MTV Movie Awards Reunites Wayne and Garth, Features First TV Performance of New Coldplay Single

6/2/08, 10:45 am EST

The MTV Movie Awards broadcast last night live from Los Angeles. It’s hard to take seriously an awards show that honors Transformers as Best Movie, hands Adam Sandler a lifetime achievement award and has categories like Best Summer Movie So Far, but the show still had some highlights, including Coldplay’s debut TV performance of new single “Viva La Vida” (hit the jump for video), lots of Robert Downey Jr., the incredibly awkward moment where Diddy, Lindsay Lohan and Verne Troyer had to present an award together and, most notably, former RS cover boys Mike Myers and Dana Carvey reuniting for a “Wayne’s World” segment for the first time in 14 years (watch the video above.) Other than that, it was a night of self-promotion and eye-rolling results, as everyone knows Alien vs. Predator: Requiem should have beaten Never Back Down in the Best Fight category.

Satan is alive and well and working the switches at Rock and Roll Daily.

Have a lovely day.

Coldplay are amazingly tedious to listen to live. I can stand some of their studio cuts, but live there is absolutely NO substance to them.

And yeah the MTV video awards are a joke. Its all teeny-bop marketing. Just goes to show how far Coldplay have to stoop to get on national TV.

Would love to see an awards show grow some balls and put Black Rebel Motorcycle Club or something that is gonna get people talking on the air.

America, you could REALLY use a new Ed Sullivan right now. Uh, Ryan Secrest maybe? Lol…

how shocking.

stupid Red Head | 6/3/2008, 3:37 pm EST

,,,,,after speaking your mind, you informed someone to leave the country for speaking theirs,,,,,can’t have it both ways Red. Your fake patriotic moral high ground is sickening. Genius.

red-haired goddess | 6/3/2008, 1:26 pm EST

Yes, you’re right. Part of being an American is having the right to speak your mind.

I think that’s what I was doing, genius.

stupid Red Head | 6/3/2008, 12:45 pm EST

once again you put your foot in your mouth. Part of being an American is being able to speak your mind and having the ability to make a change where you see a need. Yes, people come here all the time. No, this is not Utopia. If you are happy with the way things are, then fine. If someone else has a different viewpoint, who are you to stand in their way, or tell them to leave. THAT is probably THE MOST un-American thing one can say.

“Amerwrecka”?

I’ll bet this person patted themselves on the back several thousand times thinking this is clever.

Despite all its detractors, AMERICA is still the best on Earth.

People all over the world want to come here to live and I don’t blame them.

If you think AMERICA is such a horrible place, why don’t you give up your citizenship to someone more deserving: a person from another country who would love to live here.

great to see Wayne’s World back, except for the vomit inducing shot of Paris Hilton in the crowd

Anonymous | 6/2/2008, 3:31 pm EST

I find it scary that during crowd inserts I had no idea who half of those chicks were.

bowieno | 6/2/2008, 3:20 pm EST

This shows the worse of cultural or lack off cultural aspects that Amerwrecka has to offer. and Amerwrecka is nothing more than cheap tits and beer commercial when it comes to culture. Adam Sandler has as much cultural contribution as a virus’ diarrhea. awful, awful, tasteless movies. You have Pay me BIG Bucks to subject myself to most of that crap MTV hocks!

coyler | 6/2/2008, 2:00 pm EST

from 1981-1994 the targeted audience for MTV was 18-34, from 1995-2002 the targeted audience was 10-22, from 2002-present the targeted audience is 10-18 with no intentions of furthering education past middle school.
