Weekend Rock List: City Songs

5/9/08, 3:55 pm EST

Tokio Hotel came to our office today, and even though they spell Tokyo incorrectly (well, the German way), it got us thinking about songs with cities in their titles. Therefore this week’s Rock List is an ode to tracks that serve as homages to big metropolises, small towns and other places you can find on a map. Let us know your favorites, and on Monday we’ll count up the picks. Before you break out your atlases, here’s a few to get you started:

Nirvana – “Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge on Seattle”
Tom Waits – “I Wish I Was in New Orleans (In the Ninth Ward)”
Madonna – “I Love New York”
KISS – “Detroit Rock City”
The Clash – “The Guns of Brixton”

I hate this song with a passion, especially since they play it at Yankee Stadium every time they win,

“New York, New York”

But At Shea Stadium they play “New York State Of Mind” when the Mets win.

I think most people would agree that the Billy Joel song is much cooler than that corny Frank Sinatra crap.

Hey check this out: this song probably has more cities in it than just about any other.

This is a song called “Kissin’ Time” and it’s a song by the Hottest band in the land . . . KISS

Come on Charlotte
Wake up San Diego, Milwaukee, Miami
Put your two lips together and kiss
We’re kissin’ in Cleveland, and Cincinnatti too
Way out in Chicago, I’ll tell you what to do
They party all over, even in St. Lou
So baby get ready and I’ll be kissin’ you

Oh, oh, ’cause anytime is kissin’ time, USA
So treat me right, don’t make me fight
And we’ll rock and roll tonight

We’re kissin’ in Dallas
And Philly’s goin’ wild
So let’s Kiss Atlanta, ho
You know we’ll make it smile

We love the women
Way down in Tennessee
So baby come on now and start a-kissin’ me

Oh, oh, ’cause anytime is kissin’ time, USA
So treat me right, don’t make me fight
And we’ll rock and roll tonight

Kiss all of Seattle, LA to Baltimore
You know we been kissin’ in ‘Frisco, so lets kiss some more
Let’s do it in Detroit, they all know the score
So baby, oh baby, what are we waitin’ for

Oh, oh, ’cause anytime is kissin’ time, USA
So treat me right, don’t make me fight
And we’ll rock and roll tonight

Oh, oh, ’cause anytime is kissin’ time, USA
So treat me right, don’t make me fight
And we’ll rock and roll tonight

Oh, oh, ’cause anytime is kissin’ time, USA
So treat me right, don’t make me fight
And we’ll rock and roll tonight

Suck on that!

Get this and turn the volume up.

If the better half is sleeping ’cause you worked your asses off all day, turn the speakers off and put the headphones on ~ but, be prepared to get get the urge to get dressed and walk down to the local pub and dance with strangers. *

Have a wonderful weekend.

* After seeing if your baby wants to go out for a few. **

“Kansas City” by every band that has “toured” Route 66.

Charles Crossley, Jr. | 5/11/2008, 2:25 am EST

Correction: “Louisiana Man” by Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers. I always called the song “Baton Rouge” because, well, that’s the last thing he sings in the chorus. My mistake.
