Kristy Lee Cook made yet another trip to the bottom three on American Idol last night, cheekily bringing along a note indicating she knew her seat wouldn’t be on the couch of safety, but the stools of doom. But with Dolly Parton, The Next Great American Band’s Clark Brothers and former Idol finalist Bucky Covington in the house, the spirit of country music carried her through (or something), and it was petite Ramiele Malubay who was sent packing for a version of Parton’s “Do I Ever Cross Your Mind” that Simon Cowell had called cute, forgettable and “very reminiscent of something you would see and hear on a cruise ship” (the equivalent of Project Runway judge Michael Kors’ scornful MOB, or “mother of the bride”). Malubay wept through her farewell performance, surrounded by Brooke White, who was also up for dismissal for her straightforward take on White Stripes favorite “Jolene,” and the safe-for-the-night Carly Smithson, who took Cowell to task for his harsh wardrobe tips. Next week’s elimination show will be delayed by one night as the star-packed Idol Gives Back charity special airs on Wednesday.
