News Ticker: U2, Charlie Daniels, Mike Myers, Snoop Dogg

4/9/08, 3:55 pm EST

  • U2 are back in their Dublin recording studio with producers Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois, with the band telling fans “everyone [is] still hoping the new album will be out this year.” Guitarist Edge is also overseeing reissues of the albums Boy, War and October.
  • Charlie Daniels is upset that his song “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” was featured in Guitar Hero III, saying in a blog post, “I would never grant permission for some company to create a video game version of a song I wrote in which the devil wins a contest.” Daniels does not own the copyright to the song.
  • For the second time, actor Mike Myers will host the MTV Movie Awards. The show will air live from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles on June 1st.
  • JibJab, that site that brought us those animated Bush/Kerry cartoons back in ‘04, are now giving you the opportunity to put your head on Snoop Dogg’s body and vocoder your way through the “Sensual Seduction” video.

I’m interested in hearing new U2 also, the 3 reissues I think are their best stuff anyway, especially WAR.
