Trey Anastasio Hints at Phish Reunion

5/28/08, 8:03 am EST

Nearly four years after their break-up, the four members of Phish may have some unfinished business together. In an interview with Rolling Stone last week, Trey Anastasio didn’t exactly say the band has talked about a reunion, but he did drop some heavy hints. “When Phish broke up, I made some comment about how I’m not gonna go around playing ‘You Enjoy Myself’ for the rest of my life,” Anastasio said with a laugh. “And it’s so funny because Fish and Mike and Page have been talking to each other a lot lately and now — it’s not that I can’t believe that I said that, but its symbolic of how much I lost my mind or how much I lost my bearings or something. Because at this point in time I would give my left nut to play that song five times in a row every day until I die. I certainly thought about that while I was in jail.”

Anastasio spoke to RS on May 21st, the same day he received some good news: He was sentenced to probation on charges of possessing painkillers without a prescription, which had been reduced to a misdemeanor after he completed a drug treatment program. Earlier in May, Anastasio and the other members of Phish stood onstage together in New York to accept a lifetime achievement award at the Jammies.

If I hear one phan complain about the frequency of ANY song played, I will personnally see to it they are blacklisted from tour. Ok, I’m joking, but still want to post my distain for such behavior.

It would be cool to see phish again, when I went to my first phish concert I was 15, and I am 34 now.

Wow strange comments here, feel really old, I miss those special moments when I and they were one, and they were them, and I was not.
Or we were neither, and I wasn’t sure, if I was not………aaaaahhhhhh Halloween 95

I have a feeling though, that I will be into the concert and into the car, the parking lot will be like the fading scenes in the Dead lot, remember dear creak I think in 93………thousands of people with no real interest other than a selfish desire to get as drugged out at possible, and a pathetic need to try and fit into the “scene”

I never understood why so many lazy idiots would follow around musicains that work so hard………but they were sure fun to watch………….the idiots…………and the band of course

Sorry for being so negative, it must be that damn tent of the drool……….and those wazor beams firing at my head

please....... | 10/1/2008, 5:54 am EST

If they ever come back it will be the biggest, jerjoff cop-out the world has ever seen. All the wanna-be hippie kids that go see ‘em would forever be idiots in my book. Of course that’s just my opinion…..I guess they miss the money.

brendan | 9/22/2008, 1:58 am EST

hurry up and wait kids it aint happening any time soon. we all got suckered into them once already. dont let it happen again… but when it does, i’ll see you peeing on the fence!

merryprankster1963 | 9/17/2008, 2:55 pm EST

Awesome!!! Ever since I heard their album Slip, Stitch, & Pass, I wanted to go see Phish. I was royally bummed when I heard that Trey was in jail, and fighting the horse (which is always a losing battle). Hopefully with Les Claypool’s help (of Primus), they can get their heads straight again. I know it takes a lot out of a human to feed the masses, but that’s why we worship our idols though. Please don’t let us down, Trey.

PHAN7733 | 9/13/2008, 4:50 pm EST

They are definitly going to need some live warm ups. I predict a shorter than normal tour capped off by a festy. I would really rather not ever go to Coventry again. The funeral aside that place was a giant mud pit. Having to leave all my stuff and walk five miles absolutely sucked( though I would do it again w/out question). I want to go where I saw my first show. The wonderful Loring airforce base.

The Wharf Rat | 9/10/2008, 10:33 am EST

IT—–GHOST——-word! I have seen 1st hand a younger generation of kids (friends younger sisters and bros) who are extremely into music. Phish, Dead, STS9 etc…and just the music….Phish stopped touring at a critical point in their musical development…which is cool. You gotta do what you gotta do, right? So anyway, long story short, it will be nice for them to experience a show first hand, rather than from livephish.com……..knowatime an? Good luck Phish with whatever you decide!

Collin | 9/3/2008, 9:37 pm EST

hey phish is fucking ill and they would draw 100 thousand plus fans from all over. if they do come back they will do it a festival in coventry and im only 3 hours from the air its time to bring the dmt down to the field and start vaporizing that shit while my visions are controlled by the heavenly flow of the god like power known as phish.

Eric Koval | 9/2/2008, 10:22 pm EST

They reflect just one of the many amazing bright periods of music harvested here in Burlington on a night to night basis. Have loved and will always love what Phish contributed to the all of us. Funny, but been thinking that the official announcement would be best placed here on Main street in Burlington….WBKM.org: a station showcasing the beautiful music created here in the Green Mountain State. Peace and love to all you music lovers…something truly magical happens when music is shared…and Ohhhh Phish can indeed get us there again!….its the emergence of a movement…and all of us have an important hand to play…shared experience in connecting people thru tunage….gonna be real refreshing to hear Trey unbound~!!!! Congrads my friend!!!

i was just talkin with my friend Shelli about this reunion. we hope they do a festy first and then tour so that all the people who just go to party , get it out of their system and then tour can be for the heads who want to experience a religious happening. it ain’t the ecstasy, the acid or the weed that makes the scene bad, it’s the coke and pharmies and yes i am goin to say it the alcohol. all these things can exist at a show, but an old head told me everything in moderation. and if you are goin to do gas, sit the fuck down, i’m tired of seein bloody idiots wastin their money. buy a bag of uggets and chill out!

socalphan | 7/29/2008, 2:22 pm EST

Phish at the Hollywood Bowl !!! How long do ya think it would take a 3 night stint to sell out.
Oh about 15 mins. It would be a great way to start things off. I hope they read this, it would be a new classic.

Strainephotography | 7/28/2008, 10:39 am EST

I am just hoping that they get back together and have fun. It would be great to hear them put out a new album that defines a new creative era in their music.

I never cared much about all the bullshit in the parking lots. There is bullshit around you each and everyday no matter if you are in a concert parking lot, small town or a big city.

Phish is a great band. They always were and I think if they get back together it will be cool to check it out and see what happens.

Although, I sometimes envision them as a bunch of old geazers trying to crank out one more Chalkdust and it just being pathetic. Time will tell…

reformed hippy | 7/9/2008, 7:28 pm EST

hey everyone…phish is one of the GREATEST LIVE BANDS OF ALL TIME…on the downside to that…they have some of the most brain-washed zombie druggie fans on the planet…hey…stuff that vegan burrito up your unwiped butthole and stop selling heroin, coke,X,and opium in front of your 2 year old baby that is wearing a hemp necklace and wearing homemade pants…yup…we all remember those scumbags from tour that were part of “the scene”…grow the fuck up and give your baby a bottle of juice instead of a fuckin whippet balloon and enjoy the music sober for once…you might find that it makes more sense…assholes..see you on tour!! hopefully your not trying to sell me beat acid and dirty falafels…im just there for the music…lets hope they don’t fuck up on Sloth this time around…

Reading some of these posts is starting to make me feel old.

I remember driving up to Burlington from Mass. in 1987 and first saw Phish at Nectars and Hunt’s. Those were some amazing times and never looked back.

I can now relate to the older Deadheads when I first saw Jerry and the boys in the mid 80s

divi/dirt | 7/7/2008, 1:54 pm EST

so. i’m sitting here listening to my 10 week old child gurgling and laughing at his mobile, which unfortunately is not playing a phish tune…

phish has always been about the music for me and my crew. i spent my first phish show sober, and it changed my life. it drives me crazy when so many people critique the shows and expect some form of perfection from the band. really, who are you to judge, anyway? seems a little snobbish…last i checked, super musicians though they all are, they are still human. i agree that we should all be grateful for ANY show we ever attended. i never got a full tour due to working full time AND going to school (which i paid for, thank you very much!), so perhaps i’m better able to have that perspective.

in light of page’s recent letter on phish.com, i think we can all count on a reunion. i look forward to going for a week’s worth of shows and travels with my husband and child, in a caravan with all the old crew and their little babies, too.

ain’t nothin’ like a phish show…see ya there!!!

My husband and I have been seeing Phish since 1994, and long before that, we were seeing the Dead. As a result of being part of these great musical adventures, both of us grew into the people we are today. It has been four long years since all of us stood on the hill in Vermont, saying our farewells to a band who changed our lives for the better. And despite all the pointless complaints that some people voice and the negativity that some dwell on, seeing Phish on even an off night is far more valuable than never seeing them again. I bet that most of you who are sending out the bad vibes, and complaining about all the “horrible” aspects of Phish tour will be among the first in line for your ticket, so you can claim your bragging rights for being in the crowd at the “Phish Reunion.” It’s a shame that for some of you, in all of this, the music has somehow gotten lost. I hope the rumors of a reunion are true, and while we will probably never be able to afford a tour again, we look forward to the day when we can sit back with phriends, at Alpine Valley or Deer Creek perhaps, and listen to that beautiful music weaving through the air!

oldhead | 6/25/2008, 10:47 pm EST

I’ve been doing Phish, Dead, Phil, and Bobby shows since 91. I predicted Phish would be back in five years, and I bet this spring 09 rumor is the most likely to be true, probably with more limited shows than in the past.

I’d like to correct a few comments made on this blog about the Phish/ Dead contraversy, that to me is just plain ridiculous.

1) The Phish crowds did not get worse when Jerry died. I was there. It was a couple years later when people, including Trey, started doing all the WRONG drugs.Instead of creating higher conciousness- they were becoming numb (pharmies, ex, Ket) or becoming tweekers. Yuck.

2. Would people stop being Treyhaters? So you had to get a job, get married, finish college, go to other concerts. The man had a right to do whatever he wanted, and honestly, I think guys just hate him because every girl in the audience wants him.

3. Who cares if you have dreddies or not? This does not make you more “authentic” than anyone else. Sure, they’re cool, but they don’t prove anything. This is very judgemental thinking for those people who claim to be so “open-minded” Many of the older heads never had dreddies and have seen way more shows than you. So be proud of your great hair, but don’t put down those of us who have infiltrated the working world and are creating change in places like classrooms without them. I taught my middle school students Gamehenge and we created murals of the story, so.. don’t be so quick to think that hair makes you more of a phan.
4. Keep out the tanks and let’s reunite (Peacefully and loving Trey; who hasn’t had rough patches in life?)!!!!

P.S. Keep out the tanks ;) Can Owsley family come back too?

Well put Uncle Austin. Dance! But your odds are wrong. The chance of anyone comparing to Phish is like one in infinite. Not that I am immortalizing them as gods, but musically, there wouldnt, couldnt, and wont ever be an equal.

bp420 | 6/15/2008, 12:37 am EST

I loved this band. They were not nearly as tight toward the end as they were in the heyday of the mid and late 90s, but that is expected since they were so engrossed in what they were doing tp the point of having n oother life.

That was then and I’ve grown up and had kids, etc. just like most of these four guys have done. However, at the end of the day I would gladly support the band as they try to recapture that energy and drive that made for some really incredible live music. I am different, older and wiser I suppose. And so are they I would hope.

If they do come back, I know that many of us diehard fans that supported them for so many years expect great things because the Phish guts have raised the bar so high that it’s tough to just get togtether and make it happen overnight.

However, I do believe that they can come close if they want to. That’s all I ask. If they do come back, they need to realize that we are used to a certain level. That’s what I stand in line, pay my money and deal with all the hassles of checking out a few shows–that’s what I loved.

I hope they try and give it their all as they did before. My kids are getting older so are thiers. Maybe it’s time to get back out there and do what they could do like no other live band I’ve seen. I’m game for that. If that’s the case, I hope their their return would be a wonderful thing. No lackluster return from the hiatus, but a definite throwback to what made this band a force to be reckoned with on stage. Now that would be special! I’m hoping that if they do it, they do it right for us, the fans who supported them and loved to see them play. That’s their obligation–or at least that’s how this jaded oldbie sees it!

Uncle Austin | 6/14/2008, 7:07 am EST

Yup, everyone has a little bit to say because Phish produced what I believe to be the best times of my (our) lives. No matter how much fun I had, not matter what it was, no matter where it was, nothing beat that second set dance session. Nothing. We have all grown up and are doing our own thing. I’m in business for myself and most of my clients would never know or could even comprehend “the good old days” as I still see them. No matter what I accomplish in life, my business partner and I still cannot wait to close shop and go to that “first show back”. We talk about it every day. I missed my first cousins wedding for coventry. My friends walked 14 miles (without wet wipes) I may add, into the show. What would Wilson do? Dance! The moral of the story is that whatever we all are doing at this point in our lives, we are all bitching up a storm for an reason, a dream, a hope, and another chapter of the best times of our lives. Not to re live the past, grill cheese sandwitches and all. Though they were good… Sort of.. But becuase Page, Mike, P dizl, and Trey, we are Phish nerds for life and just want to dance to the best and most talented group ever, EVER, put together. You know that right? EVER. That should say it all!!!! Todays music is not the same. Thats all I need to say. I love love love the Jonas Brothers, but the don’t eat cheezecake or pussy. What would Wilson do? Exactly my point. He’d fucking dance bitches!!! Bono and Sanjaya aint got shit on that. What will it take for you all to realize that a come back is a must. We all respect whatever happend but come on, WE LOVE YOU! Phish is a one in one billion odds that such a band could ever happen. All that I (we) ask is you realize that. As my Grandma said “dont be dumb” Kisses

Hey, the reason for the “phuktrey” thing is because I lived and breathed Phish and I was sooo bummed when they broke up..then only to find out that Trey got busted in NY, when supposedly he was gettin his act together…WTF..it’s like I admire his talent so much that the thought of possibly losing him to drugs, like Jerry, would be too much. Trey,Mike,Fish and Page have such awsome chemistry together that they are definitely the KINGS of Jam and I hope so much that they will be back “TOGETHER”. PRAYING 4 09'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | 6/6/2008, 3:18 pm EST

Look, I have had this itch and feeling that something big might be happening with the phab phour for about three months now, and I have been checking on it religously. Whoa to my surprise all the hub bub and hootanany in the past week. I also have been reading all these little blogs, with people bitching and moaning about this and that, and do it dont do it, my band is better than yours, blah blah blah. So I thought I’d finally put my two cents in. Heres where I stand :

-Fisrt off congrats to the boys on the lifetime achievement award, well deserved.
-Secondly no ones band is better than anybody elses. Thats why we all have options.

Now although I do love SCI, PG, STS9, BISCO’s, etc. I have seen all these bands 10-20 times, and seeing PHISH about 30 or more, they are each different in thier own right.

PHISH is in my opinion is by far THE GREATEST BAND EVER ASSEMBLED (that SHOULD go with out saying, but as I said to each there own).

That being said I personally hope the boys get things rolling again. Although, I am not eager to see them tommorow with a chance of a Coventry type performance. Let the boys take their time, lets all stop giving them shit on these stupid blogs. Allow them time to live their lives a bit, possibly record some new tunes, get Dionysian get their shit together, and allow us phans a little time to prepare.

Let us also hope that things are as they were musically in years such as 97/98’ where they were allowing themselves to grow musically (funky I might add). With a scene of lets say 03’ (shortly after hiatus 1) where you could still get down in a lot without it being overbearing. If you needed a ticket you could get one for face value or less.

Just putting my two cents in!!!!!

P.S. I will not go on record as saying WSP sucks, cause I’m sure they’re great musicians and everything, but uh………THEY BLOW DONKEY FARTS.
(But thats just MY opinion, so don’t bother commenting back on how hipocritical I am, becasue frankly if you do you like WSP, and although I’m sure your a great person and all, but really, those guys are GD wannabees.

Merry Phishmas To All, and To All A Hoodnight!!!!!

phuktrey | 6/5/2008, 2:48 pm EST

On one hand I thank Phish for breaking up cause I was forced to seek out other bands but it got out of control! I spiraled into a jam frenzy cause there is awsome talent going on! I have been lovin MOE.,WSP,and SCI (saw their last show at RR’s)Phil & Friends, Rat Dog etc.,so now I’m in serious freakin debt!

yem12 | 6/5/2008, 1:25 pm EST

first of all a reunion wouldnt be lame trey has a lot more music that he has written with om i hink he undestands what he did wrong by quiting phish. now he knows that he shouldn’ have been greedy and left. so if they did do a reunion it will be sick because they haven’t played in a while trey will be siked to play with hi band again If it happens im going

It was so much fun, how can you not say yes to it again. If they hadn’t taken as much time off as they had I probably wouldn’t have finished college. But everything’s been a head ache since then, other then the fact that I have a newfound appreciation for soberness. In the mean time I have discovered a lot of other great local jam bands. I would Love to see Phish get back together, And I would also like to see the entire Jam community keep evolving. I guess what Im saying is, that its all been good. So, Im sure they will get back together because that would really be the best. I think Rockit…man | 6/3/2008, 4:48 pm EST said it best.

Free Speech | 6/4/2008, 10:48 am EST

I remember vividly the summer that Phish and the G-Dead criss-crossed the country. Grateful Dead fans panhandled or peddled their way onto the Phish parking lots, and Phish fans consumed their way onto the Dead lots. It was horrible. Many friends called me and asked why I liked Phish when I was a longtime Deadhead with 200 shows under my belt. My answer was always that Phish had something special and different, and there should not be any comparison. I would say why do you like the Kinks AND the Who? Because both bands were important and vibrant and great. In reality, and many people will acknowledge this, both scenes suffered greatly. In truth both scenes had their positives and negatives, but were more vibrant prior to the “merge of cultures.” Equally poignant is the critical fact that there will always be negative viewpoints and irrationally blissful viewpoints, but let’s live and let live. Without criticism and high expectations artists can rest on their laurels and become very mediocre. Why should a fan e any different than a famous rock critic in print? Don’t diss the critical fans. Instead consider all of the viewpoints and then make your own opinion. And I do agree, if Phish returned (and I realize the past is the past) to what they do best, they would concentrate on playing orchestral music with periods of improvisation (like ZAPPA) and would be much better for it. But barring that I would like to see Trey keep his own band up and running and see the other guys create new realities to innovate and break new ground with their own projects, and perhaps mount a tour reminiscent of the H.O.R.D.E or the Further Festival.

i’ve been a phish fan since 1990, which is probably longer than many of you have even been alive. they DID decline in the late 90’s (with periods of greatness thrown in) and most of the decline started when the deadheads started jumping on phish tour. the “scene” became solely a drug scene. phish was being pressed to make a radio hit (which is not meant to be.) what many of you also tend to forget, is that phish were always more like frank zappa than the greatful dead. for one, they are all competent musicians (phil lesh not included.) i would like to see them return to the “reba”’s and “split open and melt”’s of their past, and not try to please these awful trustafarians and their narrow-minded views of what “jamming” should be like. in fact, most deadheads i’ve known (and unlike some of you, i actually went on tour with the dead too) are just as pigheaded and judgmental as people who watch american idol. trey, if you are reading this, please return to the instrumental flair for the early to mid 90’s, or don’t even bother with phish at all.

yeah…like the 4 or 5 disc Big cypress dvd in Hd and 5.1 dolby digital surround.
Seems like they are on a snails pace over there at livephish. I guess when i’m 80 years old and it comes out i won’t be too old to still care. If they did one releease every two months it would be sweet!

About the sobriety issue, can phish make the music we have come to know and love being sober? I mean the whole point of phish for me was this music that could transport you to that other realm. Trey once made the comment, “rock music is the servant of the drug culture” shortly after the band broke up in 2004. Can you really be clean and sober and continue to be a “servant of the drug culture?” I hope so, but it would mean that everything about phish would have to change, including the attitudes of their fans.

Mud Shark | 6/3/2008, 4:10 pm EST

Coventry was atrocious. Mud Sharks everywhere. Was backstage and I can tell you everyone who was a scenester back there was there for only one reason - not to celebrate, but rather to attend a long overdue funeral. Let Phish not rock any longer. Release DVDs and start new bands. Btw, check out the hottest new band out there: the Foxboro Hot Tubs.

Kobe | 6/3/2008, 3:47 pm EST

Why doesn’t phish come out with some new DVD’s? There is plenty of material out there? It is good to get news of Trey playing again. Go watch guyute in tokyo by phish on youtube, wow!

Jimmy James | 6/3/2008, 3:44 pm EST

I look forward to it and to be quite honest I could give a $it less if they are sober. Being sober is not what makes for good music. Sure you may gain some clarity ,but at the risk of being able to relax and be creative in front of thousands of people who are extremely critical, I think you would have to have a few just to go out there. If Tre is playing You Enjoy Myself five times a day, I want to be there to share in the moment because they won’t be around forever.
Peace

Ludacris | 6/3/2008, 12:04 pm EST

Umm…sobriety is a shifting definition. I can assure you that no one in the band has been “clean” at all along the epic journey they took us on. The earlier days until 96-ish was shrooms and cannabis - all that was fine. It was when the heavy stuff started kicking around that it changed, for the worse. Loss of heartfeel, clarity, cohesiveness. Yeah, some of you are right - there were good jams. but like the Dead, it went from hours if intensity to minutes of intensity to moments of intensity. Does anyone remember the days when Fish had a liter of Tequila on his drumstand, and he and Trey feuded on stage. There were sparks of brilliance during those episodes. They played harder, more competitively. One thing people seem to ignore is that when the band instituted the “no criticism” rule the music flattened out. In order to be a vibrant band, personality, conflict and resolution are critical ingredients.

HuberGloizen | 6/3/2008, 1:02 am EST

Um…….I think if Trey is sober, Trey might be able to play his composed sections cleanly………if he gets that confidence back, I’m not sure phish won’t be better than ever. I’d much rather avoid much of the mindless, slow, sloppy, material phish fed us in ‘99……there were good moments, for sure, and in ‘00, and in ‘03 and ‘04, but after the SOTG sessions, Trey’s heart just was never quite the same……..it took him until now to realize what he had…….it took sobriety…….so look out, if they come back, it’s going to be worthwhile………….and my first show was at the fox theater in st louis, november ‘94………i’ve seen all their good and bad parts……..I’m psyched, frankly.

Bob Mysterious | 6/2/2008, 9:29 pm EST

Don’t get your hopes up. Trey has been making hints for a while. I don’t know how many times I have heard a friend of a friend tell me that he met Trey and that the reunion tour is on schedule. After seeing them in ‘04, I am not sure if I want to go back.

BTW, Trey was not sober in ‘03, at all, I promise.

Marco | 6/2/2008, 6:29 pm EST

Ludacris, the Dead played some good shows in the late 80s, when by all accounts, Jerry was sober. You get a clue. Trey was clean in summer03, according to him and that is the most consistant tour since 97. Wake up man.

not so sure about that comment ludicris… trey will tear it up sober. i need not say much more than oswego to illustrate my point. drugged out phish does not, in any way, mean better music. i think we will see some pretty incredible stuff from trey in the near future. his creativity and musicianship will be incredible, like the show with phil and friends from the winter. as far as jerry goes, a far superior musician imho, but he did sound terrible in the early and mid nineties, at least no where near what he was capable of.
it would be great to see phish again, but my life will certainly continue without it. as long as we have Ratdog!

If Trey is not high as a kite the jams will be so low they will blow. It is so funny, all the positive posters have never seen the band when they were good, and missed out on being a real music fan - a Deadhead - that is when Jerry was alive and (high as a kite). Man up folks.

i think you got the probation thing wrong. 1st off…he’s on probation in NY and not in VT. Second, if he can’t leave the state for 3 years, then how the hell can he be scheduled to play both the Newport, RI folk festival and rothbury in Michigan???

AK47 | 5/31/2008, 4:38 pm EST

@no phun

Also, you said:
“he can’t leave VT and therefore he can’t tour”

He was sentenced through Washington County (New York) Drug Court, and has been residing in Saratoga Springs (also in New York :D )

AK47 | 5/31/2008, 4:35 pm EST

@no phun

Then how come he is booked at the Rothbury festival in July? I’m pretty sure that’s in Michigan.

It is my understanding that under most probationary terms, one must notify the probation officer when leaving the state. This doesn’t mean they won’t allow it. They might just have to fly him back every month for a pee test :D

Martin Van Buren | 5/31/2008, 4:21 pm EST

I bet you Martin Van Buren would check it out if they played a few shows together, then again, maybe not…..here’s to Time Traveling.

HIP HIP HOORAY! I knew that he must of had one of those mind meltdowns in which you think you could be dead or are thinking insane. Oh my god. I was really offended when he said he didn’t wanna play the old jamz, but I knew it was the drugs or whatever it was that made him get sand in his vagina. I love Trey for life, and thats why I named my kid Treypac. You go Trey!

Jib-Who? | 5/31/2008, 1:01 pm EST

I am not going to suggest Trey didn’t say “my left nut” etc.

Some people maybe right. It is all about the money.

All the negative posts are hilarious to me because these people will bash the band and Trey all day long, but if they went on another Tour you bet they’d have a ticket to every show. Face it, everyone who clicked on this link is already obsessed.

Personally, I’m very excited because I enjoy listening to great live shows. They have always delivered, and that’s all I really care about. F*** the politics behind BANDS. IT’S JUST MUSIC! ENJOY IT AND CALM THE HELL DOWN!

Just my 2 cents.

In regards to the posted picture, I must say i used to scrath my neck in the same manner…………

back when I was puffing rocks and sniffing dope i scrathed the same spot raw.

However, if trey is clean and righteous, phish will rage again the way they did in the late 90’s

oldhomeplace | 5/30/2008, 2:53 pm EST

F*ck it man phish has been a major part of my life for over 10 years when i first saw them and thousands of others and I appreciate nothing more than seeing them live, be it at necter’s in VT or MSG, period end of conversation. If your done with them than maybe you should stop posting comments.

oldhomeplace | 5/30/2008, 2:35 pm EST

Weak - theres nothing surprising about the fact that they wanna get paid man. You think they started playing arenas and major venues for fun? Common man your taking what trey said way out of context… tell me the rolling stones are garbage because they reunited. Phish has been “broken up” for a couple years and its not as if the barn has been empty and unused.

This is a dream come true. When we first got our tix back in Feb, we were dreaming about Trey coming and a Phish reunion. And the Universe heard!!!!
Phish are meant to play together, everyone hits a funk at some point or another. Drugs usually play a large part in that.
But stay clean TREY!
Now the music can live and evolve again, just as it is meant to.
I have a feeling Rothbury will be sold out very soon!! The hottest place to be this summer– we’re there! Hope we’ll be able to meet him, it’ll be for ELO!!!

Weak | 5/30/2008, 12:26 pm EST

Let’s discuss what a “reunion” means. A “reunion” is when a band who has formally broken up gets back together. Phish formally broke up. Therefore, if they appear in public and make some sound, we have a “reunion.” And by Trey’s definition, and mine too, “reunions” are lame, and only about one thing - boring rehash of mediocrity, and seeking M-O-N-E-Y. I wonder how many of you will line their “reunion” pockets and say every show was “the Phattest ever - the best Harry Hood they every played maaaaaannnnnnnn!”??? Grow up, move on, remember the past, don’t drag it into the future. You have to FIGHT THE POWER!

A douche? Please direct your comments to Trey. He is the one who made the comparison to the Clash, and other bands who have broken up and should have and should stay that way. I am not anti-future. One day there will be a band worthy of following carefully, like the Dead, and Phish. But there is no one today. Hmmm…would calling a poster a douche be considered off-topic? You need to read the posts more carefully, and check your facts. Sincerely, Weak (as in Phish post 1994)

oldhomeplace | 5/30/2008, 11:22 am EST

certainly would not call a potential tour next year a reunion and if you compare phish getting back together to clash your just being a douche. the post hiatis shows should never have happend but at this point the only way that they are going to tour again is if they are all on the same page. not sure if theyre all willing to give their left nut to play YEM 5 times in a row every day though so dont give your hopes up. At the same time dont be an “antifuture”.

Weak | 5/30/2008, 10:00 am EST

Just like the Democratic presidential primary contest, it would seem that Phish fans come in all shapes sizes and viewpoints. It heartens me that a percentage of them realize what is done is done, and to let great experiences remain buried in our memories. It will never be the same for sure, but let’s remember Trey’s comment: “Reunion tours are the most pathetic thing in the world and I won’t do it. Would you want to see a Clash reunion?” Guitar Player magazine October 2004. A Phish reunion would be about one thing - MONEY.

wharfrat | 5/30/2008, 9:13 am EST

Prepping now! I’ve been waiting for this for a LONG time. Go get ‘em TREY, MIKE, JON, & PAGE!

Future guy, you are an idiot. Let the younger guys get paid?? You do realize how old the Allman Brothers and Widespread Panic are, dont you?? Stick to the DMB tour and smirnoff ice.

Harry Balls | 5/29/2008, 11:27 pm EST

With the crap hes been thru…he’s probably dieing to be back on tour with phish….If I was in jail I’d be happy to just be at work in the free world let alone playing awesome music that people love.

TreysLetter | 5/29/2008, 9:52 pm EST

Trey dont worry about that stupid letter… Ya’ll have been constantly evolving since 1985. So what there was a low point?!? Don’t let us selfish fans hold you to anything. We all change thats life. Its time for a new chapter of the phish legacy. So get those guys in the barn and start practicing. You have big shoes to fill.. Your Own:) Have fun and hope you are doing great. We miss ya’ll dearly.

Good to hear that Trey is clean. Heroin can really mess you up, just ask me I used to be addicted to it too. BTW, I can dunk from the free throw line.

DestinyUnbound | 5/29/2008, 8:49 am EST

My dream is a Phish tour without lot rats and smack heads. A group of friendly travelers who enjoy a good toke and some good brew but turn on those of you who polluted our scene with your harsh drugs, fights, and “middle-of-the-lot-smack-induc ed-dramaâ€, N20, and all of the other things that bring negativity to such a beautiful thing. The scene fostered Trey’s addiction and is partly to blame for the band’s demise. I will say it now: Stay out of my scene with your harsh drugs and drama. The lot is not a homeless shelter, rehab facility, or forum for drama. It is a traveling city with enormous potential. I am sick and tired of the music taking a back seat to the dysfunctional lives of those who can nothing else, so they call themselves hippies and go on tour. If you love the music and the people, join us. If not stay home (or wherever).

Hard to determine if this is good news or who cares(?) news. The last rounds of Phish shows lacked the edge and the revelations of the mid 90’s era tours. Still, they are damn good and it could be fun…

so many of these peope are living in the past. Nothing is ever as good as it was. I dont care if its not like the 90’s phish. Its phish. I enjoy their music so much. Just think of the music, and not all the BS.Trey and his problems. Whatever. I love phish and their music I cant wait for them to come back. Ive been waiting since coventry.
and for real….keep politics out if this discussion its got NOTHING to do with phish. Im a republican btw

FutureGuy | 5/29/2008, 3:11 pm EST

Don’t really understand what all the hype is. Phish had their time and they know that. Let some of these smaller, more promising, up-and-coming acts like Umphreys, U Melt, STS9, Bisco, Perpetual Groove, YMSB, Big Wu, Widespread Panic, The Allman Brothers, Lake Trout and Green Lemon take over the scene. Phish should become producers, managers, or a sort of mentor for these young, lost jambands. Phish had their time, 92-99, and so did all of you. Now everyone grow up and let these younger acts get paid.

FeelinCheezy | 5/29/2008, 3:09 pm EST

MORONS | 5/29/2008, 2:51 pm EST

All you people bitching about them coming back are idiots. These guys are smart. They will be successful if they decide to do it right. Not like ‘03-’04. Most of you will be dropping all the cash you can just to say you were at the first show back. I have been seeing them since early ’90’s and if they come back I will be all over it. The music scene is terrible right now, how could you not want them back? Oh yeah, thats right, no one cares about the music anymore, its all about the SCENE!! Look at STS9, those kids are a joke. I cannot wait to rage MSG, HAMPTON, and the GORGE once again. Rock on all you whiny bitches!

I like too still listen to Phish’s Music. The band has changed. I started going to Phish shows in 95 and I find that if the band is having fun on stage its still going to be fun to be in the crowed and listen.
So I say I would be happy to see what they play if they start playing again. I hope that people remember that it was the music that was cool. If you can put the music before the drugs and the lot scene then it will be cool. I don’t care about anything except I feel good when Phish is on stage playing there music and that why we are all there.

what I find truly fascinating about this is Trey’s prior knowledge of the effects of his comments, plainly contrasted (by him!) to the comments he once made to the opposite effect. no way a Jedi Knight like Trey doesn’t know what the reaction in the phan community to a statement like this will be. no one that good at music is that dense/un-aware, nor are they that cruel - I think this can be taken just as we’re taking it. Hope it is true my boys where to young the last time i seen them at Alpine now at 16 and 13 it will be a good time for them to see the one of the best Jam band I have seen!
Would be a grate open tune cover.

On the road again
Just can’t wait to get on the road again
The life I love is makin’ music with my friends
And I can’t wait to get on the road again
On the road again
Goin’ places that I’ve never been
Seein’ things that I may never see again,
And I can’t wait to get on the road again.

On the road again
Like a band of gypsies we go down the highway
We’re the best of friends
Insisting that the world be turnin’ our way
And our way
Is on the road again
Just can’t wait to get on the road again
The life I love is makin’ music with my friends
And I can’t wait to get on the road again

On the road again
Like a band of gypsies we go down the highway
We’re the best of friends
Insisting that the world be turnin’ our way

Is on the road again

Just can’t wait to get on the road again
The life I love is makin’ music with my friends
And I can’t wait to get on the road again

Not Getting Hopes Up | 5/28/2008, 10:13 pm EST

I saw Phish on their last tour and they were horrible. I have high hopes for a strong comeback. In order to do so Trey needs to get the needle out of his arm and focus on their early catalog and not the last few garbage albums they made. Not to mention ticket prices will go way up for these guys. Won’t be the same regardless.

They sucked after the last hiatus. What makes you think that when they go back it won’t suck again. Trey is just a washed up junkie. When I was 20 years old in 1992 Phish was amazing but by the time I was 32 they were just wishy-washy.

good job? | 5/28/2008, 5:23 pm EST

good to hear that some of you have “good jobs” now…but you’ll need a second job just for gas. and besides, working the slushie machine at 7-11 isn’t what most people consider a “good job”. Still keep on rubbing it in people’s faces!

three years probation puts the date of the first show sometime in 2011…that at least leaves us a few good months of over priced shows before the world ends in 2012.

d.paul | 5/28/2008, 4:37 pm EST

already stopped showering!!!!

Brother Monk | 5/28/2008, 4:35 pm EST

If the band is serious, and they intend to play with some heart (and balls) again, I would be straight back on the bus. Unfortunately the last time I saw any spark was Summer 2003. Most of 2004 was utter shite. I will NOT put up with a ridiculous bunch of phoned-in crap.

It’s obvious that the four of these guys cannot individually produce music on the same level as the group can collectively. I’m sure they (I’m looking at you, Trey) miss the adulation and energy of the fans, our Family Vibe. They already have truckloads of money at their disposal, so they don’t need a tour to fill their coffers with any more filthy lucre.

I will happily suspend my current life for a couple weeks of touring each year. My obligations are minimal. I already do it for Widespread and STS9, and those two bands have done a stellar job of filling a tremendous musical void that Phish left in my life. Widespread lost their main guy and STILL had the guts to keep going, keep pushing, keep trying - what’s your excuse, Trey?

What they need to do is revisit their current catalog of tunes and rework their classic songs. Learn some new cover songs that absolutely kill. Listen to Fall 1997 and reacquaint themselves with their inner Rock Gods / Funkmeisters. Make it fun, not work.

That being said, if they break my heart ONE MORE TIME… they are dead to me!

Run away Jim | 5/28/2008, 4:34 pm EST

1strowcenter | 5/28/2008, 4:29 pm EST

Marketing….selling product since 1900!!!! Don’t you peeps realize everytime a solo project is slated for release (original boardwalk style 6/10) Trey gives one of these glimmer of hope statements to SELL RECORDS!!! I saw them 61 times and would like nothing more than for the boys to return, but if it didn’t go down at the Jammys (a situation were they could play and write it off as a one time gig if they didn’t like how it went) then the prospect of a reunion in the near future is far fetched.

Agree w/ Crowd Control. The “true fans” could see them in any mind state and equally love it each time. And this is coming from a dude who’s never seen them other than hanging outside in a Tweeter Center parking lot. I’m a die-hard to say the least, but my experience lies in their live discs and bootlegs. So to have that opportunity to see them up close and personal, I’d forfeit any substance possible, and I know it’d be incredible. Word.

Yep, this will be awesome so that all of us now professional ‘heads that saw hundreds of shows in the late 90’s and have really good jobs can go and not worry about wookies trying to hit us up for miracles. They’ll be stuck on the highway begging for nickels to fill up their crappy cars.

Yeee haa!

Crowd Control | 5/28/2008, 3:28 pm EST

I dare the entire Phish community to go see one show without a single substance. Many of us would still be there, rocking out, but the crowd would half in size! Let’s not screw up this gift again! These guys sacrifice their lives to basically live on tour for love of the music. Let’s not taint it again. And I don’t mean the “true fans” who talk about how many shows they’ve seen. I just mean the people who really really appreciate it on a deeper level.

HARRY HOOD | 5/28/2008, 12:37 pm EST

I new it was only matter of time before the boys came back. Hope they sound better than they did pre-hiatus. They were getting sluggish.

DUANEBASE | 5/28/2008, 12:36 pm EST

I really hope the four guys get back together so I can slang hetty organic turkey sandwiches on lot. I’ve been practicing since Coventry and I am SO ready.

Page M. | 5/28/2008, 12:33 pm EST

Dear God, I hope this is true.

Anonymous | 5/28/2008, 12:30 pm EST

Hopefully they’d practice YEM this time (at least 5 times). That was ugly at Hampton.

treysdealer | 5/28/2008, 12:29 pm EST

julz broke up phish when she banged lono in the mud of coventry.

sgrmag74 | 5/28/2008, 12:28 pm EST

I really hope the four guys get back together. I also hope it’s not rushed and they practice like crazy.

Congrats to Trey for his accomplishments over the past year and a half. All your fans are truly proud of you. Also, congrats to the boys for receiving a lifetime achievement award. It certainly is well deserved.

All your fans miss you and the magic that the 4 of you produced with your music. I hope you reunite someday!

tube head tom (again) | 5/28/2008, 12:26 pm EST

I imagine the YEM played with one nut would be a bit awkward for Trey since he’s used to jumping on the trampoline with two.

mcheney | 5/28/2008, 12:24 pm EST

dreams DO come true!!!! bring on the phish!!!!

J-ROCK | 5/28/2008, 12:23 pm EST

interesting…if they do come back I wonder how good they will sound. They need a lot of practice if it going to sound as good as it did pre Big Cypress. The last thing I want is for them to return and sound like shit.

Mr. Green | 5/28/2008, 12:12 pm EST

LOL at the “PaulGlace” comment. That is gold!

phishyphishy | 5/28/2008, 12:09 pm EST

Yup! | 5/28/2008, 12:09 pm EST

…and then Mr.Deez sees that the stench was actually coming from Panic themselves and Phish fans rejoice to be rid of it!!

treyislame | 5/28/2008, 11:19 am EST

Phish was a great band, back in the mid to late 90’s. They need to really work to get their fanbase back. Their last few albums were horrible and their shows sufferred as a result of Trey’s crappy pop songs and drugged out (meaning heroin, etc), egotistical nature. He ruined that band. Page, Mike, and Fishman rule, but Trey is a loser.

dudeman cometh | 5/28/2008, 11:10 am EST

::begins to grow dreads back::

HEY ROLLING STONE! | 5/28/2008, 11:08 am EST

Eric | 5/28/2008, 10:25 am EST

What, just another tour with absolutely no practice. If they come back they better play well and not just become a nostalgia act.

first show back they should open with YEM, 5 times in a row. that’ll learn em.

Malnourisheddog | 5/28/2008, 9:54 am EST

Wouldn’t playing YEM without a left testicle hurt the music?

Carson | 5/28/2008, 9:49 am EST

i can’t say i would give my left nut to hear you enjoy myself five times a day for the rest of my life, but good lord, it’s a start.

trey day | 5/28/2008, 9:48 am EST

the craziest thing he said back then was that “in through the out door” was a bad record. that is when i knew he was snorting draino.
