Sub Pop Turns Twenty, Invites Mudhoney, Green River, Wolf Parade to Birthday Party

4/16/08, 1:10 pm EST

To celebrate twenty years of providing a home to some of the most seminal underground music in history, Sub Pop Records is throwing a party. Taking place on July 12 and 13th in their native Seattle, the label will gather former and present acts for the SP20 Festival. Leading the charge are old school favorites Mudhoney, the Fluid and a reunion of Green River (which features members of Pearl Jam, Mudhoney and Love Battery) and new schoolers Wolf Parade, Iron & Wine, Flight of the Conchords and No Age. The label will also host a comedy festival featuring Patton Oswalt, Eugene Mirman and Todd Barry. Sub Pop also plans on reissuing some of their greatest hits, with Mudhoney’s Superfuzz Bigmuff the first to get the deluxe treatment. To see the initial batch of artists playing SP20, follow the jump.

“Sub Pop Records is throwing a party.”

Hopefully, like the Boston Tea Party. It’s about time they throw their shitty music from their shitty bands into the ocean.

NotMozart | 4/16/2008, 5:16 pm EST

seriously, Henry Chinaski, go listen to your Britney Spears and leave real music to those of us that actually appreciate lyrics and emotion. Go back to your fake plastic music and leave Sub Pop alone.

ARTWANKER | 4/16/2008, 8:43 pm EST

Green River was fucking boss.

Tad | 4/18/2008, 12:33 am EST

Not mozart i agree with you. Music should be lyrics, emotion, and raw energy not cookie cutter tunes by bubble gum acts. Here’s to another 20 years of real music and subpop records.

Not Mozart and Tad, I just want you to know that I don’t think talking to yourself is a bad thing. Don’t be ashamed of it.
