Single Minded: The Black Keys, R.E.M., Moby, Van Morrison

4/1/08, 12:21 pm EST

Every Tuesday Single Minded highlights new tracks hitting stores (or the Web) this week. On Fridays, come back for rarities, remixes, mash-ups and more.

The Black Keys, “Strange Times” [MySpace]
Let’s make this official: Danger Mouse should produce everything, as anybody who can cook up the new Gnarls Barkley record and this spacey blast of garage rock can do no wrong. Somebody needs to slip Ashlee Simpson’s number to DM stat.

R.E.M., “Hollow Man” [iLike]
Michael Stipe said the title of R.E.M.’s new album Accelerate references the fact that the songs are fast and were recorded fast. By this logic, shouldn’t their last album have been called Pull Over By the Side of the Road So I Can Nap?

Moby, “Everyday It’s 1989″ [MySpace]
The song is great, but constantly reliving 1989 would be no picnic — after all, we’d have to freshly experience the horror of Jonathan Silverman’s career.

Van Morrison, “Lover Come Back” [MySpace]
The venerable soul singer’s latest slab of excellence is called Keep It Simple, though we dare you not to add the word Stupid to the end of it.

No Use For A Name, “I Want To Be Wrong” [MySpace]
Spring must be upon us, because peppy pop punk is starting to sound good again. Toss on your board shorts and bounce around the room in celebration of the return of baseball and hay fever.
