Madonna Plans Girls School in Malawi

5/14/08, 10:36 am EST

Madonna is spearheading a movement to have a girls school built in Malawi, the African country from which she adopted her son David Banda last year. According to her lawyer, “A task force of four prominent Malawians has already been formed to head the project which will be on the scale of what Oprah Winfrey has in South Africa.” The Material Girl’s plan to build a girls school comes on the eve of an announcement in which Madonna is expected to be given full custody of Banda, a move that follows a tumultuous eighteen months since Madonna’s highly-criticized adoption. Her lawyer also stated that he expected funding for the multi-million dollar project to be confirmed within the next two weeks.

I love Madonna, but, just like Oprah, she is missing on opportunity (sp?). Why not educate boys about equal treatment for women and girls. Uplift everybody, not just the “chosen”.

I think Madonna is trying to manipulate the Malawian government.
“See, I am a good Material Girl,” in order to adopt the Malawi child!! If she wasn’t trying to get her way by adopting the child, she could give two craps for that nation!!

I’m a man in Malawi and this place needs to focus on Women. If Malawian Men would stop opressing women the men would be happier. The country will never advance as long as it expects women to be deferential. Madonna gets props for this.
