The Police Announce “Last Ever Concert”

5/6/08, 4:14 pm EST

The Police held a press conference in Times Square today to announce its “last ever concert” will be held in New York City this summer. Besides New York mayor Michael Bloomberg mentioning that the show will probably be held indoors, the remainder of the details were kept under wraps. The band also announced a $1 million donation to be directed towards the MillionTreesNYC tree-planting program (the mayor’s line about making “every breath we take cleaner and greener” was met with groans), which will be matched with an additional million in public funds. The concert itself will benefit New York public television. Mayor Bloomberg presented Sting, Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers with keys to the city and praised the band for “thirty years of staying at the top of your game” over its “long career.” Anyone with information on what the band was up to between 1986 and 2007 — which only Bloomberg seems to have — is encouraged to contact Rock and Roll Daily posthaste.

The Police are a bunch of cowards.
They should make that final album.
They went out on the road to do it all once more time. They only did it halfheartedly. If they really want to write musical history, they should make that album.(maybe kill each other in the process) Now it will always be, what if…..? No one is waiting for another Sting album (maybe Sting on harpsichord, haha).
Missed opportunity!

I wish they’d make one more album.
I’m quite sure they’ve got one good one in them.

What sad and pathetic posts. I’ve been to 5 shows so far. The comments reek of wannabe musicians. Good luck with your bands, even if I doubt anyone will download a copy, let alone pay for it.

I was there in ‘83. I recall the crowd booing J. Jett off the stage. Just another opening act. The crowd was there for the biggest band in the world…

They need to retire.I have a friend who is a roadie on the tour, and confirms that half the shows on the tour have been slaw.At least Van Halen still delivers most nights.

A more worth it concert would be Siren music fest in Brooklyn…

multiple awesome acts… and it’s free, plus your helping the local businesses of that area

THAT’S what it’s all about

Sting can get back to working on his books of poetry, instead of torturing us with another version of roxanne

Hey, when did Mayor Bloomberg join the Police? What instrument will he be playing and how will he be able to run New York City while on tour with the Police?
