Looks promising. I’ll be buying that.

Great to see B.B. King on the cover…finally a true musician makes the cover.

Anonymous | 5/28/2008, 5:56 pm EST

Oh, and that moron from The Mars Volta doesn’t belong anywhere near those other guitarists.

Alex | 5/28/2008, 6:07 pm EST

Awesome to see Omar on their, the Mars Volta is so artistically beautiful and the Maestro is the reason why. I also like how the other greats are all looking straight ahead at the camera while Omar looks on and almost admires at his company.

No songs by Living Colour, or any that have Vernon Reid, and only 1 Sonic Youth song. Are you serious?

I hate Eddie Van Halen and Jimmy Page.

yes it's me | 5/28/2008, 11:19 pm EST

Ummm…who made this list? Hearing impaired hipsters? Oh wait, this is Rolling Stone magazine…it’s all about hearing impaired hipsters!

Only one AC/DC song??? Where is Mr. Rick Nielsen? Richie Blackmore? Only one Neil Young song??? Come on….

And why do we have Springsteen? Sleater Kinney? Sonic Youth? Kurt Cobain? Come the F on!!

Most importantly…and in all seriousness…why are there no songs by The Darkness on here???

Anonymous | 5/28/2008, 11:29 pm EST

Omar is awesome but hes totally outclassed by those other guys

Anonymous | 5/28/2008, 11:38 pm EST

Finally Omar Rodriguez is getting the recognition he deserves. Making 8 records a year of beautiful guitar playing… A lot of people don’t now him but definatly check out The Mars Volta.

Andrew the English bloke | 5/29/2008, 5:15 am EST

Omar who? CLEARLY this was a piss-take by RS – this is Irony at its best.

And yes, I agree – why is there no mention of The Darkness?

Swingline | 5/29/2008, 8:57 am EST

Big disappointment for the lack of Jane’s Addiction, Living Colour, Pantera, Satriani, Rush and others and the inclusion of Nirvana, Weezer and the Smashing Pumpkins, moreover their radio songs. I’d ask if some of your writers have been replaced by lesser talents, no need to pull out a decoder ring for the answer.

One of the biggest WTF’s is “Funk No. 49″ by the James Gang. You people just had Joe Walsh on your recent cover, didn’t that make you wanna reconsider Sublime even a bit?

Anonymous | 5/29/2008, 9:10 am EST

“Oh, and that moron(ok,why moron?) from The Mars Volta doesn’t belong anywhere near those other guitarists.”

ooh he doesnt

i like his style and music but he cant be there
.
its just odd

Anonymous | 5/29/2008, 10:26 am EST

No “Alive” by Pearl Jam? Seriously? THE most inconic opening guitar riff of the 90’s (yes, even above Smells Like Teen Spirit…SUCK IT!) and it gets no love? Have you ever seen this performed live?

And no “Smoke on the Water”?? Hold on…maybe my eyes aren’t working right. Nope, still not there. Are you KIDDING me?!

bryan burchfield | 5/29/2008, 10:54 am EST

The greatest is Jimi Hendrix’s “The Star Spangle Banner.” Till this day,you can still stop traffic with it. The most overated is “Smoke on the water”.

Sanchez | 5/29/2008, 11:38 am EST

Is that Eagle Eye Cherry?

Sanchez | 5/29/2008, 11:38 am EST

Is that Eagle Eye Cherry?

Mia | 5/29/2008, 1:33 pm EST

Great to see Omar there.

Shelley | 5/29/2008, 2:18 pm EST

What about Heart’s “Barracuda?”

ryan | 5/29/2008, 3:17 pm EST

I like Omar’s work a lot and it’s good to see him get credit but…at the same time it is a bit unusual to have him up there with the likes of King and Van Halen.

Anonymous | 5/29/2008, 9:26 pm EST

If you take 30 years off the elders on the cover, they would be the equivalent to Omar.

In actuality he really doesn’t need to be on this cover to prove his worthiness because to his fans he is already a legend.

anonymous | 5/29/2008, 10:01 pm EST

I’d like to see those other guitarists lead an 8 man band. Omar Rodriguez Lopez is a genius.

guitar riff | 5/29/2008, 11:05 pm EST

any riff by dave navarro when he was with janes addiction and later the chili peppers. Yeah i said it. DOn’t knock the ONe HOt Minute album. I like fruscinate but this is the last great peppers album. BLSM and Californication or good but song for song OHM is the better album of the three. ANd listen to the first two jane’s addiction albums to see how revolutionary dave was back then and will continue to be when the new janes album comes out.

break | 5/29/2008, 11:06 pm EST

omar a guitar god? give me a break!

Anonymous | 5/30/2008, 10:53 pm EST

Look how far down the list you have to go to get to a Van Halen song. That alone shows how completely out of touch Rolling Stone magazine is.

Neutral Party | 5/31/2008, 4:17 pm EST

This is completely bogus. Are they even listening to the songs they are rating?

rodrigo | 6/2/2008, 5:02 pm EST

I know there are very good guitar players on that cover, but imo omar is far beyond them and doesn’t need a cover major magazine to achieve the right of being a legend, he already is the best musician and producer on earth. all the haterade only confirms the fact that he’s a genuis.

Annette | 6/7/2008, 8:57 pm EST

Omar is a beast of a musician, mostly because he doubles and functions as a composer. I list him as a modern composer rather than just a guitar smith. What a honor to be in with EVH, Guy, and B.B. King. The only thing this is missing is Lyndsay Buckingham.

chacho | 6/12/2008, 4:06 pm EST

OMG Omar and Jimmy Page on the same cover!!,my 2 fav guitar players and to anyone who says omar dont belong there is just cause they havent heard frances the mute,Mayer is the one who shouldnt be there … Frusciante should be in his place

matt | 7/13/2008, 7:46 pm EST

in recent years omar has become a fantastic guitarist and has always been quite an original thinker. great to see him with there.
