“American Idol” Bids a Tearful Farewell to Brooke White

5/1/08, 11:20 am EST

There will be no more tears for supernanny Brooke White, as she became the latest singer eliminated on American Idol last night. White edged out fellow bottom two-er Syesha Mercado for the bottom slot. White had perhaps the most uncomfortable exit song in the history of the show, as she warbled her way through Neil Diamond’s “I Am…I Said” while choking back tears until she finally turned her back on the audience at song’s end. Ryan Seacrest also attempted to clear up the conspiracy theories regaring Paula Abdul’s time traveling on Tuesday night, though his assertion that Adbul was “one of the family” was probably vague and confusing to anybody who hadn’t actually read the accusations of the show being a fix (Paula herself said she confused the live show with the dress rehearsal). Last night’s show also saw this week’s mentor Diamond mumble his way through a new song, a guest appearance from Natasha Bedingfield (who creepily hit on David Archuleta) and a call-in segment that saw Abdul crush the dreams of a ten year old girl and Simon Cowell’s first crush call in to mock him. Next week’s theme will be songs from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s “500 Songs That Shaped Rock” list, which should be great for David Cook (plenty of grunge!) and a panicky week for Archuleta (what is this “rock” you speak of?).

Ugh, for the last time Syesha was NOT in the bottom two. Ryan never specifically said he was looking for the bottom two. You have to pay attention to those subtle clues. Syesha was simply the last contestant to be safe. The bottom two were Jason and Brooke, with Jason narrowly getting more votes than Brooke. Syesha and David Cook actually received the most votes Tuesday night. The producers arranged the results to make it a showdown between the women to see who would be the last one standing and obviously (and rightfully so) it’s Syesha Mercado.

I am so happy that Brooke is finally gone. She has no real talent. She seemed like a nice person, but I can sing better than she can. oh well, glad she is gone, gone, gone.

Brooke was one of my favorites on the show, I loved her voice, her personality, yes she wears her feelings on her sleeve, but then so do I and a lot others. She has a great album out and I think “I’m Free” will go a very long way. I can see her as a good wife, mom and super singer/sonwriter. The woman has talent.

I hate to see Brooke go! She was one of my favorites on the show and she has a really unique voice, an amazing talent and a great personality.
