Velvet Revolver Reject Reality Show Plans, Prepare Announcement

5/27/08, 9:15 am EST

Even though they were seriously considering using a reality show to recruit a new lead singer, Velvet Revolver are foregoing a series and instead preparing to announce a development that will “surprise everybody” in a few weeks. “We’re coming out with something in a couple of weeks and I think it’s going to surprise everybody,” VR drummer Matt Sorum said. Several TV producers pitched the band, including Survivor architect Mark Burnett, who also produced Rock Star: Supernova. “We felt that wasn’t the right forum for us to do it, so we got some ideas and we should have that news in a couple weeks,” Sorum said. Sorum added that the band still plans on “doing something online” to recruit a new vocalist to fill in for the exiled Scott Weiland, if a new frontman hasn’t already been selected.

Axl’s the only way to go,VR are the best new rock band around but let’s face it,there ain’t alot of competition, and the best new band around cannot compare to the greatest rock band of all time which in my opinion which GNR are

a true fan | 8/28/2008, 10:18 pm EST

look, lets stop being retarded, its not going to be axl and why should it be? hes a douche bag…they need a more alternative/newer singer…like kelly shaefer or the dude from fuel…somthing along those lines would be perfect…despite what alot of people think, VR isnt just some shitty hair metal…they are the best new rock n roll band around so show some respect…they are raw and gritty unlike alot of over produced bullshit now

moe | 8/27/2008, 9:15 pm EST

Kevin Cronin of REO? Man. Is this some kind of sick sadistic cruel ass joke or something?

Assneck Jenkins | 8/14/2008, 9:37 pm EST

I’m going with Clay Aiken on this….think about it. He is so right for VR.

RoyDean | 6/16/2008, 10:39 pm EST

Maybe something new!! There is alot of buzz on the internet about a new singer, he is getting alot of comments on his YouTube and Myspace page about being the next Velvet Revolver lead singer. He is an awesome singer and deserves a serious listen to. Do a google search for Brian Phyll Miller and judge for yourself……this guy ROCKS!!!

Hurley | 6/16/2008, 6:38 pm EST

Chris Cornell of fucking course.
Would be ultimate.

lost82 | 6/6/2008, 11:51 pm EST

Chris Cornell???? Don’t make me VOMIT!!! Not a bad idea about David Cook.At least I would love to see the audition. But to say he’s the new uh, Michael Bolton? Where did that come from? Why would anyone refer to Michael Bolton on a VR post, or any post for that matter.

Nate | 6/3/2008, 5:37 pm EST

Hey, Listen up!! Axl aint comin back. Tell ya why. He will want full responsibility of the band, buy the name again, piss everyone off as usual, and we’ll be waitin again for another century for another album! Besides, he left us all in the dark, decided to perform in another country for the last 15 yrs. to people who dont even speak a word of english. My pick……….Scott Stapp.

minn$$ | 6/3/2008, 3:59 pm EST

Can only be “Rob Zombie”

Mark | 6/2/2008, 1:34 pm EST

I believe that the best fit from all the above mentioned would be Sebastion Bach. I just cannot see Kevin Cronin from REO Speedwagon playing that type of real Rock & Roll. And Sammy Hagarm, give me a break!!!

Mark | 6/2/2008, 1:34 pm EST

I believe that the best fit from all the above mentioned would be Sebastion Bach. I just cannot see Kevin Crinin from REO Speedwagon playing that type of real Rock & Roll. And Sammy Hagarm, give me a break!!!

Skawt | 5/31/2008, 5:18 pm EST

I just read a post that it’s Dee Snyder from Twisted Sister! He kicks butt on Weiland anyway. Stay Hungry Dee!

AK Tommy | 5/31/2008, 2:15 pm EST

I heard VR was seriously considering Sebastian Bach fro Skid Row. I think that would be cool! Good voice and he can rock!!

Star Carlton | 5/30/2008, 11:51 pm EST

Hmmmm lets see - I vote for:

Sammy Hagar
or
KELLY SHAEFER - he tried out for VR before and he would be good with them

Double D | 5/30/2008, 10:36 pm EST

The final shortlist, according to NME magazine in Britain, is Ed Vedder, Joe Elliott or the cool cat from REO Speedwagon. This is real folks…stay tuned!!!!!

readyrocker | 5/30/2008, 2:48 am EST

Puh-leeze…any one but AXL!
CINDY LAUPER would work betta then him!

Lil-Linz | 5/29/2008, 9:14 am EST

It should be Josh Todd, he was almost the singer anywayz!! That would be amazing although don’t think he would leave BC………..

Anonymous | 5/29/2008, 3:14 am EST

The way I see it, they don’t need to rush. Actually, the absence of Scott thankfully gives them time to pull a Santana and see where they get from there. I can imagine a frikkin’ schoolbus full of other artists who would be featured by VR.

Steve | 5/28/2008, 6:51 pm EST

It’s Blackie Lawless. I just read it in the NME.

will man | 5/28/2008, 3:45 pm EST

I hope its James Sines from AMT Allstars

Days of the New | 5/28/2008, 1:45 pm EST

They should get Travis Meeks from Days of the New, they jammed with him last time before they picked Scott Weiland. He would be awesome.

farfignewton | 5/28/2008, 12:36 pm EST

It’ll be Axl. They’ll call themselves GNR and they’ll tour behind Chinese Democracy. It’s just too big a pile of cash to walk away from.

Jeremy | 5/28/2008, 9:56 am EST

Axl
Izzy
Billy Idol
David Lee Roth
Zakk Wylde
David cook
eric dover

Andrew the English bloke | 5/28/2008, 8:02 am EST

VOTE for Rolf Harris - his ‘cover’ of Stairway to Heaven shows he has the obvious talent.

Lynne | 5/28/2008, 7:34 am EST

I am sooo grateful these guys rejected the reality show idea. Shows they’re serious and not just jockeying for attention. And there can definitely be a Velvet Revolver without Weiland - his antics are tiresome.

Dr. Emmett Brown, M.D. | 5/28/2008, 7:33 am EST

I have this De Lorean that runs on plutonium, and if I can get approximately 1.21 gigawatts of power, I’ll gladly go back to 1987 and fix this whole thing once and for all.

artwanker | 5/28/2008, 3:59 am EST

Obviously, it’s Johnny Rotten.

louie Reda | 5/28/2008, 1:44 am EST

just announced….the new lead singer for Velvet Revolver is……the dude from REO Speedwagon!! This Is Real Folks!!!

Mike&Ike | 5/27/2008, 4:29 pm EST

i think getting axl rose back would be a disater. the last stuff i heard from him was crap!! as for chris cornell?? i dunno i get tired of hearing his voice everywhere i go to be honest.

rob | 5/27/2008, 4:07 pm EST

Too bad they couldn’t get Brett Scallions, ex-Fuel and current Doors singer. He would have been perfect.
It’s time they just get GNR back together though.

morgan | 5/27/2008, 3:41 pm EST

what about the singer of circus diablo?he’s a great vocalist I can see him doing a VR set…

Sanchez | 5/27/2008, 3:14 pm EST

Ronnie James is available….Dio it up.

blitz | 5/27/2008, 2:46 pm EST

Perry Farrell and 3 parts gnr would be totally bombastic!

jungleland | 5/27/2008, 2:39 pm EST

I bet they do some sort of online talent search, maybe with Guitar Center or Rock Band

Elvis knows best... | 5/27/2008, 2:25 pm EST

Sammy Hagar is good at filling vapid voids? Maybe they could take on Michael Anthony as well?

Bo DeVis | 5/27/2008, 2:18 pm EST

I hope it’s not axl, last thing I heard from him he sounded horrible. I don’t see that happening.

torotno | 5/27/2008, 2:03 pm EST

I have it on good authority that it will be Lita Ford.

Jimbro | 5/27/2008, 1:50 pm EST

What’s Fred Durst up to these days

The Next Rev | 5/27/2008, 1:07 pm EST

Dude it’s gna b Axl. It’s gotta b! There’s no1 else left but Axl!! I’m gettn pissed cuz they won’t tell us it is! I mean they’re smart, they know the only way they will gain all the original support is going 2 b getting back with Axl!! Slash is good, but as we saw with GN’R, one person can’t keep the band afloat.

C.T. | 5/27/2008, 1:03 pm EST

it’s Joe Lestat from bang tango

Mary | 5/27/2008, 12:59 pm EST

No please not Chris Cornell !!

artficialred | 5/27/2008, 12:55 pm EST

No way Cornell joins VR. He left Audioslave because he, quote, felt he didn’t need to “rock” all the time like the other members of the band did. Sorry to say this. because I loved Soungarden and Audioslave, but I feel Cornell has lost his hard edge and only wants to be a singer-songwriter. VR better look elsewhere cause Cornell is not the answer!!!

lazerbeak1 | 5/27/2008, 12:36 pm EST

It’ll be weird seeing someone else singing VR’s stuff besides Weiland…… Man I miss the orignal GNR.

I say go, you say chris | 5/27/2008, 12:22 pm EST

How about Steve Perry? HAHAHAHA That much awesome would make the world explode HAHAHAHA

Anonymous | 5/27/2008, 12:12 pm EST

Perry Farrell

O'C77 | 5/27/2008, 12:08 pm EST

I’m free next week, and I’m pretty sure my album couldn’t be any worse than the pile of shit they passed last time. Hint to VR: make ammends with Axl, it’s your only hope!

O'C77 | 5/27/2008, 12:06 pm EST

I don’t have anything going next week, and I dont think my album would be any worse than their last pile of shit. Hint to VR: make ammends with Axl its your only hope!

alt-rokkr | 5/27/2008, 11:29 am EST

Well, David Cook is the new Michael Bolton, and that’s exactly WHY he would be perfect for the tastelessness and pointlessness that is Velvet Revolver.

CS | 5/27/2008, 11:24 am EST

If Cornell should join (which I’m seeing as unlikely), his condition should be that he takes on all song writing responsibilities while the previous VR catalog be left in the dust.

William Hung | 5/27/2008, 11:22 am EST

Me plz.
kthx

hot rod | 5/27/2008, 11:07 am EST
