Stone Temple Pilots Announce Tour, Plans For New Album; Plus Video & Photo Gallery

4/8/08, 10:42 am EST

The reunited Stone Temple Pilots announced the details of their sixty-five city summer tour yesterday at a press conference in Los Angeles. The tour, which will kick off May 17th in Columbus, Ohio, will roll on until November. If things go smoothly, guitarist Dean DeLeo predicted the band would start work on a new album, their first since 2001’s Shangri-La Dee Da. “The story’s not finished,” Scott Weiland said. “There’s more to be revealed and more to be told.” The band also revealed they would make their return to late night TV with an appearance on the Jimmy Kimmel Show on May 1st.

(Click here to see photos of the band onstage after their big announcement.)

Following the press conference, the band played a small, private half-hour show in the Hollywood Hills. It was the STP’s first live performance together in nearly six years. “Plush,” “Interstate Love Song” and “Vasoline,” were among the songs on the hits-filled setlist. A fan at the show mananged to get some crude-looking (but good-sounding) cell phone video of “Big Empty,” which you can watch after the jump. Plus, click ahead for the band’s first leg of tour dates…

I happen to like Scott Wieland and I have Idolized him since STP first appeared. I feel bad for the guy that he is an addict. I liked him in VR and I feel that he did some good work there and I hope he gets straight in STP cause he is an Awesome Singer.

He has a bi-polar disease, and i feel sorry for him.
I think Scott is a great singer, and i think that VT is a joke,STP is bettter

If that renodavid guy is from reno, pack your crap and get out. Reno is for real men who like real bands not your lame world peace slight. go pound back some beers and head to the Cal-neva you lame fool. go live in SF

RenoDavid | 4/12/2008, 10:55 am EST

Oh, and by the way, that’s a small and private show? I was envisioning them in somebody’s living room. Look at the size of that crowd!! Not to mention all the lighting and huge sound system. Must be nice to have a full concert facility in your backyard. :-P

RenoDavid | 4/12/2008, 10:45 am EST

OK, people, stop the hating RIGHT NOW! And that goes for the rest of the world too! (Gawd, I’m so glad I finally got around to bringing about world peace.)

Vancouver | 4/11/2008, 12:49 pm EST

Been a fan for years, very cautious, though. Heard reports that Weiland was a bit “sketchy” in some of final shows with VR. I am in recovery, and bi-polar. Scott definitely does not seem to be in recovery, and admittedly does not treat his bi-polar disorder. Based on his behaviour and comments about VR, he seems to be the same selfish, self-centered little boy. No one has ever truly held him accountable, so what does anyone expect? I pray for the guy and his family and friends, cause things do not look good.

thomas | 4/10/2008, 5:39 am EST

Finally..he dropped that VR goofiness. Now we get to rockout!
Let it be known…it was others in VR that had relapses..not Scott. You’d know that if you read articles in this very magazine.

Go STP Go!

“the only seattle date is at bumbershoot? damn! not exactly what i was hoping for. might have to go to canada…”

Thanks for the update on your iternerary. We’re all relieved you that you have come to a decision. We were worried for you.

arch stanton | 4/10/2008, 1:41 am EST

Weiland has no class. Iam glad the band can make some money off him one last time at least. His sebastian bach comments were lame and desperate. At least bach never beat on his wife. Slash and Duff are better off. He will slip and give all true recovery folks a bad name. Give it up Scott we see right through ya.

Kurt's Corpse | 4/9/2008, 12:42 pm EST

This tour will be an abysmal failure, just like Weiland’s life….

bob pridden | 4/9/2008, 11:09 am EST

Green? | 4/9/2008, 10:31 am EST

Does it make any sense that they start in Columbus, THEN head to NJ before heading back to Cleveland? Columbus and Cleveland are a TWO HOUR drive from one another. The dates are rife with other stupid planning. So much for GREEN.

Anonymous | 4/8/2008, 11:23 pm EST

GOING!

boga888 | 4/8/2008, 6:59 pm EST

Scott will be back in rehab way before this tour ends. Guaranteed! The guy is a great vocalist but can’t get his shit straightened out. It’s great that STP is back together though, for now….

Rtunes | 4/8/2008, 4:16 pm EST

Prediction: Part-way through their very successful tour, they will take an unscheduled break so that Scott Weiland’s doctors can run a comprehensive battery of tests to determine the best reme-…oh, I’m sorry. I’ve got Weiland confused with Ed Van Halen.

“august 31st, I will be stoned out of my mind listening to some awesome music.”

They cancelled the Seattle date because they knew you were going to be there.

Hot Water Music | 4/8/2008, 4:02 pm EST

Congatulations to Scott.

He’s getting his priorities straight.

He knows fucking up STP has more substance to it than fucking up Velvet Revolver.

cheryl | 4/8/2008, 1:24 pm EST

Terrific News !!! I just hope Scott can pull his socks up and make the concert dates!! Rock On !!

Swingline | 4/8/2008, 12:43 pm EST

Hope they show better on the road than that performance.
Maybe they should have done like the New Kids and just come out and waived.

Los | 4/8/2008, 12:35 pm EST

Damn, that was quick. Thanks for the dates & venues, RS.

Dan | 4/8/2008, 12:29 pm EST

God I hate Scott Weiland

Angeles | 4/8/2008, 11:42 am EST

Scott’s back where he should be. He’s far better suited for STP than VR. I hope he’s successful in STP.

Los | 4/8/2008, 11:05 am EST

Uhh… Dates & venues, please?? Some ‘details.’
