6/6/08, 3:41 pm EST

We caught up with newly-crowned American Idol David Cook last week, and were at such a loss for words that all we could do was give him some questions from fans. Click above to find out if the self-proclaimed “word nerd” has met any crossword puzzles he couldn’t solve.

Fantastic interview with great questions. Love when he cracked up at the girls’ editing their video so their names pop up as they’re saying them. The best question was from the lady who asked what he’d learned from his past music experience. Super question. Her accent was cool. “Axium” became “Axiyooom”. :)

David is indeed the real deal and I called that one back when he had the scary hair and argyle vest kickin. Oh and date whoever you want to David. The fans that are here for your music rather than school girl fantasies could care less.

Daria | 6/9/2008, 2:39 pm EST

David, I used to like you so much. But the whole thing with the Hollywood gals (KC esp) were bothersome. I wish you’d keep these people on the down low and you focus on your music because honestly, the girl rumors are a turn off… it’s not the girl either, it’s the type of girl and how the public perceives her.

guilty by association.

David Cook, you are a breath of fresh air. After your career skyrockets, move back home (or at least have a home base there). Please don’t let the Hollywood thing warp you (see John Mayer). I fear that some day they’ll have you telling us which light bulbs to buy and who to vote for… bleh. Stay a midwestern humble guy, I’m begging you.

he looks tired…
poor david. go take a nap :)
questions were great. other mags/shows should let the fans ask questions

Seems like a talented guy, looking forward to his career. Too bad the Idol machine got its hands on him, but hey, maybe he can whip the franchise into shape.

The Old Hippie Chick | 6/8/2008, 6:58 pm EST

David - If you were impressed with names edited into a question, I strongly suggest you check out one of your several hundred tributes in YouTube. Look up “Dare you to Move Tribute”. I didn’t make it but everyone loves that one! Love you!

Mandy | 6/7/2008, 7:41 pm EST

thank you, Rolling Stone, for selecting such interesting questions for David to answer!

maria P | 6/7/2008, 4:56 pm EST

its great to see how he really has to think about his answers with this interview since for the past weeks he has to deal with pretty much the same questions a gazillion times over. what a thought-provoking one for him to do and for us his fans greater insight into his psyche…great job, DC and thanks rolling stone..

Meg | 6/7/2008, 4:07 pm EST

Great answers to challenging questions. Your voice and musicianship are incredible. Hope you get some rest soon. Can’t wait until your album comes out.

Renee | 6/7/2008, 4:04 pm EST

David is the greatest thing that has ever happeded to American Idol. He is the REAL deal. I am proud to be an official Word Nerd! I love his music(his pre-idol stuff is outstanding and showcases his many talents, songwriting included!) Thanks for giving us this interview.

Mary | 6/7/2008, 4:02 pm EST

Smart, articulate man

astolat | 6/7/2008, 3:59 pm EST

Okay, that was a really cool interview, both in format and in content. I especially liked the last question about what he’s learned from his different steps along the way. (Okay, and his crackup over the fans who edited their video was hilarious.) Rolling Stone: great idea (committed fans always seem to have better questions) and great job choosing the questions, and bravo to all the questioners featured for coming up with interesting ones.

Mary | 6/7/2008, 3:44 pm EST

to teddy…….
just keep watching..

Jenna | 6/7/2008, 3:24 pm EST

My lord, he is just too awesome for words! Loved his (first) answer to the “What would you do if you had one hour left” question! Too funny.

Ellen | 6/7/2008, 3:10 pm EST

David is the real deal. Beautiful inside and out. I used to think Bo Bice had the best voice ever, but David has moved Bo down to #2!

tracy | 6/7/2008, 3:00 pm EST

Oh David, you are so sweet! Thank you for sharing. I’m sorry that you have to expose so much of yourself now - I know I couldn’t do it. Congratulations on your win - you totally deserve it. I look forward to your music and more to come (ie,acting). Thanks again! Diane

Diane | 6/6/2008, 10:14 pm EST
