Festival Roundup: Bumbershoot, Virgin Calgary Announces Lineups

Another pair of summer festivals unveiled their lineups yesterday, and strangely neither included Jack Johnson. At Seattle’s three-day Bumbershoot Music & Arts Festival, to be held August 30-September 1, the headliners are Beck, the reunited Stone Temple Pilots, Lucinda Williams and Neko Case. Also on the bill are Jakob Dylan, Lee “Scratch” Perry, the Walkmen, Ingrid Michaelson and more. Tickets are on sale now for that event.

A few hundred miles northeast in Calgary, the city’s version of the Virgin Festival will feature headliners STP and the Tragically Hip, with the Flaming Lips, the New Pornographers and a parade of Canadian bands round out the bill. Tickets for that fest, which will be held June 21 and 22, go on sale Saturday. It was previously announced that the Baltimore Virgin would get the Foo Fighters, Kanye West, Nine Inch Nails and STP, while Toronto’s headliners were Oasis and Spiritualized. The lineup for Vancouver’s Virgin Festival still has yet to be announced.

Bumbershoot Music & Arts Festival will be more of snooze-fest. Yaawwwwn! Not much happening there.

The Calgary Virgin Festival lineup is such a joke. Waiting for an act like Radiohead, Jay-Z, REM or Coldplay. What do we get? The Tragically F’in Hip and STP (who probably won’t even be together come June.) C’est Terrible.

I say that festivals are crap anyway. I’d rather see a band do it’s own show. On a side note, why do promoters think that Canadians are still gushing for The Tragically Hip? Five years ago, I could have said that they were big ten years ago … they are not headliners anymore.

I’m not a promoter, but it’s been my experience that it’s pretty easy to make Candian women gush. They also like to be tied up and slapped.

are you kidding me that the hip are not a headliner? Canadians dont love them? haa they are the best band Canada ever will make and the best live band ever.

We STRONGLY agree that the Calgary line-up is a frickin’ joke!!! We want Hedley & the Black Eyed Peas!! I ask you this..has the Tragically Hip put out a new song in the last 100 years?! We want the Montreal line-up!
