Even though Republican presidential candidate John McCain is using “Johnny B. Goode” as one of his campaign songs, rock icon Chuck Berry has made it known that in the upcoming election, he is fully behind Barack Obama. Berry expressed relief that the U.S. has reached a point where its people can vote for “a man of color and that not be a drawback.” “In the Fifties there were certain places we couldn’t ride on the bus, and now there is a possibility of a black man being in the White House,” Berry said. “You have to feel good about it.” Berry’s vote comes after Obama managed to secure the crucial support of super delegates Springsteen and Dylan.

There’s a rumour going around that Bo Diddley is also endorsing Barack Obama from beyond the grave.

Can Chuck Berry even vote anymore? Who drives him to the polls?

To kliff – Trust me, Chuck has done six European tours this year, one city a night, one country a night. His kids cannot even keep up with him. And he insists on driving himself everywhere once he hits each city. He does not like anyone driving him anywhere.

Now that Obama’s made it, it’s interesting to recall, from CB’s memoir, how his father used to caution him that “many a black man dreamed his last dream where he thought he had a right to be”.
America still can blaze a trail for social progress; the countries normally considered more “progressive” than us have yet to reach the milestone that we passed on January 20th.
Old Henry Berry Sr. would never have imagined this!
