News Ticker: The Replacements, Jordin Sparks, Nas, Satellite Radio

4/21/08, 2:15 pm EST

  • The Replacements, who reissue four of their classic releases this week, considered reuniting for this year’s festival circuit but ultimately decided the time wasn’t right. A future reunion has not been ruled out, however: “I think Paul [Westerberg] and I have something to offer each other still,” Tommy Stinson said.
  • Last year’s American Idol winner Jordin Sparks was forced to cancel concerts this past weekend after suffering from an acute vocal cord hemorrhage. The affliction occurs when someone uses their voice at the height of a laryngitis infection and is potentially “career-threatening.”
  • It’s safe to assume Nas‘ new song will not be played on the radio: Check out “Be A Nigger Too,” which may or may not be from his controversial new album Nigger.
  • Record labels are concerned that the planned merger between satellite radio giants XM and Sirius will lessen the airtime for music to be broadcast, as stations with similar formats will be merged.
