“Guitar Hero: Aerosmith”: First Look at Songs, Venues, Details

4/15/08, 2:38 pm EST

Joe Perry is absolutely killing it. He burns his way through “Draw the Line” as Steven Tyler dances fluidly next to him. Suddenly, his guitar catches fire, but rather than try to put him out, the crowd merely screams louder and eggs him on as the score increases exponentially.

Of course, this is merely a scenario from Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, the latest in the multimillion-selling franchise of video games that have changed the way fans and artists can interact. Guitar Hero: Aerosmith features more than forty songs, about sixty percent of which are Aerosmith tunes. They include a healthy mix of the band’s hits (”Sweet Emotion,” “Love in an Elevator”) and deep cuts (like “Uncle Salty” and “No Surprize”). The rest of the lineup is fleshed out by bands that have played with Aerosmith over their career, including Mott the Hoople (”All the Young Dudes”) and the Kinks (”All Day and All of the Night”). Each of the venues included in the game represents a stage the band has actually played, including the high school gymnasium where they had their first gig and a stunning recreation of the long-defunct Max’s Kansas City.

The band’s fingerprints are all over Guitar Hero: Aerosmith: Steven Tyler did all of his own motion capture work (he even let them capture his facial and lip movements; the close-ups are uncannily awesome) and every guitar in the game is a digital version of an instrument the band actually uses (the Joe Perry character has a different guitar for each song in the game). Even the menu pages are based around the rooms at the band’s studio/clubhouse Vindaloo, complete with candles and Tyler’s scarves. These details will let Aerosmith junkies geek out, but newcomers can get into the hits and also get exposed to old gems like “Make It.” Expect sales of Pandora’s Box to rise shortly after Guitar Hero: Aerosmith hits stores at the end of June.

Judging from the background in this photo, it looks like they’re playing something from “Nine Lives.” I hope the title track is available.

I think I’m going to have to get this…

Nathan | 4/15/2008, 3:48 pm EST

So many good songs, but I really hope Jaded is on there. That song will be the deal breaker for me on this one.

fido | 4/15/2008, 5:08 pm EST

Ya Jaded…thats a real scorching gutair rocker

rtunes | 4/15/2008, 5:14 pm EST

Call me crazy, but for the amount of time wasted on this game, wouldn’t it be better spent actually picking up a real guitar and learning to play the songs for real?…oh wait a minute, if you played guitar for real, then you might actually get a real girlfriend…

mr.goodtimes | 4/15/2008, 6:44 pm EST

that would be awesome if it was only pre drug free days.

and playing guitar doesnt guarantee chicks, ive seen many fuck head wanna be’s shred on the axe thinking they are gnarly (ie – music store employees) when in real life they are jerk offs.

DeadHorse | 4/15/2008, 6:48 pm EST

sounds like rtunes has wii envy. Sounds like someone is still rockin’ the gamecube….:)

Anonymous | 4/15/2008, 10:39 pm EST

Hey Rtunes… why don’t you credit Bill Maher if you’re going to totally ape his “New Rules” how about you strum your emo guitar with your tears and get back to your podcast…

Dewey Finn | 4/16/2008, 1:12 am EST

Great stuff! I really hope they have a VAN HALEN version of the game one day.

Scotty | 4/17/2008, 8:52 pm EST

Jaded is a WEAK song at best, try Rats in the Cellar or Last Child, Combination, Seasons of Whither, those are guitar songs well not so much Seasons but the rest. Jaded is a percussion based song, not much guitar action in that one, and oh yeah I saw it’s debut Live on Mtv’s Aerosmith Icon show!

dappa | 4/18/2008, 7:59 am EST

please make a jimi hendrix version

casey208 | 4/19/2008, 3:09 pm EST

this is completly stupid. i know aerosmith is huge and are good at what they do but seriously? an entire game for them? wheres the metal only game, which most people that play guitar hero listen to?

alyssa13 | 4/20/2008, 8:28 pm EST

this is a responce to casey208. Im sorry to say this but omg people that play guitar hero dont only listen to metal.those of us who have BRAINS actually listen to other genres that dont envolve screaming your head off.Thank you.

MichiganPI | 4/24/2008, 8:15 pm EST

If only you retarded children had appreciation for true classic rock & roll, you would realize that Aerosmith is an ICON. No one else, other than maybe the Rolling Stones, deserves such an honor. When you children get some class and a little life experience, than your comments will be worth something. Until then, shut your crumb snatching yappers and be glad your Mommy and Daddy buy you anything!

aerosmithrulz | 4/27/2008, 8:10 pm EST

aerosmith is my favorite band i have a band and i play lead guitar and sing my guitar’s shade is of aerosmith

Aerofan | 4/30/2008, 11:18 am EST

AMEN MichiganPI

Crazy | 5/2/2008, 9:31 pm EST

I hoe the grphics are better in this game. Mabe its because of my realy old computer, or they didn’t try much at all to fix the graphics. Although, my gaming system doesn’t provide the best graphics exactly.

I hope this one is more like Rock Band as far as image and graphics go.

I also think that this game should have another guitar player, or somethig.

book a tour | 5/4/2008, 5:17 pm EST

Does anyone know if there is a U2 song in the playlist since Aerosmith are big fans?

dalton | 5/9/2008, 11:41 am EST

hey are you siked about this new game i bet it kick

natedog88 | 5/22/2008, 8:28 pm EST

sure aerosmith is good. but not everybody loves them.. there r sooo many better bands then them.. they should just keep makeing these games like 1 2 and 3.if they think they r gunna get more buyers because the game is three fourths aerosmith songs then they must be fukin insane

Ricky | 5/23/2008, 7:41 pm EST

I hope they put some AC/DC on there Aerosmith is a good band but not a lot of people like them. “You shook me all night long” and “T.N.T” would be perfect for GH especially T.N.T. I also hope they add Rolling Stones songs. Paint it black was awsome on GH3 i hope they keep it for GH:Aerosmith too.

discord666 | 5/24/2008, 8:40 am EST

HEY RICKY,
WHY WOULD THEY MAKE ONE ON AC/DC?
WOW,THAT WOULD BE FUN.SAME BEAT,SAME 3 CHORDS,SAME BAD SCREAMING ON EVERY SONG.GOOD TIMES,GOOD TIMES.

Anonymous | 5/24/2008, 3:03 pm EST

Okay now Aerosmith is the best! How old are you guys?

vaginaface | 5/24/2008, 3:38 pm EST

denton | 5/25/2008, 3:23 pm EST

on guitar hero 4 (the one with the drums comining in late 2008) they better have some classic rock on it not like frekin gh2 where there were only about 3 classics

the bomb | 5/25/2008, 9:11 pm EST

hey discord666, slayer sucks. all it is is crappy metal/death metal/whatever and all of those bands have the EXACT same drum line. all that crap like slayer, disturbed, and slipknot all suck. but by the way, AC/DC is great.

DISCORD666 | 5/26/2008, 11:44 am EST

I WONDER IF THEY WILL HAVE A VENUE WITH THE BAND IN WHEELCHAIRS?????? THAT MIGHT BE A WAY TO MAKE PEOPLE BUY THIS GARBAGE.P.S.TO THE BOMB,ITS DORKS LIKE YOU THAT KEEP GAY BANDS LIKE AC/DC ON THE MARKET.REAL TOUGH TO PLAY THAT MUSIC.PRETTY SURE ALL THE CHORDS ARE TAKEN FROM THOSE POSTERS WITH THE CHORDS ON IT YOU BUY AT WALMART!NEVER HEARD ANY 16 BEATS OUTTA THEM,HAVE YOU?

Tyranny | 5/26/2008, 2:58 pm EST

Hey “the bomb” your a fucking idiot, and you deserve a bullet in between your eyes. Slayer does not suck and neither does Metal/DM. Metal musicians are alot more talented then any bands you would ever know so dont judge other peoples music if you dont want your music being judged. BTW In my opinion Aerosmith is a good band but i would never buy a game about them.

Anonymous | 6/9/2008, 2:12 am EST

yeah i agree with someone way down there..if jaded is not on here im not gonna buy it. there isnt much guitar, but theres enough, and they could make it more challenging if they wanted to

TJ | 6/10/2008, 10:18 pm EST

u guys r tools dont u have anything better to do than this?

Anonymous Peace | 6/11/2008, 1:00 am EST

Hey Discord, don’t be such a negative nancy! AC/DC would be great to have in GH! Sure they wouldn’t have the most difficult songs but there a Rock’n band and have inspired many so you shouldn’t dis em. Oh, and stop trying to rip on everyone who suggests a band you don’t like! If you don’t like someone’s taste in music, you keep it to yourself! This also goes towards all of you that bash people for their personal opinions.

Anonymous | 7/4/2008, 12:25 pm EST

Yeah Tyranny, you wont buy a game about Aerosmith but you leave comments on the website, Wow makes for a good arguement huh?

Anonymous | 10/29/2008, 6:08 pm EST

hmm, well disturbed is a great band and whoever says they suck is pretty much retarded. aerosmith is like amazing because they can have all their songs make up one game and thats prety crazy. umm ACDC i think wil b a good game….so yea
peace

stinkbutt | 12/12/2008, 5:00 pm EST
