Site Specific: Live From Daryl’s House, Music Videos That Suck

Daryl Hall Has a Webcam!

In recent years, Hall and Oates have been embraced by younger musicians from Band of Horses to Death Cab for Cutie’s Ben Gibbard. So it’s fitting that the duo’s fair-haired half rocks out with newer artists at >Live From Daryl’s House. In a series of Webcasts, Hall’s crew records his laid-back rehearsal-style duets with artists such as Gym Class Heroes’ Travis McCoy and KT Tunstall. Old-school Hall and Oates fans will also be thrilled to see the two together: Check out the totally ridiculous, totally awesome Christmas special where they perform jazzed-up standards like “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear” and debate over the proper way to decorate the tree. (As Oates protests, “The small balls go on top.”) All clips are recorded in Hall’s rustic homes, including his house in London. “This is just a way to see my environment,” he says. “Live From Daryl’s House is a state of mind, you know?”

Bad Music Videos Made Good
VH1 Classic may not air as many vintage music videos anymore, but you can still get a Sunday afternoon’s worth of retro cheese online. Music Videos That Suck mines the Web for the most cringe-inducing clips. Some are worthy of the site’s title, like the McCain Girls’ “It’s Raining McCain,” a recent green-screen-effects-laden tribute to the Republican presidential candidate, sung to the tune of “It’s Raining Men.” But others offer prime trivia material: Did you know Jackson Browne and Clarence Clemons’ “You’re a Friend of Mine” has a Daryl Hannah cameo? For convenience, MVTS is grouped into easy-to-search categories, including “Audio NSFW,” “Awesome,” “Canadian” and “Sucks.”
