, more than your great looks and amazing voice I’d like to meet the personality of David Cook the real you. I would love to sit and have a conversation with you, I think that would be awesome to get to know you the person. I can’t wait to see you in the AI tour and in your own tour.

beckyc811 | 6/19/2008, 10:33 pm EST

Finally, America gets it right on AI! David is the real deal. His amazing talent and caring attitude have won the hearts of millions. This interview was AWESOME! How refreshing to see someone who has their feet on the ground while thier head is in the clouds. Rock on DC! God bless you!

wesselfran | 6/21/2008, 11:27 am EST

This is the first copy of RS I have ever bought because of the article on david cook. Great interview for a great artist with many years of sucess ahead of him.

shopper | 6/22/2008, 1:50 am EST

Great interview. David is smart and knows what he wants. I applaud his comment that “he can always make money”, he followed his dream and it paid off. He’s doing things his way which shows confidence in himself and what he believes in. He’s not just a great musician but a great and talented person as well.

jennyj | 6/24/2008, 3:23 pm EST

I have been a Mellencamp fan for years and have always been a rocker chic at heart. A feeling of guilt came over me when David appeared. John will always be dear to my heart and soul, but my car and home stereos have not played John since May 22, 2008. Thus the guilty feeling. David is talented, charming, humbled and HOT!!!! I have found my new obsession!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

libertine | 6/26/2008, 12:12 am EST

Great article – will be my first RS purchase ever! We Kansas Citians are so proud, and glad that the rest of the country (world?) has taken notice as well. He is the real deal…and loved by my 88 year-old mother, myself, and my 21 year-old daughter…he bridges the generations effortlessly. Love the man, love his music.

willa | 7/13/2008, 6:43 pm EST

Everything about David Cook is so refreshing. He is so talented and well grounded, I have such high regard for this young man, he seems to have worked hard to get where he is, and I suspect he will be around for a long, long while.
He is such a sweetheart..America loves him!

Julz | 7/21/2008, 10:25 am EST

Finally-a pure talent! David Cook is what this world needed. Great interview. DC- I hope you get everything you want- you deserve it! Can’t wait for your first album, and second, and third and….you get the picture!!
