Alicia Keys Talks Possible White Stripes Collaboration

5/23/08, 10:50 am EST

During a phone-in press conference yesterday to discuss her As I Am tour, Alicia Keys talked about her favorite hair style, her love of Juicy sweatpants and her desire to collaborate with the White Stripes. “They’re very raw, very cut and dry. It’s like drums and guitar,” she said. “It’s that simple, and I love that.” Keys said ever since her duet with Keith Urban at last year’s Live Earth concert, she’s been exploring other team-ups, and also listed Queens of the Stone Age, Linkin Park and Coldplay as partners she’d like to work with. But Jack and Meg top her list. “I think that combining that style with mine, which already has a raw feel to it, and my voice, I just think we could do something really interesting that mixes rock and soul together, the blues and emotion, and it could be really touching,” Keys added. As for when the possible collaboration may take place, Keys said “We’ve had some conversations. When the time works out, and it definitely will, it will happen.”

if they actually accept her into the stripes, i will devote my life to assassinating that bitch. but then jack and meg might never play again, and that would be bad.

She has absolutely ZERO soul. Leave The White Stripes alone. Let Jack produce your next record, that MIGHT help.

LASGAMES | 5/30/2008, 10:53 am EST

Jack would never go for it. Meg too.

Anonymous: what have I done?? realized that the only real rock besides jack White and the Stripes is Cobain. If i were you I’d stay anoynmous so nobody knows that you dont know anything about real Rock. keep trying though maybe 311 will release something that gets your goat……

Kenji_Fort | 5/28/2008, 11:28 pm EST

just pick Linkin Park !

Anonymous | 5/28/2008, 5:16 pm EST

Hey Arch Stanton, what have you done?

Cami | 5/28/2008, 4:28 pm EST

Please, a duet between Alicia and Mike would be awesome :D

nosnorb808 | 5/28/2008, 3:27 am EST

An Alicia Keys & Linkin Park colab would be pretty interesting. If she and Mike Shinoda mixed piano melodies together, I think they could come up with an exceptional track.

andre | 5/28/2008, 1:06 am EST

I think they would make great musics

“It’s like drums and guitar”

It’s like totally tubular, dude.

Bo DeVis | 5/27/2008, 2:21 pm EST

Beautiful.

The Intl | 5/27/2008, 2:00 am EST

I have a feeling that Alicia Keys trying to sing loud over a White Stripes music track is a lot like listening to Beyonce’s paper-thin voice trying to sing loud. Maybe she can just stick to piano.

ORM | 5/26/2008, 8:30 pm EST

Oh no! Well, the only downside I can see is that it takes valuable time from Jack’s other ventures. As for Keys, good for her, iffy for us listeners

walter | 5/26/2008, 2:20 pm EST

first shes no robert plant,,maybe jack could give her a little edge,,which she needs.she has a little too much of the mariah type vocal quirks{three notes when one would do nicely}.at least she does have some talent though.

dylan | 5/26/2008, 3:43 am EST

man, shes got a good music taste

Adam | 5/25/2008, 4:22 am EST

Slightly off topic, but jack is probably one of the most soulful guys in rock right now. Listening to the studio version of Blue Veins and that guitar solo in the bridge of “The Switch and the Spur’ is unheard of outside the realm of jack white nowadays. Looking forward to seeing the racs in New York.

Since jack white has turned his back on the type of hipster community that backstabs the artists they champion as soon as they get famous, i don’t think this is completely unfeasible. It would just be another F.U. to said community.

Personally i’d like to see this happen, and i’ve never heard an alicia keys album, but jack seems to be a a position where anything he touches becomes gold, so it would probably be worth it. Thumbs up.

arch stanton | 5/25/2008, 1:21 am EST

It would beat most of the other recent grabage Rolling Stone has been updating us on for the summer. Stone temple pilots….straight retread rip offs…..Metallica….done since Enter Sandman….Pearl Jam….never even worth crap to begin with. LONG LIVE COBAIN.

Stu | 5/24/2008, 5:58 pm EST

first of all to johnnyboy, thats just rumors your stating as fact, shutup…and to whoever said the WS would never do this, why not? Blues and soul go so well together, I think whatever they do together has the possibility to be mindblowing..

and if it doesnt work with the white stripes the black keys would be awesome for it as well, their last album showed that they’ve got a touch of soul in their work

tony | 5/24/2008, 2:54 pm EST

different world

Coulter | 5/24/2008, 1:02 am EST

I can definitely see her doing some rock stuff. Her range is so great, and voice is so powerful that it reminds me of Plant in his prime. Regardless this collab. should be interesting.

sweet | 5/23/2008, 8:29 pm EST

that would be a sweet collaboration. They should call the project WHite Keys, get it?

JD | 5/23/2008, 6:12 pm EST

Johnnyboy: Where did you hear that Meg was done? They canceled the remainder of a tour last fall due to her having anxiety problems. The White Stripes DID NOT break up.

primavera89 | 5/23/2008, 5:26 pm EST

the white stripes aren’t done, no way. they’re one of the few good rock bands out there right now

Johnnyboy | 5/23/2008, 5:03 pm EST

Alicia, you’re a beautiful and talented performer with a sensible head on your shoulders. Someone should have told you the White Stripes are done for good. I would look to the Black Keys since it’s nearly the same attibutes, yet just as good. Possibly just a Jack White collaboration would be possible, but Meg is dunzo.

Pookie | 5/23/2008, 4:34 pm EST

both great musicians, i dont see why not

Im a Joker | 5/23/2008, 3:43 pm EST

i think jack white would do it. it might be kinda cool, only one song though not an album.

Anonymous | 5/23/2008, 3:13 pm EST

I doubt they have ever spoken. No way the WS will ever do this.

judrichards | 5/23/2008, 2:36 pm EST

Not sure if the Stripes need this but it would definitely add a touch of sexy to the lineup.

Los | 5/23/2008, 11:56 am EST

This should be pretty interesting… That and a QOTSA collaboration.
