4/7/08, 4:10 pm EST

In the current issue of Rolling Stone, Dave Matthews speaks about his endorsement of Barack Obama and what the role of musicians can be in this important election process. “Musicians, although maybe some don’t believe it, are also citizens. We all have the right to say what we think and use whatever power we have to say it,” says Matthews. For an expanded version of the interview, click here.

Who cares what Dave Matthews thinks?

Anonymous | 4/7/2008, 4:31 pm EST

I care. He speaks from experience and has a real grasp of the things that change the world. Who cares what anybody thinks right? What do YOU think is all that matters.

Eric Con Queso | 4/7/2008, 6:50 pm EST

I care as well. It’s very important to listen to what the rich and famous have to say with respect to who to vote for. I don’t think I’d be able to make my mind up otherwise.

Shut Up And Sing Dave Matthews.

Anonymous | 4/7/2008, 10:56 pm EST

Shut-up and quit pushing your political views. We want to hear you sing and not push your agenda!

“I care. He speaks from experience and has a real grasp of the things that change the world.”

Does he now? Judging from his pathetic shit music, the only thing he’s got a grasp on is his dick.

Hot Water Music | 4/8/2008, 3:31 am EST

“Musicians, although maybe some don’t believe it, are also citizens.”

Fuck you, Dave, you self- important pretentious jagoff.

FatherTime | 4/8/2008, 8:43 am EST

It’s interesting how the first comments to this story bash Dave for speaking his mind. Aren’t the posters speaking their minds, too? Admit it…if you all had the opportunity to speak your mind to millions of people with the chance that someone might listen to what you have to say, you would speak out. Instead, you come to a little , out-of-the-way comment board to rant. Nobody is forcing you to read the interview. No one is forcing you to listen to Dave Matthews Band. No one is forcing you to think. Deciding what to think is up to you. That’s what makes this country great.

Anonymous | 4/8/2008, 11:07 am EST

amazing how many snobby people can’t get past their preconceived notions about dave matthews to just listen to him with an open mind… he’s obviously intelligent.

The "D" | 4/8/2008, 11:09 am EST

You have the right to care or not care, as Dave has the right to voice his opinions as you have on this forum. Unless all of you tools that are crying about him speaking out are congressmen or senators than you’re all hypocrites. People aren’t going to make their political decisions based on what “the rich and famous” tell them Con Queso, but they have every right that you and I do to have an opinion.

No I’d play my guitar and shut the fuck up. People who are celebrities generally feel as though they’re “enlightened” and they’re appointed by the heavens to explain to the unenlightened average people what to think.

He’s a jerkoff with a guitar. He got the right connections and got a record deal. That’s it.

There are people who are 1,000 times more talented and more intelligent and enlightened who are toiling away in anonynimity.

Fuck Dave and self-righteous shit.

Also, he has one of those faces that people just wanna fuckin’ punch!

And his music is dogshit.

Dave | 4/9/2008, 7:37 am EST

Some of these comments are just laughable. A musician/celebrity is asked his opinion on a political topic, he answers, and gets bashed for his answer.

It’s clear that those who are upset about this are upset about WHAT he said, not about him expressing his opinion.

Quit hiding behind the “who cares what a celebrity thinks” dodge and just admit that your criticism is politically motivated.

“Some of these comments are just laughable. A musician/celebrity is asked his opinion on a political topic, he answers, and gets bashed for his answer.”

No it’s because these people suffer from God complexes and feel they need to feel to tell the average folk what to think. Dave Matthews is not Ghandi, he’s not even Doctor Phil. So he should get off his high horse and just pull the curtain shut and fuckin’ vote like the rest of us morons who Dave Matthews feels he needs to enlighten.

And there’s lots of reasons to bash this guy not just because he made his choice know, but because his world is an illusion.

People who work in offices don’t constantly get blowjobs for what they do, they don’t live in mansions and they don’t have every whim satisfied by simply writing a check.

He doesn’t live in the real world and we that do don’t need to be told what to think. He’s a dude with a record contract who spun off a couple of hits with his elevator rock.

He believes he’s important but he’s a guy who’s grossly overpaid for playing a guitar.

If “Dave” is DAVE-which I seriously doubt, but if it is-you sure have thin skin!

Dave | 4/10/2008, 7:40 am EST

FireWoman: Dave is a common first name. Didn’t mean to imply that I was Mr. Matthews.

Fire Woman | 4/10/2008, 8:08 pm EST

Then you, not Dave Matthews, are the one with the thin skin. My mistake.

WaccamawLover | 4/12/2008, 1:20 am EST

Who’s to say he’s wrong? I am a believer but I also like Dave Matthews and think his POV is relative and worthy of consideration.

Manticyde | 4/12/2008, 1:41 pm EST

I see some of you are ethical absolutists and have a set way of thinking that Dave Matthews is a d-bag and has no place in speaking his mind. I also note that there are a few ethical relativists who think that we have no right to criticize him because he is in a totally different “celebrity” plain of existence and he needs to be left alone. Well I view myself as more of a pluralist and fight for the middle ground. I don’t like Dave Matthews’ music, don’t know him so I don’t know if he is a d-bag, but I still think he should have the right to speak his mind. All of you who think that he shouldn’t speak up just because he’s a celebrity are just plain ignorant. Celebrities speak up because they can. I want to see some of you get on live TV and speak you Point of view. I might be inclined to listen to Dave Matthews, because I tend to believe in the fight for Obama. Damn right I’m biased there, but every single person is. Where there are people there are bias, where there is smoke there is fire, where there is Obama there is hope! Stop bickering over how much of a d-bag Dave is. Who cares? That doesn’t mean he’s not on the right bandwagon. Thank you all.

I’ll also note that some people have ether tanks in their livingrooms and pass around the mask during dinner parties.

“Logic” of your kind comes from people of that particular bent.

Another Musician for Obama | 8/13/2008, 4:10 am EST

Sad there are some inarticulate, angry people who are hiding behind their racist cloaks or should I say pointy heads.

Just you wait….everyone….Music is going to seize the world by the soul once again. Phoenix will rise and bring Peace, no haters, no violence, no racism, no sexism, no more abuse towards each other…..

The world is diverse and until you see that we need a “person of color” to cross those International, environmental and domestic divides…we are all in deep DOO DOO!

The world needs a person in office who actually cares to mend bridges that were broken, to stop the environmental onslaught of pesticides, oil and chemical waste.

The US needs a miracle to heal us all from our broken hearts and spirits for the last 8 years.

Haters….you are forgiven…Karma is waiting to make a payback to those good and bad!

May we see the healing miracle of CHANGE come to wake us all up to our need to EVOLVE not DEVOLVE which many seem to cling desperately to.

DON’T BE AFRAID OF CHANGE!
CHANGE IS COMING BY THE GRACE OF THE HIGHEST POWERS….

PEACE OUT TO EVERYONE!

well goodness gracious. there is plenty of cock envy around here. what a bunch of jealous, self-righteous big L’s (and i aint talkin about cool J as ye would say) around here. hows about this? the first amendment. ever hear of that? you don’t like what he has to say, don’t listen -SIMPLE. the reality is, dave writes and preforms very deep music, with a lot of thought and love put into it. his candidate reflects his style. me personally? its a no brainer and i voted for obama as well. not because anyone told me to, i used to support republican candidates. but its not the party that matters its the message. i bet 95% of the people that posted against dave on this forum didn’t even read the article. pathetic. oh and by the way, who won by a landslide? oh, yeah. so go back to blogging your rhetoric. better luck in ‘12, you clownshoes.
