Scott Weiland Responds to Velvet Revolver’s Overthrow, Recommends Sebastian Bach

4/2/08, 12:23 pm EST

Scott Weiland has issued a scathing statement in response to yesterday’s non-April Fool’s Joke that Velvet Revolver would continue on without its singer’s services. “I find it humorous that the so called four ‘founding members’ of Velvet Revolver would decide to move on without me after I had already claimed the group dead in the water on March 20 in Glasgow,” Weiland said.

Weiland went on to remind everyone that he’s reuniting with Stone Temple Pilots, saying “I choose to look forward to the future and performing with a group of friends I have known my entire life. This also speaks to my commitment to the fans who I feel would much rather watch a group of musicians who enjoy being together as opposed to a handful of discontents who at one time used to call themselves a gang.” In one last parting shot, Weiland comments on the band’s upcoming search for a new lead singer. “Good hunting lads, I think Sebastian Bach would be a fantastic choice.” We personally cast a vote for Axl Rose, but that doesn’t seem likely.

But maybe Sebastian Bach will be a great choice, it will be lots of energy to the band, it will “back to the roots” (80’s that is) or search for one of those 80’s singers and try to make it sound NEW, my list goes for:
1. Sebastian Bach
2. The dude from White Lion (Tramp)
3. Scott soto (ex yngwie)

The Gary Cherone thing was a joke just in case …..

dude | 4/14/2009, 1:34 pm EST

OR YOU CAN ALWAYS GET GARY CHERONNE, LOL IS NOT GUNS N ROSES 3 (AS VHALEN3) BUT … ACTUALLY SOME PEOPLE HERE ARE DEAD RIGHT, VELVET IS NOT A GOOD BAND, WE ALL ARE TRYING TO THINK THAT WAY, BUT HONESTLY THEY ONLY HAD 2 OR 3 GREAT SONGS, AND LOTS OF BORING MATERIAL, IS A NOSTALGIA SUPERGROUP THING, WE ALL ARE WAITING AND HOPE FOR ANOTHER GUNS AND ROSES CALIBER BAND … BUT HEY VR WASN’T IT WAS ALL AN ILUSION !!

dude | 4/14/2009, 1:30 pm EST

GET VANILLA ICE, HE CAN RAP METAL FOR VELVET, LOL, AT LEAST IT WONT BE AS BORING AS THE LAST ALBUM

Steve | 1/13/2009, 5:42 am EST

Axl is a meglomaniac. His vocals suck live. The only reason he sounds good on a record is because of Pro Tools. Sabastian Bach on the other hand sounds the same live as he does on record. I hate Chris Cornell’s voice. He was good in Soundgarden, especially their early stuff and I liked him on Temple of Dog, but other than that, he sucks. I’d like to see Sammy Hagar in VR, but that wil never happen. Sammy has a pretty good gig going with his band, the Waboritas as well as The Other Half. Sammy is happy where is at and has no reason to change.

Honestly, when Velvet Revolver was formed, I was surprised to not see Izzy Stradlin in the lineup. He is a good songwriter, a good rhythm guitar player, and a good singer for certain types of songs. He wrote and sings the songs that sound like the Rolling Stones on the Illusions albums. His recent solo material is pretty good. Different, but good. I also know that Izzy doesn’t like touring, so that’s probably why he isn’t in VR. I also thought that if Izzy wasn’t in VR, then Gilby Clark would be. I don’t care for his vocal, but he is a decent rhythm guitar player and a decent song writer. He is also on time, has no problems going to rehearsels, and is a good guy. I like a lot of his solo material.

I just don’t get Dave in VR. For the longest time I was like, who the hell is this?

I’d love to be VR’s new lead singer, but then again, there are thousands of other people that want the same thing.

Zakk Zander | 8/21/2008, 6:08 pm EST

Toby…..what the f*ck! Sebastian Bach is a symbol of rock n’ roll/metal and has been for 20+ years - back in the day nobody could beat his natural range and tonality - and he still rocks today - years on.

So do yourself a favour; shut the hell up and learn what the youth gone wild is all about muthatruckka!

i saw the mighty VR in the uk just before their split and they totally rocked - total electric atmosphere - Scott made a fantastic frontman (puttling his personal troubles aside) it’s such a shame they’ve split but can only look forward to what comes next. Having seen VR many times now, i think they have definitely earned their status as a great new rockband and both albums definitely rock!

I think Bach would be awesome with VR. I too would love a GNR reunion, but I don’t think that is going to happen after reading Slashs book. Scott obviously has alot of issues going on that needs to be resolved.

sue | 4/6/2008, 9:29 pm EST

Good look to them all. If there is tension among the v.r. members and Scott then its right for him to split. Why drag it out which would only make things worse. I think Scott has proved to be an asset to v.r. but if there are personality clashes, it makes for a very uncomfortable, stressful and unhappy existence. They are all talented musicians and should not waste any time. I would love to see stone temple pilots get together and Im sure v.r. would have no problem finding a new singer who would be great. Lets see two new happy bands emerge from this mess. Its surely got to be good for all concerned, and the fans. Sue.

best time for GNR to reunite! and VR …. :) 90% of the songs sucks! BIG time!!! plz plz plz Slash! reunite GnR!! everyone is waiting for that i think not even Sebastian Bach can do the job that Axl did …. many ppl want old GnR … Scott is,was and will be the same i.e !LAME!

lsg | 4/5/2008, 11:49 pm EST

my hopes:

1 - sebastian bach
2 - chris cornell
3 - jhon corabi

Randell | 4/5/2008, 8:44 pm EST

GNR
VR
STP ….

What a big pile of shit they ALL MAKE.

Lynne | 4/5/2008, 10:17 am EST

Meow. Scott sounds like a disgruntled teenage girl. And looks really goofy too.

captain40 | 4/4/2008, 10:12 pm EST

i was disappointed with both contraband and libertad. they’re all great musicians, but somehow it just didn’t click completely. the music was sloppy and scott’s lyrics were uncreative. the original gnr needs to put their bullshit aside and reunite and stp’s reunion seems destined to fail horribly.

Nathan | 4/3/2008, 6:55 pm EST

Toto got their lead vocalist back 10 years ago after going through 4 others. So maybe their is hope for GnR too. And maybe STP will take their time and put out a new release that stacks up to their original run of material. awesome.

They R Terrible. | 4/3/2008, 4:33 pm EST

There are so many great bands people… we need that boring band like we need another Starbucks.
C’mon…you can’t tell me that Velvet Revolver are good. You’re just kidding yourselves. LISTEN TO THE TUNES.
Boring Boring and more Boring.
(no wonder people give up and go play Rock Band.)
Slash get busy and challenge yourself and MAYBE you can still write a rockin batch of tunes, but I won’t hold my breath. Scott Weiland is one of the least deserving “rockstars” ever.
Sheeple suck.

JohnnyD | 4/3/2008, 3:07 pm EST

BILLY IDOL! BILLY IDOL!

Terrance | 4/3/2008, 7:54 am EST

Hope they announce the new singer quickly. I think they probably have someone in mind already.

nawaf albardooli | 4/3/2008, 6:46 am EST

last month VR were part of the bill for Desert Rock in dubai but i didnt go, this is the 1st year that i dont attend a gig that will have one of my all time fav guitar player (SLASH), i went all the way from Bahrain to Scotland back in 2006 just to watch LORDI and MOTORHEAD i dont care how long do i stay on an airplane, anyway i knew that VR with the bitch on vocals wont be a cool band and the gig was a failure that bitch singer was aint that much, and now i read that he wants to be with his old palz if they are your palz then WHY did you leave them? all the best of luck and wishs to VR (sebastian bach rules)

Oz | 4/3/2008, 2:22 am EST

VR was not going to last. Supergroups never really do, they’re always fillers between breakups and reunions. Except maybe for gnr and soundgarden.

yeahboy | 4/2/2008, 7:51 pm EST

STP lives on!!!

cjgla | 4/2/2008, 7:11 pm EST

taken from the flick Sid and Nancy…”NEVER TRUST A JUNKIE.” STP split 4 the same reasons as VR. maybe SCOTT should put out another AMAZING solo album. lol! such an AMAZING frontman/musician. “WHAT A WASTE”

Slash | 4/2/2008, 6:53 pm EST

Maybe I’ll call my friend Michael Jackson to sing…or Mark Wahlberg’s character from the movie “Rock Star”…STP-That’s more like short for Spinal Tap, who they’ve become…yawn

theseeker | 4/2/2008, 6:50 pm EST

Where has all the love for STP Wieland all of a sudden has been for what, ten years now? We missed many years of good music from them because of his dumb ass. I predict his reunion with them gets F**ked up because of his selfish stupidity. For my self Axl and Scott are cut from the same asshole tree!

Bill | 4/2/2008, 6:41 pm EST

Weiland? STP? Who? Like Matt said in an interview last year “The world aint exactly clamoring for an STP reunion”. This would be perfect time for GnR to reunite and just bury the STPers. Lame band with maybe 1 decent song.

made of stone | 4/2/2008, 6:04 pm EST

If only VR and GNR and STP would do a group hug, then they could be
VRGNSTPR, that would be so coooool and I could live the rest of my days in a perpetual state of ecstacy!! Rock is irrelevant and anyone who doesn’t get that just aint paying attention. Slash, Scotty, Axl, sleepy, grumpy etc.-why should we care anymore? You want my attention and dollars? EARN IT!

m. mc | 4/2/2008, 5:17 pm EST

Saw VR in Chicago-yawn. I’m so sick of that LA/SD worship
bulls%*&. I think both bands can drop off the face of the earth. Weiland is overrated and lacks a voice and Slash just looks tired with his belly hanging over his leather pants. His solo’s could be phoned in at this point. Pretty sad this passes for rock n roll these days. Rock is dead!

Anonymous | 4/2/2008, 5:11 pm EST

I liked the band…it sucks that scott couldn’t keep his shit together but whatever..stp will be good live but i don’t think i would look forward to a new vr record without scott but who knows that guy from buckcherry has my lead vote for new vocalist

Genie in a Bottle | 4/2/2008, 4:59 pm EST

Why does everyone keep mentioning Cornell..? Can’t you see, he is busy collaborating with Timberland on his 3rd solo album, tentatively titled, “sellout”…. What VR should do is recruit Whitfield Crane from Ugly Kid Joe fame, now that guy can sing…..

artificialred | 4/2/2008, 4:47 pm EST

These guys will never be anything without Weiland, let them get Axl back and they can play all of their outdated GnR crap, that I personally can do without! Speaking of which, I can do without Axl too, forever!!!

SimpleMinds | 4/2/2008, 4:39 pm EST

Bottom line…….

CHINESE DEMOCRACY STARTS NOW.

Meecho Meecho | 4/2/2008, 4:29 pm EST

Good riddance to Scott. I went to a VR show here in Michigan and Scott Weiland was drinking on stage and went on to spit beer onto the audience members and also let out a huge fart into the microphone. He was picking his nose too and kept grabbing his crotch like he wanted to jerk off or something. And he didn’t even want to do an encore song until everyone was screaming as loud as they can saying “C’mon I can’t hear you”. When VR did come back out he spit out more beer at the audience and starting rubbing the mic onto his crotch. Man what a pig.

Swingline | 4/2/2008, 4:23 pm EST

If they want to make VR last, they should get an unknown as a lead singer. Those other guys mentioned would be good, but they all would come with expectations that are never fair and always hard to live up to.
Slash, Duff and co. have enough fans of their music that if they came out with a nobody that they put their trust into as a lead, I think most people would give it a fair listen.
And yes, count me in for the Human League, hahaha

90's are dead 80's are back! | 4/2/2008, 4:12 pm EST

Does any one wants to see STP reunited? Who cares, i rather see The Human League…

larry the lyncher | 4/2/2008, 4:04 pm EST

what about Paul Rodgers?

Meags | 4/2/2008, 3:51 pm EST

I totally agree, the STP thing is not going to last. I went to the Iowa show of Velvet Revolver, and Scott showed up 45 minutes late. VR finally went on without him and Duff filled in on vocals until Scott showed up. Not very professional, man.

AK Radio Guy | 4/2/2008, 3:50 pm EST

This whole thing smells of Scott Weiland’s inability to hold much of anything together.Velvet Revolver was (and probably will be)
fine with or without him..VR is Slash’s group and they will be fine.Sebastian Bach?ummm no. Axl? Maybe.Sammy Hagar? nah.Cornell? maybe.it will certainly be interesting to see how it all plays out

Defender of the Faith | 4/2/2008, 3:48 pm EST

Guns and Roses is one of my all time favorite bands and STP was up there as well. I really wanted this marriage to work and for a short time it did. I saw VR live twice and both times they put on one of the best rock shows around. Truthfully, though, Weiland is not that strong vocally or lyrically. On Libertad, his voice was often drowned out. I am not sure if it was bad production, but he still sounded weak.

I also think that for some reason Libertad was not marketed at all. Yes, the whole industry is down in sales numbers, but they were not on the late night shows, did not market singles in any unique ways as other artists are (Guitar Hero, Itunes, other services etc.), hardly any articles and little commercial promos for their short US tour.

I think that a stronger singer and perhaps not even a well known singer would be better. Obviously Chris Cornell or Sebastian Bach would be great, but that would probably be sshort lived as well.

What we all really want is a full blow GNR reunion with AXL, bottom line.

brian | 4/2/2008, 2:49 pm EST

slash, call me…

Izzy | 4/2/2008, 2:16 pm EST

Whoever said izzy….amen to that, unlike miss weiland he’s a true musician, his solo albums are excellent. I’d like to see axl back in the fold but not doing some greatest hits tour but rather putting out an album and touring on that. There is to much talent being wasted if they don’t

mykl | 4/2/2008, 2:15 pm EST

I find it interesting he is sober or some what sober with VR, news breaks of an STP reunion and low and behold he is in a rehab…

Weiland needs to realize that while STP rocks and such, odds are that synergy/band/whatever isn’t good for his health.

And bottom line with VR, how long could a group like that last? I hope they get a kick ass singer and songwriter and make a great time of it… by all means yes Cornell, pick up up the f-ing phone… but bottom line is VR will suffer the same fate as GNR… just too many egos need to be stroked. If they could just find a way like the Stones did to pull together for the fans, and for the music that would be great (don’t be the Stones all the way and do it for the paycheck).

I for one saw VR a few times, and most importantly THE first time in Philly on tour and it was great. Too bad it ended like this, but I say thanks for some great rock n roll.

SB | 4/2/2008, 2:15 pm EST

what about lukas rossi of rockstar supernova fame… that would be an interesting fit. good frontman and musician with talent…

SB | 4/2/2008, 2:11 pm EST

while he’s a talented musician he has issues…first stp breaks up, except the rest of the band stays together and makes music. then VR is staying together, minus weiland. Pretty obvious who the problem is…..

K.A.G.e | 4/2/2008, 2:05 pm EST

Any one else think VR should go find out if Chris Cornell is free…I’m pretty sure he’s not doing anything of major importance right now

oU812 | 4/2/2008, 1:37 pm EST

LOOKS LIKE SCOTT GOT HIS FEELINGS HURT AND HAD TO LASH OUT. WOULD HE HAVE THOUGHT THE SAME OF SLASH, DUFF AND ALL IF THEY KEPT HIM IN? STP WERE GOOD. SCOTT MAD THE BAND BUT I DON’T SEE THAT LASTING. HE WILL TRASH AND BURN BADLY AND BE ANOHTER STATISTIC IN HEAVEN….SORRY TO SAY IT BUT HE HAS BEEN LIVING WAY TO FAR OUT ON THE EDGE AND HE DEFINATELY ISN’T ANOTHER KEITH RICHARDS…..

Swingline | 4/2/2008, 1:27 pm EST

Guns and Roses own STP

Swingline | 4/2/2008, 1:26 pm EST

Who cares if the people on stage are friends?
The Who were at their best when they were a functional/dysfunctional group that enjoyed trying to show up each other during their performances.
Likewise, GnR was fun because they were dangerous and unpredictable, I’m sure nobody at the time cared whether they were friends.
But the unpredictability has to function with a common cause-the music.
Weiland unfortunately has shown he cares more about being a rock star than a musician, and it seems like it’ll follow him wherever he goes…

Bach | 4/2/2008, 1:19 pm EST

Scott’s comment about Sebastian Bach cracked me up… I could tell something was up when I saw them in Mobile, AL. They were late starting and I could see Slash speaking to a backstage guy for 10 minutes… I can’t wait for STP this summer. I hope they can survive the summer without too much drama, and hopefully after a successful tour they will make another album.

RockGod | 4/2/2008, 1:17 pm EST

Scott Weiland is a great front man but his bi-polarism is very apparent with his erratic behaviour. The sarcastic and unprofessional remarks are perfect examples of unbalanced behaviour. If he honest felt this way, then why did he drag this gig on for so long? And their is no reason for him to make a sarastic remark about Sebastian Bach, that guy is a roll model and a respectable musician that at least shows professionalism just like another guy by the name of Axl Rose. Weiland has serious mental issues.

demiourgos | 4/2/2008, 1:13 pm EST

izzy…

yo | 4/2/2008, 1:10 pm EST

i think chris robinson would fit well with VR. not really diggin the new Crowe’s album, anyway

GnR for life! | 4/2/2008, 1:10 pm EST

I saw V. Revolver at their Milwaukee show, Weiland showed up 2 hours late and smashed…although he did put on one hell of a show I can see why the guys would want to get away from that. They’ve all grown up and moved past that sh*t. Bach’s voice sucks, Axl is the only reason his new song is getting play.

stuporfly | 4/2/2008, 12:58 pm EST

How many days into the STP tour do you think it’ll be before the DeLeo brothers are on the horn with Slash begging him to take the useless fucker back?

a former Weiland fan | 4/2/2008, 12:57 pm EST

Weiland is such a prima-donna. He is a bipolar junkie who can’t make up his mind what band to be in. STP originally broke up because of him, and now Velvet Revolver. I am a STP fan, but I am not supporting this reunion because it’s not going to last. Just looking at Weiland’s track record (not the tracks on his arm) that’s just an obvious truth. I never liked Velvet Revolver, but I’m definitely on Slash and Duff’s side on this one.

toby | 4/2/2008, 12:54 pm EST

not Sebastian Bach he’s not very rock and roll, someone like the singer of The Kings of Leon…
