Pearl Jam Reveal Bootleg Plan, Hook Up with Verizon

6/11/08, 9:15 am EST

Pearl Jam has rolled out their plan to distribute their live concert bootlegs from their U.S. tour, kicking off tonight in West Palm Beach, Florida. As in years past, Pearl Jam will sell MP3 and FLACs of the complete concert two weeks after the show on their website. This time around, though, the band will also allow fans to purchase physical CDs of the concerts which will ship within three weeks of the show date. And “by request from fans who are increasingly accessing their music via their mobile phones,” Pearl Jam will also select three highlights from each concerts and make them available through Verizon’s VCast system. One of the three songs from each concert will be a free download, with fans given the option to purchase the remaining tracks. The songs can then be used as ringtones, ringback songs or just for listening purposes.

They ask that people not trade freely until they are no longer for sale. some people do anyways but either way you can still get them free, sometimes you just have to wait a little while. It is a great service and does anyone remember paying outrageous amounts of money for inferior quality boots. (Most $ they charge is $16.99 for a burn to order copy of the show, $10 for downloadable mp3s. sure they profit but wouldn’t you?) Kudos to the band and people who pay for boots and share them freely. Keep on Rockin’

To who ever say this:

“PJ aren’t trying to make a mint…they encourage people to trade bootlegs”

Man sounds more like they encourage people to BUY bootlegs, it’s all about money.

GREAT TO HEAR THAT,HOWEVER, IT WOULD BE BETTER TO FIND THEN IN STORES AS WELL, NOT JUST THRU THE WEBSITE BUT TALKING ABOUT PEARL JAM IT’S REALLY COOL AND IT ENCOURAGES ME TO LOOK FOR THEM QUICKLY!

You know what the best part of this program is? You don’t have to buy a boot unless you want it. They aren’t forcing you to listen, are they? This program simply gives fans that want a second listen a chance to in higher quality sound formats than a personal recording.

PJ aren’t trying to make a mint…they encourage people to trade bootlegs…

my god, even as a pearl jam fan, haven’t we already had our fill with billions of 2-star bootlegs where eddie either forgets lyrics altogether or mangles them to the point of incomprehensibilty?

enough already.

They should do it like Ratdog/Bob Weir who sell the discs immediately following the shows and make a small mint rather than waiting for others to distribute for free…
