Metallica’s Ulrich & Pearl Jam’s McCready Lay Out Bonnaroo 2008 Plans

Bonnaroo is less than a month away, so we checked in with Metallica’s Lars Ulrich and Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready to see what’s in store for their performances. Although they’re working on a new record with producer Brendan O’Brien, Pearl Jam probably won’t be unveiling any new tunes. “[The record] is in the infant stages,” McCready said during a phone-in press conference. “It has to grow up a bit. We’ll [play] some obscure B-sides. We might get into some sort of jam. That’s the vibe of Bonnaroo so far.” Metallica, on the other hand, are in the “nips and tucks” stages of finishing their new record, which will hit stores in September (for more on the band’s LP, click here). Lars Ulrich thinks that unlike the benefit they played last night in L.A., they’ll definitely unleash some new metal epics, many of which extend to seven- or eight-minutes long. “We’re going to Europe next week and then we come to Bonnaroo,” he said. “Hopefully there’ll be some new stuff thrown in there. I’d say that’s pretty likely.” So what do the new songs sound like? Says Ulrich, “There’s alot of hardcore, nutty, super-fast speed stuff. It’s a little more like the earlier records.”

Oh, I see. So if I go see Pearl Jam live then all the shitty music they’ve recorded will all of sudden sound great?

Same old whining from the same old whiners. Your band sucks. We hate your band, and if we met you, we’d most likely hate you too!

Nothing like arguing with a dead guy!! I hope all of you know that Kurt Cobain has been dead for 14 years…unless…he’s still alive!!Okay…where’s Elvis?

Cobain, you obviously have not seen PJ live or even cared to for that matter . . . too bad you’re missing out on a fantastic musical experience not to be forgotten for great music and great crowd feel

Wish i could be at bonnarroo. If you doubt pearl jam’s live show, check out “touring band 2000″ and “live at the garden” dvds. Pearl jam is number one in my book for best live act. Can’t wait for the new album.

It’s going to be epic when Mike jams out with Richard Simmons when he unleashes his new Sweatin’ to the Oldies tunes at Boneroo. I hear it’s going to be a three hour raucous set. The stars are aligning….

Still trying to figure out where Cobain or Nirvana are mentioned anywhere. Lars is trying to tell us there’s a chance Metallica might sound like old Metallica yet again and you’re bringing up old news. Old, dead, rotting six feet under cause I double barrelled my head kinda news.
Don’t be bitter cause the better band stayed around.

Cobain….Pearl Jam is their generation’ best band. Vedder & Co. refuse to sell out like everyone else.

mookieblaylock | 5/16/2008, 1:38 pm EST

that would be the best high school garage band you ever did hear

El Diablo.......... | 5/16/2008, 1:26 pm EST

good thing Cobain blew his head off, he was awful!

Vedder | 5/16/2008, 12:41 pm EST

yeah, and where’s Nirvana?

Cobain | 5/16/2008, 12:37 pm EST

Pearl Jam…..nothing more than a high school garage band…
