4/28/08, 10:35 am EST

Coldplay refurbished their website this weekend as they prepare for the release of their new album Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends. First, Chris Martin and the gang will allow fans to download first single “Violet Hill” for free starting tomorrow at 12:15pm U.K. time (7:15am EST.) The single will only be available for free for one week. Additionally, Coldplay will play two free concerts, including one on June 23rd at New York’s Madison Square Garden. Details on how to get tickets to the MSG show and the free show at London’s Brixton Academy will be announced soon. The band also revealed the album art for Viva La Vida: a defaced version of Eugene Delacroix’s 1830 masterpiece Liberty Leading the People with half the album title scrawled in white graffiti.

emi is trying to redeem themselves after losing a band who have since done a similar free concert thing….hmmm, some will know what i mean…..

artwork would’ve fit the last part of the title..not Viva La Vida…how is that french….this could be a great album or a really bad one….we’ll just have to see….

but man, coldplay…stop trying so hard sometimes…

I am very excited for this record. Looking forward to hearing a more experimental, percussive side to Coldplay. They have the talent to pull it off. Love the album cover.

Love the artwork and I’m excited to download the song tomorrow. Been waiting for this since X&Y came out since I was immediately disappointed with that album.

who is trying? I think they are doing, and unless “hahaha” is bono, I dont think you should talk or post anymore.

bad music | 4/28/2008, 3:34 pm EST

coldplay is yucky! make ears hurty!

Ppppppp | 4/28/2008, 3:48 pm EST

Wow, They used to rip off U2 and Radiohead. Now they can take a famous piece of art, slap it right on the cover and scribble some graffiti all over it. WOOO! Coldplay is right on track! VIVA LA VIDA!

another monster for u all | 4/28/2008, 4:09 pm EST

as usual following the example of radiohead :D

Just me | 4/28/2008, 4:47 pm EST

Why can’t anyone just accept what they’re doing? Who in the world said they were trying to copy anybody?? Don’t even say that the album will be bad and that the music’s terrible…you have YET to even hear it!!! I love Coldplay.. Viva la Vida!!

DAVID | 4/28/2008, 6:26 pm EST

I love it, WOOOOOWOWOWOWOWOWHOOOOOOOOOOO

Nmar | 4/28/2008, 7:21 pm EST

Good band coming back with a new Album. Hope it’s as good as Rush of Blood to the Head.

he | 4/29/2008, 3:48 pm EST

I LOVE VIOLET HILL!!!

and to all the ppl who say they’re “copying” Radiohead or U2… get a life. just because they have music in the same genre doesn’t mean they’re copying everyone else. if you’re going to say that, you might as well say that Kanye is copying 50 Cent is copying Nelly is copying Chris Brown

Haters need to quiet down. The new track sounds amazing, and it’s a very promising step in a new direction.

Shiver | 4/29/2008, 10:42 pm EST

The new track kind of is a step back. Sounds to me like a crappy Genesis song.

Gagik | 4/30/2008, 12:11 am EST

the song is awesome, they used many brand new sounds, it’s heavier, if the album is in that way, then it can become a classic”)

violet kills | 4/30/2008, 10:15 pm EST

The new song violet hills is another step forward for coldplay. It seems they get better each album but every album is great in their own way. I can’t wait to hear Viva la Vida Or Death and All His Friends when it comes out. It will be another classic coldplay album and a step forward for the band as well. The song and the band are the best. Long live Coldplay!!!

COLDPLAY HAS A VERY GOOD CHANCE OF BEING THIS GENERATION’S “MEN AT WORK”- WHICH MEANS THEIR TIME AT THE TOP IS ABOUT OVER AND THEY WILL SOON BE A MUSICAL FOOTNOTE OR TWO

Andrew | 5/3/2008, 2:09 am EST

Well, hell, I like it. That’s all I care about. It’s catchy and smart. And I’m grateful they are giving the song away for free. Pretty nice of them, I think.

coldplay | 5/4/2008, 10:26 pm EST

when people say they are copying i think your taking out of context. They mean that they are more like radiohead in the fact that they are using digital downloads and things. Something that radiohead probably revolutionized and will probably be down many more times with big international bands.

BWixed | 5/5/2008, 11:21 pm EST

Love it! Cold play chanels David Gilmore. The stripped back piano at the end is audio bliss. Its different…the new direction is welcome here.
