Jane’s Addiction Reunion Gig (With Eric Avery) Confirmed

4/16/08, 12:05 am EST

When Rock Daily brought you news that Jane’s Addiction would reunite to receive the NME’s Godlike Genius Award at the magazine’s April 23rd ceremony in Los Angeles, whether or not the group would perform was still up on the air. Tonight, though, comes confirmation that the band will indeed take the stage — with original bassist Eric Avery. “I’ve chosen to reject the prospects of reuniting in the past for personal and philosophical reasons,” Avery says in a statement. “I have always considered reunions to be a way to make a quick buck, and it sells short my own experience of it the first time around. The reason I started to even consider this is because it’s honoring the past instead of trying to recreate it.” It’ll be Avery’s first performance with Perry Farrell, Dave Navarro and Stephen Perkins since 1991. As of now, the gig is being billed as “one night only” so don’t expect to see the original Jane’s at Lollapalooza this summer — yet.

Crazy good time to still be up late.

I already have my tickets for Lollapalooza and despite it’s weak cast of supporting bands, adding the original Jane’s Addiction to the line-up would quite possibly make it among (if not the) greatest festival line-up of all time.

Hey Now. | 4/16/2008, 12:46 am EST

Eric Avery in the mix is awesome. Perry and Dave just accept the fact that together you move people. Seperate the magic falls short. Find a way to create and evolve.Maybe call Van Halen and see how they are doing it.

ChiliPepper | 4/16/2008, 1:27 am EST

truthfully i’m always here. that’s why i always get to go first. YAY. jane’s rocks.

Ryoma16 | 4/16/2008, 8:10 am EST

I hate them!

NYC Nate | 4/16/2008, 8:35 am EST

Jane’s with Avery!!! Amazing! The first time I heard “Ritual de lo Habitual”, I was 13 and it altered my view of music (and its commercially instituted “limits”) for the rest of my life. Eric Avery had a perfect sense of space in that band, as in he really laid a nice canvas for the rest of the band to paint on. Won’t be making it to LA, though. I guess I’ll have to wait until it hits YouTube…

Swingline | 4/16/2008, 9:21 am EST

Great news, welcome back Mr. Avery! Even if it’s a one-off, it’s nice Jane’s has been able come full circle.

If you like 80's hair rock... | 4/16/2008, 10:51 am EST

janes is my zeppelin well like them to me Makes my tummy get butterflys Yeah!!!!!! janes in the mutha-friggin house!!!!

MD | 4/16/2008, 1:04 pm EST

This is lame…because it is public knowledge that Farrell and Navarro hate each other.

Vernon Blank | 4/16/2008, 1:37 pm EST

I respect Avery for his views on reunions, and considering the endless slather of awful reunion tours that have been washing over the continent, he’s backed up by fact. I would love to see them all onstage again. Whether or not Perry and Navarro hate each other is irrelevant, besides, despite the poor choices Perry has made at times, Navarro’s just a p#ick.

xiola purple | 4/16/2008, 5:31 pm EST

jane’s IS one of a kind, they changed the whole music thing of the 90’s and beyond…the first time i saw them they opened for iggy….and have seen them over 25 time’s since …remember…idoits rule…..get your s#*t together…and show everyone what a real show is ……….

SIN-DERELLA | 4/16/2008, 7:36 pm EST

I love Jane’s Addiction. Perry is God!!!

Ocean Size | 4/16/2008, 9:30 pm EST

Jane’s addiction is the best band of the past twenty years. I never get tired of their albums and to be frank, most bands today will not have a legacy that equals Jane’s Addiction. Their influence is monumental in the realm of rock and roll.I don’t listen to their songs, I Experience the songs and the albums are works of art that sound as refreshing today as they did when released. I never thought eric avery would join the band again. That’s awesome. I know his convictions are not to recreate the past but i would be thrilled to go to a music store and find a new jane’s addiction album with all four original members in the fold. They don’t have to recreate their past sound but i think it would be great for eric to record one final album with jane’s addiction to complete the legacy by coming full circle. I am excited. Hopefully they’ll tour instead of a one off show and hopefully they can handle internal tension long enough to record and release one final album with avery in the lineup. Jane’s addiction rules!!! Also, Stephen perkins said there will be a box set to be released this year. That’s something else to look forward too. Rock on!!!

That’s one long paragraph (didn’t strain my eyes to read it)!

Ever hear of double spacing?

Rockstar70 | 4/17/2008, 3:26 pm EST

What about that Football commercial Perry did? Perry has such integrity.

motley who? | 4/17/2008, 11:34 pm EST

Get the facts straight: Jane’s addiction is NOT a sellout!!!

ocean size | 4/18/2008, 12:02 am EST

Perry a sellout? Anybody remember tommy lee’s sad attempt at reviving his career through reality tv:
Tommy Lee Goes To college
and Rock Star Supernova
and what about vince neil for a vhl plastic surgery show?
and of course nikki sixx on tv with his “look at me i kicked drugs project” heroin diaries and of course the whole band whoring themselves out on tv in a “reunion attempt” on vhl. I guess they don’t have the gonads to get back together by talking to one another in private. THey have to whore themselves out for attention. Janes addiction are men. They chose to reunite: a band decision NOT a publicity stunt. You see Perry farrell has integrity. As eric avery has stated they don’t need to “recreate the past”. Motley on the other hand are not breaking new ground. They’re coming back after 10 years to make music based on the “Dirt”. Seems motley is to scared to branch out creatively so they focus on their hey day instead of today. Janes addiction a sellout? HEll no! They have integrity and break boundries. Motley crue, not a sellout? don’t make me laugh. Grow out your hair, put on your makeup, and stuff your pants like you did in the ’80’s. Be part of the hair metal gimmick that you love so much but don’t talk of who has integrity when motley has none. Janes is THE REAL DEAL!!! Deal with it!!!

ocean size | 4/18/2008, 12:15 am EST

Perry a sellout? Let’s look at the facts: tommy lee’s sad attempt at reviving his career through reality tv:
a)Tommy Lee Goes To college
B)Rock Star Supernova
C)his televised “comeback” special to promote a solo album
2) vince neil-a vhl plastic surgery show
3) nikki sixx- hour long heroin diaries promotion and interview
4) the whole band whoring themselves out on tv in a “reunion attempt” on vhl a few years ago.
5) and of course their appearances on cribs
6) and talk of a “dirt” movie
These all scream sellout!!! So get the facts straight before you make a post!! Janes is the real deal!! Deal with it!!!!

Rockstar70 | 4/18/2008, 11:14 am EST

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL???

Maybe Perry and Hank Williams Jr. can duet this year!!!

Ocean Size | 4/18/2008, 11:24 am EST

Nikki Sixx is so HOT!!

Real ocean size | 4/18/2008, 8:27 pm EST

Use your own damn name when posting! Nikki sixx sucks and apparently rockstar 70 can’t face the facts that i stated being that motley crue are sellouts. His rebuttal was pathetic. Clearly he’s ignorant about janes and motley so he’s got to repeat himself. Typical motley fan-all hair no brains. Next time post an actual rebutal

Ocean size | 4/18/2008, 8:32 pm EST

so it’s clear you don’t like perry farrell but you still haven’t told me how motley is not a sellout. I gave you eight facts proving that motley has sold out you stated no rebutal. You might want to think about what you’re going to say before posting the same message you left a day ago. Deal with it man. If you don’t like perry, no skin off of my nose but at least have some facts to backup your claims. I guess i’m proven correct again that motley is a sellout and jane’s is the real deal!!!

Ocean size | 4/18/2008, 8:34 pm EST

And people use your own names not mine. Nikki sucks just like motley crue.

ocean size | 4/18/2008, 9:26 pm EST

use your own names when making posts. Nikki has no talent. Motley has no talent. When will you learn that motley’s time is up. They’re sellouts always will be. If you do a poll now, i bet you more people will say they like janes addiction than motley. Jane’s addiction are innovators.
Motley are recyclers of past trends nothing new.

rockstar70 | 4/19/2008, 1:09 am EST

OK……..Nikki Sixx has more money, sold more records, has a more high end clothing line, has more children, has more books on the NET YORK TIMES best seller list. The Pistols have stated that they are the best punk rock ever BUT with only one million sold either some artist’s and fans are lying about having bought the record or the MYTH is ahead of the reality. This is the case with Janes’. Motley was the 15th largest money maker in 2005….AHEAD of 50cent. Janes’ can only dream of having fans like Motley’s…..WE NEVER GROW OLD AND WILL NEVER DIE!!!!

Real ocean size | 4/19/2008, 9:35 am EST

I hope VH1 has a ROCK OF LOVE III.
I would love to be on that show…Bret Michaels is so attractive and he writes good music. All you Hair band haters can BITE ME!

Rockstar70 | 4/19/2008, 9:43 am EST

Please tell me you did not waste your money on PORNO FOR PYROS,GODS GOOD URGE or SATELLITE PARTY(hell even Nuno Benntencourt left soon after this album to reform EXTREME). I would rather flush my money down the toilet than listen to that batch of crap!! Hey, good news maybe Perry will jam with EXTREME when they tour!!!

Rockstar70 | 4/19/2008, 9:48 am EST

Let’s not forget that Nikki Sixx was invited, and got to speak before congress on the dangers of drug addiction. Perry Farrell was asked to clean the bathrooms after congress let out!!

Ocean size | 4/19/2008, 11:28 am EST

I don’t listen to the songs I expirence them……MOTLEY CRUE ROCKS!!

ocean size | 4/19/2008, 3:59 pm EST

stop using my name for your posts!!!

motley who | 4/19/2008, 3:59 pm EST

There’s no denying that Jane’s Addiction is and always will be far more influential than some hair metal band from the 80’s by the name of motley crue. In case you haven’t noticed, jane’s addiction boldly chose to pave their own path when it would have been so easy to be a hair metal band in the LA Scene. They didn’t follow the crowd or seek to be MTV darlings, they brought the music up from the fringes to a whole new audience.
Nirvana and Jane’s Addiction killed your hair metal scene. Real music always gets to the people and exposes the gimmick artists like motley crue, poison, and all the other hair bands. Maybe that’s why you’re so defensive.

ocean size | 4/19/2008, 4:02 pm EST

stop using my name for you posts dirtbag. Don’t you have the guts to post your own?

ocean size | 4/19/2008, 4:04 pm EST

stop using my name for you posts. MOtley sucks deal with it. They make shitty songs and shitty albums. They are not a band that will be talked about in rock and roll history so don’t waste your breath.

Cristián from Chile!!! | 4/24/2008, 6:26 pm EST

Jane`s addiction is top of the line.
Motley is one of the bunch!!
Plus, say nikki to invent three days. would you???
jejeje.
Go Eric Avery!!!

Kwam | 4/25/2008, 1:27 am EST

Perry Farrell and Genesis P Orridge would make an intersting baby….
