April Fool’s Ticker: The Day in Gags

  • The programmers over at YouTube took advantage of the “Rick Rolling” meme (where links are redirected to Rick Astley’s video for the cheesey Eighties hit “Never Gonna Give You Up”) by throwing the curveball on each of their “Featured Videos” today.
  • Death Cab For Cutie’s Ben Gibbard announced the formation of a side project called Just Jazzin’. According to its MySpace page, the fake group involves Gibbard randomly hitting a vibraphone.
  • Several radio DJs in New Zealand announced that Foo Fighters would play a free acoustic show at their station. They expected only a handful of people to show up (the plan was to walk on stage and play some Foos tunes on a boom box), but the joke went awry when thousands of fans skipped work and descended on the station’s headquarters expecting a show.
  • In an extremely English prank, NME reported that Amy Winehouse would star in an upcoming episode of BBC favorite Dr. Who.
  • And just in case you were wondering, that story about Weezer’s album title is absolutely true.
