Report: Steven Tyler Checks Into Dr. Drew’s Rehab Facility

5/21/08, 3:25 pm EST

Us Magazine is reporting that Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler has checked into a rehab facility in California. The sixty-year-old singer checked into the Pasadena Recovery Center, the site where Dr. Drew Pinsky practices and was the setting for Celebrity Rehab. Tyler struggled famously with drugs during the late ’70s and early ’80s and has been clean since 1986. There was no word as to the reason what addiction Tyler might want to get over. Aerosmith are currently promoting the upcoming release of Guitar Hero: Aerosmith video game.

Screw that. Get him to the studio. Then Aerosmith can deliver the goods like they did back in the day.

alex | 5/21/2008, 5:24 pm EST

Yeah, that haven’t put out anything worth a crap since they cleaned up. Same thing happened with Alice Cooper.

German | 5/21/2008, 5:26 pm EST

jajajajajaj yeah yeah back to the studio xDDDDD

Anonymous | 5/21/2008, 5:27 pm EST

can you say ‘publicity stunt’? whatever network runs “doctor” drews little television program PAID tyler to check-in. i mean c’mon, the combination of tyler’s track record for selling out and the fact that we live in an age where TV ratings comes first in society makes it hard to believe anyone should give two sh*ts about this.

WhoMe? | 5/21/2008, 5:35 pm EST

Why are people surprisedd that Steven Tyler is headed back to rehab? It’s like doing maintenance on a used car, except his oil’s not leaking…it’s his nose! This also could be a vulnerable time for him and hitting a rehab center may be a preventative move. He hasn’t been in that setting in almost 25 years, longer than lots of his fans have been alive. We all wish him well and hope he’ll be back rocking by Summertime, or at least by mid-Summer. It’s lots better than getting strung out and losing everything again, isn’t it?

molly pines | 5/21/2008, 7:43 pm EST

I love you and I will be praying for you! I will never give up on you because your music never gives up on me. And I think you Hot!

Hanoi | 5/21/2008, 9:15 pm EST

Hurry!! Get him back to the studio, maybe they can go back to their roots!!!

No name | 5/21/2008, 10:01 pm EST

HE’S SIXTY!!!! Whoa, didn’t know that, anyway, best of luck for a quick rehab, hope you get well soon, and how bout u get into the studio and stuff?? That’d be awesome.

Anonymous | 5/22/2008, 1:47 am EST

he looked pretty wasted at the music cares awards

Cel70 | 5/22/2008, 9:12 am EST

Of course they’ve released good stuff since “the old days” People just like to complain. I mean if you can’t have a good satisfying whinge about the weather or the current music scene how can you fill those empty slots in your day?

Jeremy | 5/22/2008, 9:42 am EST

for the love of god steven stay clean and sober not just for yourself but for your fans

bayliss | 5/22/2008, 10:49 am EST

True North | 5/22/2008, 1:09 pm EST

Bebe was right.

Hanoi | 5/22/2008, 1:40 pm EST

Yea, why bother getting sober. Their albums have been crap since they cleaned up. ST is a parody of his former self, a shameless sell-out, and a bad looking tranny to boot.

alex | 5/22/2008, 2:41 pm EST

Okay, simple test, which is better?
Toys in the Attic or Angel?
Think About It or Love in an Elevator?
Draw the Line or Crazy?
Lord of the Thighs or Just Push Play?
The former ones were recorded whent they were under the influence, the latter when they were sober. Every time I hear Angel or Love in an Elevator, I cringe.

Steve Adler! | 5/22/2008, 3:09 pm EST

get him back to the studio before he sobers up!!! We need more Mama Kin!!!

steven hope you can get that monkey off your backock once again! you rock!!!!!!

thomas | 5/23/2008, 4:12 am EST

not that it matters, but I’d bet its prescription drugs.
Thats the majority of addictions these days..according to Drew himself.
Drug companies have done a “heck of a job” pushing thier dope.
When drug companies advertise on TV for drugs you can only get with a doctors prescription, that should be a red flag.

Wally | 5/23/2008, 10:28 am EST

Maybe Steven will meet up with Britany Spears in treatment and they will get married. Next headline?

You can never go home so get over it! Music advances, people age, feeling change so get over it. I wouldn’t want to live in his head or under his skin. If he actually relapsed that is bad news. If he is smart enough to clean up before a big fall great so get over it. We call this news!

smithrob26 | 5/24/2008, 3:17 pm EST

eastcoastmom you are an idiot.
“once and addict always and addict”. What a jerk.
Someone is struggling with something and that is all you can say? How about his wife cheated on him and maybe he fell back into something from years gone by from the pain and he realizes he needs the help.

I hope you don’t ever have that attitude if one of your kids ever tries something from peer pressure and gets hooked.

Steven the fans are with you brother. Get well.

Bonniwell | 5/24/2008, 3:18 pm EST

Eric Clapton, Stones, Alice Cooper (the list goes on), were all at their best when high. Aerosmith are also in that list. They still are good, they just ain’t what they used to be. Bummer. To bad moderation don’t work in that lifestyle.

Wicked | 5/24/2008, 3:21 pm EST

Steve:

I met you in Maui back in 86??? You approached me and introduced yourself after a fellow waitress at my night job kept telling you I was your favoritye fan, which I still am. You were clean… I was not. What ever you decide you are still the best and your dedicated fans will always remember the joy you brought them and still do.

Love ALWAYS,

Steven get in there and get well ~ whatever is going on in your life at this time – remember “you” come first! It doesn’t matter if it is perscription drugs or if you are just smoking a little dope ~ if you are feeling the need for some intervention ~ more power to you! I have seen you many many times and I have to say the music from the ole’ days & current stuff – it’s all great to me ~ I love you guys & will be rockin’ right along with you till’ the day I die! Get well babe ~ and know we will be awaiting your return!

I once suffered | 5/24/2008, 3:27 pm EST

You’re right rehab won’t keep someone sober. Only God has the power to do that. It might be the best place to be though. Maybe it will lead him back to a 12 step program. Everyone wants a logical solution to drugs and alcohol but when it comes to addicts and alcoholics we don’t think logically when it comes to those things.

big ron the movie man | 5/24/2008, 3:29 pm EST

Addiction has always been the bane
of the artist/performer. It is in no way any kind of a laughing matter. I wish nothing but long life and good health for anyone.
Good luck ST. Dream on my brother.

Someone made a comment about Aerosmith being better when they were “high.”
Maybe they made the best music when they were young and in their prime. It just so happens they were using drugs. Drugs didn’t make them good musicians. There’s plenty of drug addicts who are pitiful musicians.
So, anyone that thinks Aerosmith or the Stones were better “when they were high” is freaking fool.

i koow is hard! when you start. and you say once amonth is okay but, suddenly every month leads to every week. and everybody thinks your happy and have everything, and dont suspect what your going through.only yourself and you addiction. so, admiting is the first step. when you have the money and rich is more quantity you consume or if your regular joe and know people and get same quanity. the war in addiction on drug, alchol, and, etc, are all the same. they both ruins life, and relationships between friends, band members, god, family and yourself. so, i know how!your going through just get help and dont worry about the press or celebritys think! take care and get well steven tyler.

Gosh I can’t believe all the negative comments for a positive situation as this is, as far as im concerned, even if this is part of a tv show, some of those people left there knowing they were going to try their hardest to keep straight once they got out , and maybe this is just what he needs , come on people, we are really all just speculating too, rumors are on the rampage everywhere. I just want to give a shout out to you Steven for having the courage to stop before it got too bad this time, we luv ya here in wisconsin , and wish you a quick recovery, we all know you can do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

rawkrbabe | 5/24/2008, 4:05 pm EST

Kudos for your ability to realize you have a problem. It’s not often celebrities check into a rehab on their own free will. Please recover quickly. You’ll be in my thoughts and prayers =)

hopefulblues | 5/24/2008, 4:05 pm EST

Did you ever think, maybe he’s there to help out? Or, would that be to positive and not gossip worthy. He didn’t sell out, he’s carring the message. Steven’s always been there to help other alcoholics/addicts. It doesn’t matter if they are rich and famous or on the streets. He works a good program!
And, if one person can get sober from Dr Drew’s show – then power to him. He truly cares – Neither of them need the money.

Quit yer hattin’

love you. get well soon. i am your biggest fan. from my first concert that i paid for with all of my babysitting money to owning all of your albums and getting excited when aerosmith comes on the radio it’s been awesome.

Keri | 5/24/2008, 5:13 pm EST

As a 30 year fan of Aerosmith, I have seen them play 10 concerts–both high and sober. Their gig at the Joint(Hard Rock in Vegas) was truly amazing. Tyler was totally into the audience and Brad, Joe, Joey, Tom, and Steve really seemed to enjoy us, each other, and the entire evening. If you have read their autobiography, Walk the Line, then you know how difficult Tyler’s journey has been. I can’t believe that anyone would call him a “sell-out” if you knew what he went through, having to go days without any food and being betrayed by fellow musicians. They all deserve the accolades, media attention and money they have earned. And since we’re all not sure exactly why he’s in rehab, let’s just pray for him and see what happens. We all make mistakes and why are all you negative, bad-mouthing people so righteous?

Donita Biery | 5/24/2008, 5:34 pm EST

One of my LIFELONG DREAMS is to see you in concert!!!

Everyone deals with stress and temptation at one time or another, and some deal with it on a daily basis. When you have everything you want available to you, it has to make it that much harder to avoid falling back into old habits. I admire Steven for his music but mostly for the fact that he took the initiative to get help. Congratulations for staying sober for so many years and for working to get your sobriety back.

First, I’m proud of Mr. Tyler dealing with his problems and I wish im all the luck in the world. And my response to the person calling themselves “?”, addicts of drugs and/or alcohol can’t just get over their adictions. Nor is it a matter of “growing up.” It’s a lifetime of keeping yourself out of those situations, knowing yourself, and having your loved ones being there for you. Musicians and Artists in general have a harder time with it because of the environment that their ocupation puts them in. You don’t grow out of an addiction. You deal with it and learn from it. No matter how long it takes.

Hey, you know what? You people that tell him to get sober for his fans have forgotten what this is all about. Him! Steven needs to clean for himself before he can show anything looking like love to his fans. Addictions are hard to overcome if first you don’t come to realize that it is destroying you. This is and has to be about him and only him. He can’t do this for Liv, his fans, his family or anyone else for that matter. He has to do this for himself. I have met Dr.Drew and even appeared on his show once regarding quitting smoking and I will say this, great guy. He is a caring man who will do everything he can to help ST get right. I wish you all the best from right here in Hollywood, California and know that there are true people backing you up in this trying time. I am a fan if Aerosmith and have been for a long time but this isn’t coming from a fans point of view, but a human beings point of view. God Bless brother and good luck!

In the right setting, to the right people….saying the words “I am not enough” can flip from sounding like the end of things – to the beginning of a new life.

We can all start over, several times a day if need be…..until we get it….

….a Love bigger than ourselves (and there are as many definitions of that as there are folks walking this planet – find yours)…

…and a big love for ourselves. I hope Steven finds it all. I hope we all do.

todd | 5/24/2008, 8:34 pm EST

To all the folks that said they aren’t as good as they used to be, who the heck is. I saw Aerosmith in 1977 and last year in Dubai it was a great show, wish I could remember it.

Fan from the beginning | 5/24/2008, 9:23 pm EST

I remember your first album and I was hooked. You have true gift Steven. Dig down deep in that soul and remember how bad you wanted that fame and use that to get what you want now. You can do it! You are and always will be one the greatest of all times.

Bill W. | 5/24/2008, 9:45 pm EST

I was an addict, and I will judge, as someone above suggested. Tyler will come out of rehab spouting the same 12-step BS he used to spout. It didn’t keep him from using again last time, and it won’t this time. I’ve stayed clean nearly twenty years because I’ve been true to myself, not some goofy ideology. There is nothing more ridiculous than another celebrity just out of rehab and working the talk show circuit telling how horrible it was and how much The Program has done for him. Spare us a “saved” Steven Tyler.

“If you’re out on a limb and you want to come in, then line up! Your head’s down, sittin round, pick your face up off the ground and get yourself together, baby, and learn to stand tough, come on and line up! And remember, Steven, the light at the end of the tunnel may be you!! Have loved you for over 30 years. I have faith.

Scooter | 5/25/2008, 1:27 am EST

Hey Steve,Take care of your self and The rest will come easy.Remember? No big deal! Get back on track and everything will be fine.Dont worry about all the shit people are saying! You know we love ya! We’ll see you soon!

david | 5/25/2008, 2:09 am EST

it’s about the music. aerosmith get’s it on. herion does’nt discriminate. I’m guessing tyler is using opiates. I’m on methadone. once you meet the boy, he never completely goes away. herion is a tuff one. good luck mr.tyler

david | 5/25/2008, 2:30 am EST

hey man if you can have visits I’ll cruise up there on my fatboy. I know you ride. you can use my bike and take a couple of laps around the parking lot. this might sound strange to some, but at your age kicking is hard. get on methadone. it satisfys the craving and it’s legal. I don’t know what I’d do w/o it. I guess that’s my way of meeting sobriety half way.

Stacy | 5/25/2008, 8:26 am EST

It’s true “once an addict, always an addict”…I’m a recovering addict&the main thing is we do have a choice “to use or not to use”.Steven you’re doing the right thing by going to rehab!Rehab IS for quitters.Good job by checking into rehab, instead of “checking-out” of life!! Good for you!!Keep continuing to do what you need to do for yourself & say the Serenity Prayer. It works if you want it to!You’re doing the right thing for YOU! :) I’ve been an Aerosmith fan for over 20 years…y’all are AWESOME!! Take “One Day At A Time,” “Let Go & Let God,” & work the 12 Steps!! Keep on rocking!! Stay strong & most importantly…STAY CLEAN!!!!!! Good luck, & God Bless. I saw Aerosmith in Jacksonville,Florida in “88″…kick ass concert…I got backstage passes, met Joe Perry & got his autograph. I was VERY dissappointed that Steven never came up :( but, at least I got to see the concert!! Love Ya, Stacy

Laura in PA | 5/25/2008, 8:50 am EST

I relapsed too after 10 years clean. Recovery is something we do not something we know. Had to forget all I knew start doing my resovery. If I really believe Im an addict I treat myself as so. Love ya Steve. I have 7yrs back now and loving this side of recovery. Keep on keeping on.

Mohegan Sun | 5/25/2008, 9:01 am EST

My 14 year old thinks Steve Tyler is the coolest and when Steve Tyler bent over the stage railings at the very end of the concert to Walk This Way, he almost went over the railings into the crowd. My son was right at this spot and rub his Aerosmith hat on Steve Tyler and treasures the hat. As a father, I am a little disappointed as Steve Tyler does have a young following and hope this doesn’t send the wrong message. Steve is just a man and has weakness like all. I am happy he did the right thing to start a path to getting better and wish him the best as our thoughts are with him.

r u getting royalities w/ yer recovery program or are there other motives ?

RockInAHardPlace | 5/25/2008, 11:32 am EST

Some people on here are fuckkkin stupid!

“Get him back in the studio while he’s on drugs”

Thats not gonna make another Rocks or Get Your Wings you assholes!

Some people need to get over the fact that the 70s are gone. Just because Tyler is using again, it won’t suddenly churn out a lovely new album just like Toys in the Attic.

All the best ST.x

RockInAHardPlace | 5/25/2008, 11:35 am EST

+ I’d like to add, as a huge fan of aerosmith and steven tyler, that if he goes on that VH1 rehab show, i will loose alot of respect for him.

Gil | 5/25/2008, 11:39 am EST

Its like everything else, ya have to want it bad enough. His problems are his problems. You are only as sick as your secrets.

His Train Keeps a Rollin... | 5/25/2008, 12:48 pm EST

I have been an Aerosmith fan for 25+ yrs…From Back in the Day to the New Millinium, Steve and Co. has had his ups and downs. Great to see his Train still a Rollin but it takes alot of GUTS to step up and say it’s time to change the freight…

Brad from Detroit | 5/25/2008, 1:22 pm EST

As a recovering alcholic, I can say that he struggles with an addiction every day. I find this story suspect because of where he checked in. This reality show is not the way to find sobriety. Recovery should be a personal issue, made with personal, and private reasons. With all the money Steven Tyler has, I find it funny he would choose Dr. Drew’s show to put his addiction “on display” I wonder what his motives are. Addiction should not be glorified on Television, but should be kept private, dealing with the shame is bad enough. I’ve lost all respect for Steven. This 60 year-old rocker has had his 15 minutes of fame, hell, 20 years of it. Its time to hang up the spandex Steve, and retire… for good.

Young fan | 5/25/2008, 3:48 pm EST

Well Steven, you stayed clean for 20 years and it may not be easy but you can do it again :) Good luck!

Muffy | 5/26/2008, 1:21 am EST

I don’t think Steven Tyler will be filmed for the rehab TV show. I don’t think they are filming anymore.

ramadon | 5/26/2008, 7:26 am EST

wow, we have to keep brain washing, out of this after all we are talking about someones life, you are 60 yrs old,rehab,12 steps, what a joke, when you grow up and get tired, come talk to me,only when you ready to grow up,12 steps are old news, it makes you keep thinking that you will never recover, let’s try a new technique, called growing up, understanding your chilhood, and your spirituality

CASSANDRA | 5/26/2008, 11:13 am EST

this is directed to “brad from detroit”- FOR HIM TO SAY HES HAD HIS 15 MINUTES OF FAME; THEN QUOTE; “HELL; 20 YEARS OF IT” IS ASS NINE. TIME TO HANG UP HIS SPANDEX HE SAYS; FUNNY HOW THIS 60 YR OLD CAN STILL RUN AROUND STAGE QUICKER THAN MOST 40 YR OLDS; DONT BE JEALOUS BRAD; GETS YOU NO WHERE. EVERY TIME THEY TOUR THEY SELL OUT; SO I WOULDNT SAY ITS TIME TO HANG UP THE SPANDEX QUITE YET. DESPITE HIS BEING IN REHAB; THESE GUYS ROCK STILL TO THIS DAY & I THINK WILL FOR A LONG TIME COMING.

Denese in Indiana | 5/26/2008, 11:47 am EST

You know the lyrics, Steven — it’s AMAZIN’ — and I’m sayin a prayer for the desperate hearts tonight (and I’m including you in my list). Stand tough and find your strength, wherever that may come from. You’ve taken that gigantic first step … we’re here to cheer you on!

Thank God! | 5/26/2008, 2:38 pm EST

To Anonymous: No publicity stunt – he’s been a wreck ever since he split up with Theresa and met up with a 35 year old woman who loves the booze and the drugs. How can you not go off the wagon with that around 24/7? Keep her out of your life, man, and get back on track! Thank God you are at a place where she can’t get in to see you! Best of luck…..

BKP | 5/26/2008, 4:45 pm EST

Steven, you were clean long enough to know that you can do it again! Don’t end up like so many great rockers have….DEAD!!! And don’t get clean for ANYONE, but yourself! You are a great singer & band leader. You mean so much to so many people. Don’t let us down! If you stay on drugs you might as well be dead because they will kill you before it’s over. I love you, man! I’m just a 53 yr. old recovering addict….11yrs. clean & I KNOW how hard it is to stay clean! Get that monkey off of your back…again. You can do it! You did it before! If I can do it ANYBODY can!!! I am the weakest person in this world, but if I was to die right now, I would die CLEAN! Again, we love you, Steven! Please work hard to get yourself straightened out. We look forward to seeing you again. If your band is messed up, too, then get someone to replace them. There’s more than one great musician in this world! But there’s only ONE STEVEN TYLER & WE LOVE YOU!!! We want you, we need you so come on back to us & show the world that you are still the greatest! Good luck!

Aerohearted Lady | 5/26/2008, 7:15 pm EST

I really don’t know if Steven or any of his people are reading these comments, but if he is, I want you to know Steven, that help comes from God above…nowhere else and in no one else. I knew you had been down for along time before this, but you are making things right and getting your house in order. Please don’t publicize your recovery, share it as you always have with others who have been encouraged by your story. I saw you in Dallas in ‘06 and knew there was trouble then, based on what I knew was true in the 70’s…you and Joe didn’t do well with each other that night, and my heart broke into. Please don’t get involved with anyone as you are recovering…put the focus on you and your family. Remember the important things in life are not all the things that are lit up with spotlights.
You are in my heart and prayers =)

Steven has enough of a grip on his demons and addiction to know that the minute you think you’ve got it under control it will bite you in the ass. Keep in mind people, this is the same guy that checked himself into rehab for sex addiction.. Steven will be fine and will blow our asses off with new material on the next album.

Sorry Thank God Man, she’s in there with him.

rita | 5/30/2008, 10:37 am EST

Steve, you are someone I will learn from! We share the same B-Day & amount of recovery & from the same substances. Yes, addiction is always with us in our thoughts, cunning, baffling, powerful, & yes, patient. Thanx for reminding me it’s still there & we share a common bond….sorry it snuck up on you & “I ARE NOT EXEMPT”….BY THE WAY, my fav album was “Night in the Ruts”, fan for life & thanx for making Honkin On BoBo….I knew this was an exceptional talent of “Aerosmith”’s & I waited 20 yrs for it!!!!! KEEP THE FATIH

I grew up in Yonkers and attend the same schools as Steven Tyler and use to watch them practice in Don Solomens’ back yard….drug were all over the place any thing yo wanted. We had more herion overdoses on our block than any other part of Yonkers..it was sick..It was difficult not to get involved cause everyone was doing everything and having the time of there lives..if you will…I was always sad to hear about the drugs and guns…but be it as it may the man makes the money …the money doesn’t make the man..Good Luck Steven pick a reason to change..change is good

I don’t care about Aerosmith and I don’t care about Steven Tyler. If anyone feels they need help and takes a step towards it, I am happy for them. Even if publicity is the catalyst, taking that first step is the point. So, I’m happy.

jutta J | 1/25/2009, 2:25 pm EST

I’m glad to be reminded that recovery to me means pealing the layers off the onion to find myself. Sex addiction, codependency and then love addiction are often the arenas for addiction after the drugs are gone. I needed to change me or I can expect to get what I always got in relationships. God grant me the serenity to accept the people I cannot change, the courage to change the people I can and the wisdom to know it’s me. Wishing Steve courage to keep coming back, we need company to learn the steps.
