Led Zeppelin Members Rock With Foos, Jimmy Page Talks Reunion

6/9/08, 10:47 am EST

Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones joined the Foo Fighters on stage this weekend as the Foos played London’s Wembley Stadium. The LZ duo played two songs with the band, with Grohl taking over drums and drummer Taylor Hawkins taking vocals on “Rock And Roll” before Grohl returned to the mic for “Ramble On.” Grohl, who has expressed his desire to fill in for John Bonham since Zeppelin first announced their reunion concert last year, told the crowd “Welcome to the greatest day of my whole entire life.”

The Foo concert also provided Page a venue to field more questions about whether or not Zeppelin will reunite again for a full tour. Page, who has been in favor of a reunion tour since the onset, said the band is ready to play more shows. Unfortunately, the members of the band all have individual projects to tie up, Page added, so fans might have to wait until autumn 2009 before Zeppelin re-launches.

As bad as the sound is in that YouTube clip, it still looks like it must have been an amazing night.

Plant is killing everybody with the wait. Just announce and get it on guys!

Waiting | 6/9/2008, 12:34 pm EST

Hey Plant, Ditch Alison Krause and whatever else your doing and just reunite already

waiting | 6/9/2008, 12:37 pm EST

Hey PLANT, DITCH ALISON KRAUSE and reunite with LZ already!!! It’s really selfish when bands (or in this case robert plant) do this crap. Same with Pink Floyd…I would much rather see Pink Floyd than LZ but it will do for now

spiritross | 6/9/2008, 1:13 pm EST

Grohl really has to put this mediocre project to rest (his own phrasing when speaking of the Foo Fighters) and go back to playing the drums

Its like if Jimi Hendrix stopped playing guitar and took up keyboards

j.page | 6/9/2008, 2:03 pm EST

what lucky ppl.. imagine going to a show and being surprised two living legends play an encore set

im so jealous

jay | 6/9/2008, 2:10 pm EST

Damn who thought Taylor had such a good voice

SVUF | 6/9/2008, 2:45 pm EST

Not bad, but I would rather see Jason the younger behind the skins!! Of course, Robert Plant on vocals!! C’mon…Led Zep tour already!!

Anonymous | 6/9/2008, 3:30 pm EST

Hey Jason B. We know you are Johns Son and all. But my goodness, Dave Grohl is a better fit and a better drummer. He is a beast.

gerthkebler | 6/9/2008, 3:32 pm EST

WOW! I agree totally with the earlier poster, Grohl should be behind that kit. That was as close to Bonham as Ive ever seen! Jason has the gig obviously but Grohl plays with intensity! Pagey, if you need a back up….

kcv | 6/9/2008, 4:06 pm EST

someone in the band could die by autumn 2009, it’s like, get on w/ it. page will be pushing 66 by then!

t | 6/9/2008, 4:34 pm EST

agreed, kcv. enough waiting for plant, time to hire sammy hagar and hit the road !

Scooby | 6/9/2008, 4:57 pm EST

Yeah! Robert Plant needs to stop bangin’ Alison Kraus and move on to some fresh new poontang while on the road with Led Zep! This way we’ll all be happy.

Drewdog | 6/9/2008, 5:56 pm EST

t, are you out of your mind??!!! You want to replace a legend like Robert Plant with someone as crappy as Sammy Hagar?? Yeah, keep smokin’ bud, t.

RV | 6/9/2008, 7:31 pm EST

I was at the show in London this past December. Jimmy was on fire!! Jason was better then expected and should remain behind the kit.

it was a good day | 6/9/2008, 7:55 pm EST

haha, ol’ Davey really enjoyed that, I can tell…

Marv | 6/10/2008, 3:17 am EST

Dave is my personal Idol.

The Seeker | 6/10/2008, 10:48 am EST

Too bad Grohl blew it on vocals.

RAMBOOOL ONNNN

NAOWS THE TIME THE TIME IS NAOW

SCREAM SHOUT BLAH BLAH

snoop | 6/10/2008, 11:41 am EST

i heard jesus will join the foos on stage at their next gig.

Yawn | 6/10/2008, 3:53 pm EST

Short of John and George coming back from the dead and re-uniting with Paul and Ringo, what’s the diff? What a sad state of affairs when the best thing rock can offer is tours by guys in their 60’s.

draw345 | 6/10/2008, 5:50 pm EST

I was at the gig when Led Zep came on stage with Foo’s and it was amazing, the sound and everything was just perfect. well worth the £47 we all had to pay

Dj | 6/10/2008, 11:53 pm EST

“sad state of affairs in Rock music” Well I’m sure if Jones and Page could stay 25 forever they would.News flash- This clip is pretty F’n ROCKIN.Greenday should hope they rock this much at 60.In fact, I don’t think those frauds have rocked this much YET!

Thompson | 6/11/2008, 10:34 am EST

dave grohl and taylor should switch! Both do both so well, Foo Fighters deserve all they get. Taylor’s solo album was great too. Happy for the Foos!

luvzoso | 6/24/2008, 12:47 pm EST

I went to the LZ reunion concert last December. The guy that said “is the best rock and roll has to offer is a bunch of 60 year olds ?” he was obviously not at the London o2!

Sir James of Barking | 7/14/2008, 10:35 am EST

I was at the FF gig and it was truly stunning. PLEASE let them reform. So if you’re reading this – Oi! Plant! Sort it out! Ditch the bitch and get with the band!

JoeFromToronto | 10/6/2008, 12:08 pm EST

Pagey needs to make an executive decision regarding Plant. there are som fantastic singers out there that can sing Led Zep better than Robert Plant. Look what Foreigner did recently. Problem is…can you still call it Led Zeppelin with Robert Plant alive and kicking!?! Maybe you just call it “JP & JPJ”. Heck there was Page and Plant!

Why not “JP & JPJ” tour? There was Page and Plant

openwide | 10/6/2008, 1:29 pm EST

Plant is the only vocalist that should ever interpret zep. As for Jason–I have yet to hear some clear recordings of work with zep at the 02 arena. When I think of a drummer for a zep tour–he has to have that ‘feel’ John had…the ability to feel where JPJ is going, floating out of the measure with tasty hard licks and returning bang on time never leaving the band hanging—zeppelin needs a drummer like that–if it is at all possible to find…is Jason that guy? I am not really sure…is Dave Grohl? They are great drummers..but the FEEL and STYLE Bonham had is diiferent than a drummer who can just reproduce what he played. Page, Jones and Plant have that unique ability to feel the groove, change it up live spontaneously making the listener groan with gladness, hearing zep music interpreted in tasty and subtle unexpected ways. That should be the only way the band ever tours.
I respect them so much for their musical accomplishments—I pray that they only rise up upon the musical tidal waves they created and surf it with elegance –dancing on top of the waves –not be swallowed by it.

Waiting | 7/31/2009, 10:06 pm EST

Has anyone heard Randy Jackson, lead singer of the Zep cover band Zebra? He tours with “The Music of Led Zeppelin” and is AWESOME! My better half thinks he sounds today like Plant used to sound back in the day.
