Axl Rose Thanks Dr. Pepper For Supporting “Chinese Democracy”

3/27/08, 12:06 pm EST

Axl Rose has responded to Dr. Pepper’s offer to give everyone (except Slash and guitarist Buckethead) a free can of soda if Guns n’ Roses finally release the long-awaited Chinese Democracy this year. In a press release, Rose says, “We are surprised and very happy to have the support of Dr. Pepper with our album Chinese Democracy, as for us, this came totally out of the blue. If there is any involvement with this promotion by our record company or others, we are unaware of such at this time. And as some of Buckethead’s performances are on our album, I’ll share my Dr. Pepper with him.” Slash will still have to buy a can, apparently. Still, we don’t think we’ll be hearing Democracy anytime soon, unless Gn’R goes all Raconteurs on us.

Axl would like to Thank Dr. Pepper however he regretfully prefers his Prune Juice uncarbonated.

Anyone else find it funny to see a Gibson ad w/Slash opposite this story?!

Locust | 3/27/2008, 2:05 pm EST

Who cares!!! GnR are done. He might as well call it Axl Rose instead of GNR. This album will flop. I guarantee it. No one cares anymore. I mean really, who does Axl think he is, Roger Waters!! I think not.

Javier Moreno | 3/27/2008, 2:11 pm EST

Chinese Democracy? Come on, Axl, the Olympics! use them as a catapult! Make a statement! I wonder how good that album, after years of being locked in, will sound…

Swingline | 3/27/2008, 2:39 pm EST

I’ll just drink my DP right now knowing this aint happening.
There might be a better chance of forming the Newest, Bestest supergroup yet, “Weiland and Roses”.

Come on! You don’t belive there’s a an album.

Jeff | 3/27/2008, 2:47 pm EST

Locust,

Your opinion is sooooooooo 1999.

Axl is Guns N’ Roses. Slash, Duff, and Matt, unfortunately, are Velvet “half-assed” Revolver.

Bring on my free Caffeine Free Wild Cherry Diet Dr. Pepper!

Would be amazing if Axle would get his act together and release the album as a protest against this year’s Olympics.

Frank | 3/27/2008, 4:34 pm EST

Seriously People his name is SPELLED AXL Rose. It’s not that hard!

Muchas gracias. | 3/27/2008, 5:10 pm EST

Axl would like to thank Dr. Pepper for putting his non-working self in the news, and for reminding him he still had an album to finish.

j | 3/27/2008, 5:49 pm EST

I can’t offer to buy everyone in the world a Dr. Pepper, but I can offer to pay Axl $16.99 per year, roughly the cost of a cd, for every year he agrees not to release Chinese Democracy. Will anyone join me?

Maybe, but... | 3/27/2008, 6:04 pm EST

C’mon J, aren’t you the least bit curious what 10+ years of toying with one album sounds like?
Then again, you may be able to hit a couple of cats with your car and hear the same melodies.

American Communism | 3/27/2008, 6:30 pm EST

Am I the only one that finds it odd that Axl stated he would share his DP with Buckethead? He did not need to add that. DP did say the deal was only good for 2008. If the album is going to ever get released this will be the year. Plus he can make one of those lame celebrity statements acting like he actually cares about what China is doing!!

Greg LEvesque | 3/27/2008, 8:41 pm EST

actually chinese democracy is 3 cds of 32 songs the last 2 will be released in ‘12

Greg LEvesque | 3/27/2008, 8:45 pm EST

last 1 sorry bout the the 2nd 1 will be released some other time after the 1st 1 or thats what ive read

Axl Rose has severe emotional scars from being molested as a child. From reading Slash’s book is sounds like he also has a mild mental illness. Both are evident if you youtube any of his on-stage rants. In his defense, some of the best artists have a touch of something that seperates us from them. But, yeah, for the most part he’s fucked in the head.

Axl Rose (Oral Sex) needs to get this cd out now before I like Slash again. Jeez.

on-stage rant | 3/28/2008, 12:59 am EST

Chinese Democracy is a concept album about a man who is confronted with two dramatically different choices. He can either conform within an oppressive system and prosper economically (i.e., CD), or he can speak-out against this system with its lack of freedoms and risk imprisonment or even death.

Slash & Axel dynamic made GnR awesome… the lack of one of these makes for a sub par expirence

Buzzardo | 3/28/2008, 3:53 am EST

I got it! GNR is NOT putting out “Chinese Democracy” as a political statement! By not releasing it, they’re saying that there will never be “Chinese Democracy.” So until Hu Jintao has to earn his f*cking job by actually getting votes from the people, GNR are cleverly sitting on it. Nice one.

C.T. | 3/28/2008, 9:06 am EST

You judgemental pricks, the lot of you! The music Axl has released is amazing, inspired and brilliant. The original line up disintegrated essentially because Axl refused the mediocrity that Slash was contributing. Slashs’ Snakepit record It’s Five O’clock Somewhere was his contribution to making the new GN’R record. Axl refused it. We should applaud such high standards. God knows we need it more considering today’s musical climate. Yes, it’s been ridiculously long since GN’R’s last record but maybe there are legitimate and real reasons for that. Reasons we are not aware of. Besides, the GN’R of today is an important, inspired and extremely creative bunch. The demos I’ve heard are brilliant. Some of the best aggressive music I’ve heard in over a decade. Applaud and encourage this musical growth, evolution and diversity that is Guns N’ Roses.

String Bean | 3/28/2008, 10:00 am EST

At this point the Dr. Pepper company has a better chance of producing and releasing an album than GnR.

Here’s a bit of irony for you:

I live in China (Tianjin) and bootleg copies of “Chinese Democracy” are for sale EVERYWHERE here. It’s a CD/DVD set.

The CD is obviously culled from leaked demos and the DVD is live from, I believe, Germany.

Upon listening to it, it sounds like a bunch of really cool songs BURIED under a lot of syntesizer and vocal effects. I pray that Axl decides to go more raw with the production between now and release time so we can actually hear the songs.

Performed live on the DVD, the songs really f’ing rock and are better than most of what’s out there today (which isn’t saying much).

I thought you said you lived in Indiana, Jeremy? Didn’t you also like in Seattle, Portland, New Jersey, and Canada?

As far as your inside info goes, those are pretty well-known, poorly kept secrets. You’re not bringing anything new to the table we haven’t heard before, Jeremy.

I heard the Chinese recordings and are amazing, hopefully they release the album soon, I am sure it will be a totall success.

Dalama | 3/28/2008, 9:31 pm EST

C.T. you need to check your facts before you start leaving comments, read the Slash Autobiography and you will find that Slash was the one doing all the work while Axl was being an absolute c*nt, whilst wasting all of the bands money.

jeremyindiana | 3/28/2008, 10:34 pm EST

My screenname is “jeremyindiana” because I’m FROM Indiana.

I never claimed to be an “insider”, just a guy who lives and works in Tianjin, China.

Nope, never claimed to “like” in “Seattle, Portland, New Jersey” or “Canada”, although I once briefly “like”d in Toronto for work.

I wasn’t aware that bootleg
copies being available in China had been previously reported as I hadn’t read it anywhere.

Given the amount of speculation on what the album will sound like, I thought I’d post some thoughts on what one fan thought of what he heard.

Just thought I’d clear that up.

Peace.

Slash can have my Dr. Pepper cuz I can’t mix it with vodka. And damn is Dr. Pepper really sinking this low to get some publicity?

C.T. | 3/31/2008, 9:21 am EST

hey Dalama, yeah, I’m going to take Slashs’ book as gospel. Seriously, think about that for a moment. Everywhere else you look, everyone who’s in the know states that it is Axl who “pushes the creative boundaries” not Slash. But if you read Slashs’ book (and I have) then it will also state that. Gee, I wonder who is more likely to be telling the truth. Everyone who has worked with Axl or the words in Slashs’ Bio co-written by Slash…hmm…

Mah | 4/2/2008, 6:25 pm EST

Axl is great!
C’mon, don’t you think he’s done a very good job ’till now?
stop annoyin!

markymark | 4/3/2008, 6:50 pm EST

if u dont think their is a CD then what r the completed tracks on utube. blues, TWAT, Chinese Democracy and better. plus madagascar is wild and IRS isnt too bad. i cant wait. Axl is the master of lyrics and is a perfectionist. Listen to the build up to chinese democracy, sounds like a bomb is gunna explode. its more than a album

Anonymous | 5/8/2008, 11:15 pm EST

I agree with Anthonii: all know that splited up they have no chance. They’ll never make a better band than they could together.
But I don’t think they are bad splited up, I like Axl’s job.

anyone else fear this thing will be dated? I think the title is prophetic…The album will take off like a Chinese Democracy.

WJCANC | 10/24/2008, 1:19 pm EST

Stop and think about it, does it really matter what it sounds like as long as it’s close to what was made in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Even Duran Duran would sound better than the crap bands are putting out these days. Lets see play the same three chords over and over as well as sounding like every other band out there just with a different name.

Don Ricardo | 10/24/2008, 2:08 pm EST

Izzy & Axl got to hook up in Saddlepeak see what evolves perhaps nothing but I hate to see a great band be influenced by the commercial/coperate bull. It should’nt be about the money. People “stuck in time” hunger for the old G&R that marked a time 80’s Rock & Roll.

Does anyone even care what the album sounds like? I listened to a bunch of it on Youtube and it sucked. the lyrics…man, the guy had a decade to write lyrics–he could take about a month per sentence if he chose to–but it was garbage. No wonder it didn’t come out sooner.
