Rolling Stone Review: The Raconteurs’ “Consolers of the Lonely”

3/28/08, 5:45 pm EST

Jack White and Brendon Benson shocked everyone on Tuesday when they released the second album from their band the Raconteurs after announcing its existence just one week ago. The Rolling Stone review will appear in next week’s issue, but Rock Daily has the full text now. Click here for the review of Consolers of the Lonely, which Melissa Maerz says “comes together like a blissfully stoned conversation between White and Benson about their favorite bands: Led Zeppelin, the Who, Badfinger.”

Better than their first. not as catchy, but heavier and balladier.

my favorite album so far this year. An improvment on every level.

this is the best album I have heard in a while! really interesting and catchy songwriting. It might actually be my favorite album thats been graced by Jack Whites genius!

The best album so far of 2008. ‘Many Shades of Black’ stands out and ‘Carolina Drama’ is one of the best songs in the Raconteurs OR White Stripes arsenal. 4 Stars!

Best album of ‘08. The Raconteurs really pulled it together here.

Have none of you listened to In Rainbows? I’m by no means a serious fan of Radiohead and In Rainbows is my vote for the best. Jack White gets on my nerves, “Hey! You’re not that cool!”

I agree, this album is amazing…Radiohead is good…but come on the songwriting the hooks on this album blows Rainblows away. Wake up it’s time for some real music again…with real instruments…enough with the pro-tools, synths, and computers.

New Jack White music.
Hmmmm, let me guess… verse;chorus;verse;chorus;brid ge;chorus.
He’s a genius!

I must say that I have until i listened to this album, hated jack white. This album has not only changed my perspective but has also lead me to believe that the Buzz that has surrounded white will finally be tenable. This album is the best thing he has ever worked on. The raconteurs is the perfect outlet for an artist such as White. However, even more impressive is Bensons performance on the album: flawless and believable -unlike his previous recordings where he just couldn’t seem to keep it together. I believe that this album will in fact be one of my top of 2008.

Never heard Raconteurs before but this is definitely the best album I’ve heard so far in ‘08. Superb hooks and bass tracks, variety and great song writing. I’m a convert.

I’m pushing 50 and I haven’t been out of touch. This is the best stuff I’ve heard in many years. Jack White may be a little odd – but many geniuses are. Brendan’s got a voice as well. Writing and arrangement are what’s blowing me away.

this is the album steve marriott didn’t live long enough to make.it reminds me so much of “ogden’s” that it scares me,but in the best way possible.as of august,it’s the best l.p. of ‘08.come december,it may be in my all time top ten,as i don’t anticipate anyone else making something this fucking awesome.
