Radiohead Launch “Nude” Remix Contest

4/1/08, 10:35 am EST

Radiohead is marking the release of “Nude,” their second single off In Rainbows, with a remix contest. Fans are given the opportunity to buy the isolated tracks (vocals, drums, etc.) from “Nude” and create a remix of their own, which can then be uploaded onto Radioheadremix.com. The stems are available on iTunes now. After uploading your remix, listeners and users of Facebook and MySpace will vote on the remixes they like the most. There’s no prizes involved, but “Radiohead will listen to the best remixes.” There is a rub, however: The five “Nude” stems cost ninety-nine cents each on iTunes. This new contest comes two weeks after the band announced they would also host a video competition.

yeah but maybe they make a sampler with the best remixes, and its a good chance for not that well-known artist to promote their music

Aren’t you supposed to win something when you enter a contest? There is no prize being offered for this lame “remix” thing! Why bother wasting your time on it.

Wallace | 4/6/2008, 1:36 am EST

Get serious…if you don’t like the idea, you don’t have to buy it. It’s as simple as that. If you really wanted to remix the music you would pay the 5 bucks for it. It is THEIR music and they do what they choose with it. You think the owners of McDonalds just pay people to make burgers so that people can eat them for free? No, that is how they make a living, as is the case with Radiohead. Get a life.

Radioshit | 4/2/2008, 6:07 pm EST

How stupid is this…they seem kind of desperate to me. Charging money for samples that can ONLY be used in the remix…jesus. Even not offering the winner anyting LOL. I could have done a great remix of this song (a lot better than the original) but If they are going to keep all the rights themselves, I am happy to work on my own stuff. Byyyye…

Why does Radiohead release “stem tracks” for a buck a piece? If they were really interested in giving their fans the pleasure of remixing one of their songs why the charge? Trent Reznor has released whole Nine Inch Nails albums to remix for free and continues to do so. My suggestion is to head on over to nin.com and check out someone who’s doing this right.

I’m very surprised at this money move. Shame on you Radiohead.

the record label is responsible for this shit, not Radiohead…

Eric Con Queso | 4/1/2008, 7:19 pm EST

I’m sure everything “Jack” does is original—he sounds classy and forgettable.

Radiohead may not be the first to do this, but at least they are allowing fans to have some fun with their music. Stop hating and focus your attention on something else (like the guy who likes Miley Cyrus–GROSS).

I Think This Nude Thing Is Soooooo Damn Lame It Makes Me Wanna Search Kim Kardashian And Do My Nude Piece!

Which Now That I Think Of It!,Is So Wrong On So Many Levels And Sounds Like A Good Reason To Puke!,Kudos To You Tom Bjork!

why all the hate? i don’t understand why in music everyone has to be so critical, i mean the various parts of the song are intellectual property created by the band, why not sell them the for money? Personally, i think Radiohead is one of the best bands of this generation, so i do not feel bad at all giving them money for all of their hard work in the studio making actual ALBUMS, a concept that is unfortunately being completely destroyed in this MP3 era. and on a side note:Thank god for the Raconteurs!(i hope they never break up)

wah? | 4/1/2008, 3:48 pm EST

yes
Radiohead happens to be my favorite band and always will but, paying 5 bucks to download stem tracks just to remix the song.
Come on you gotta be joking

Jack | 4/1/2008, 3:00 pm EST

this.. this sounds almost familiar.. i think some guy did this two or three years ago, and is still trying it. even wound up putting one on an official remix album.

all for free because he was actually interested in the process.

forget his name though.. huh.. all i remember are the letters “n” “i” and “n”.

I hate Radiohead- I really do.

Phillip | 4/1/2008, 1:18 pm EST

The money they didn’t make on the digital release?! They made more money from the digital release than they made from all of their previous physical CD sales combined.

Jonah | 4/1/2008, 12:12 pm EST

“Radiohead will listen to the best remixes.” when someone else deems them worthy? Anyone else smell the irony in that? I love Radiohead, but this does feel kind of like a scheme to recoup some of the money lost on the digital release of In Rainbows.

Jonah | 4/1/2008, 12:09 pm EST

I love Radiohead, and I really do love In Rainbows, but this does seem a bit like a scheme to recover some of the money they didn’t make off of the digital release of In Rainbows…
“Radiohead will listen to the best remixes.”
Wow, doesn’t that just get you all kinds of excited? You mean they’ll actually “listen” to it if someone else deems it worthy? Does anyone else see the irony in this? Sorry Radiohead, thanks but no thanks.

Andy | 4/1/2008, 11:28 am EST

Radiohead is boring now.

Chris | 4/1/2008, 11:06 am EST

This is ironic since Radiohead has probably remixed and re-composed “Nude” ten times since they wrote in during the OK Computer era.
