New Beck Song “Chemtrails” Hits the Web

5/20/08, 9:20 am EST

Beck’s “Chemtrails,” the first song from his upcoming Danger Mouse-produced Modern Guilt, is now streaming on the singer’s official website. As Rolling Stone reported last week, the album channels British rock of the 1960s, and the psychedelic “Chemtrails” fits that mold. Beck seems to be channeling Jefferson Airplane/Moby Grape mastermind Skip Spence — an artist Beck previously covered — on the track, which may or may not be the first single. Modern Guilt still doesn’t have an official release date, but sources say June is a safe bet.

Very cool, Beck manages to reinvent himself yet again.

Huh… I don’t think it’ll be released as a single. It sounds too epic for that. But is anyone else picking up a Flaming Lips vibe?

Anonymous | 5/20/2008, 11:31 am EST

like it a lot

Hmmmm – didn’t move me. I guess if one knows how the original stuff sounded, there is a desire for more something ore.

Outstanding.

I'm only mildly retarded | 5/20/2008, 1:14 pm EST

but…
I couldn’t find the song on Beck’s website. Where’s it at?

Chipper | 5/20/2008, 1:46 pm EST

It’s in that weird purple control in the upper right. It moves down if you mouse over it.

Swingline | 5/20/2008, 2:29 pm EST

Can definitely hear a Flaming Lips-esque vibe.
The beauty of Beck is he re-invents himself every time, so he never comes off predictable.
It’s mellow, but different from the mellow turns Beck has made in the past.
Can’t wait to hear the rest…

Caribou Fan | 5/20/2008, 3:01 pm EST

Sounds a lot like Caribou, but not as good.

Im a Joker | 5/20/2008, 3:19 pm EST

dude its amazing

I agree with the Flaming Lips sound a bit. Beck certainly doesn’t have the voice Wayne Coyne has but the sound isn’t bad. Sparklehorse a bit? He’s always been original, from album to album, I just wish I wasn’t contractually obligated to somewhat hate him for being a Scientologist. Beck tunes are pretty phat in general though.

Swany | 5/20/2008, 3:45 pm EST

What I’m trying to say is it needs more drugs. Psychadellics please.

John | 5/20/2008, 6:53 pm EST

I like it!
Most of Beck’s stuff is good..

stupid "stuff" | 5/21/2008, 10:19 am EST

hey John, Beck makes MUSIC, not “stuff”.

ScottyHall | 5/21/2008, 11:51 am EST

This song sounds a little bit like Sea Change’s “Sunday Sun”… but w/ more drugs. I think this upcoming record will be one of his absolute best.

Another Caribou Fan | 6/1/2008, 10:59 am EST

Wow. And here I thought I was the only one that compared this track to something that would fit onto Andorra the first time I heard this track!

I was a huge fan of Sea Change and was growing tired of the whole Guero/Information vibe so this is definitely going to be one stellar of an album!

Thank you to Beck for a great new song about the issue of Chemtrails.

Chemtrails are in our air:
YOU ARE BREATHING ETHYLENE DIBROMIDE, NANO-PARTICULATES OF ALUMINUM AND BARIUM AND CATIONIC POLYMER FIBERS WITH UNIDENTIFIED BIOACTIVE MATERIAL. “Biologic components have been reported in airborne samples that include: modified molds, desiccated red blood cells and exotic strains of bacteria.” Welcome to the brave new world of toxic barium skies, weather control, mind control and population control through the use of chemtrails modulated with electromagnetic frequencies generated by HAARP. Our health is under attack as evidenced by the skyrocketing rates of chemtrail induced lung cancer, asthma and pulmonary/respiratory problems. Our natural environment and planetary weather systems are under attack resulting in freak lightening strikes, bizarre weather, 20% less sunlight reaching the Earth’ surface, the alarming, nearly complete collapse in certain areas of the west coast marine ecosystem and the creation of some of the largest tornadoes and hurricanes on record. Our skies are increasingly hazed over with fake barium/ aluminum particulate, ethylene dibromide chemtrail clouds. Whether in the atmosphere or in the Ocean this added particulate matter is a hazard to the health of every living thing on this planet. My health and the health of my family has already been drastically affected. There is a main-stream media blackout on this subject so the only way to get the word out is by word of mouth.

Beck’s new song will MAYBE make some people look into this alarming thing that is CHEMTRAILS…Thanks BECK!!!
Great new song!
Whoever wants to know a little more about what he’s talking about should watch an ‘Interview with Clifford Carnicom’ on YouTube (12 part) then this song will really make you THINK ALOT!!!
Thanks again BECK!

adam "Caribou" | 6/24/2008, 1:10 pm EST

This track is a blatant take of Caribou and its a shame as I like Beck but this just isn’t original. Another shame is that its a really good song, just not his song !!

Beck fans go out and buy Caribou’s – Andorra

Bee | 11/26/2008, 2:28 am EST

I like it, sounds like Syd Barrett Pink Floyd Days, or Saucer Full of Secrets. Chemtrails are real, just start to look up..

Leave it to an outstanding musician like Beck to bring the unreported CHEMTRAIL dispersants into the public eye and draw attention something that has been going on over heads world wide for more than a DECADE!! You sir are a HERO and PATRIOT, THANK YOU…..
