News Ticker: The Who, Fleetwood Mac, Rivers Cuomo

3/26/08, 9:20 am EST

  • VH1’s next “Rock Honors” broadcast will be devoted entirely to the Who. Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey are scheduled to perform at the ceremony, which airs July 17th.
  • Fleetwood Mac are discussing a 2009 tour, but Lindsay Buckingham tells Billboard “I don’t think anything is written in stone yet” when it comes to the collaboration Sheryl Crow alluded to earlier this month.
  • Rivers Cuomo is using YouTube to ask fans for help writing a song called “80’s Radio.” Cuomo has most recently directed his co-writers to “come up with some chords, yo.”
  • Lou Reed, My Chemical Romance and Santana are among the acts announced for this year’s Beale Street Music Festival, taking place May 2-4 in Memphis.

Sheryl Crow is just awful. I’ve had enough of her.

Rivers Cuomo- that will be the best song you ever write.

I think you can officially be classified as “washed up” once you have to turn to YouTube and fans to come up with new material for you.

Sheryl Crow should just keep her mouth shut. I was going to buy one of her CD’s and then became frightened at the thought of her singing Christine McVie’s “Say You Love Me” or “Everywhere”. They’d be better off retiring Christine’s songs and just focusing on what Buckingham and Nicks wrote. Where’s Peter Green when you need him? I’d much rather here “Albatross” or “Rattlesnake Shake”.

Sheryl Crow frightens me. It is absolutely horrifying that she could possibly be singing “Everywhere”, “Say You Love Me” or “You Make “Lovin’ Fun”. Where’s Peter Green when you need him? Retire those old McVie tunes and revert back to the blues days.

It wasn’t my intention to post 3 messages about Sheryl Crow. She probably craves the attention.
The Who still record and perform at a very high level. Pete and Roger are the new elder statesmen of rock.

I cringe at the thought of Sheryl Crow in FLEETWOOD MAC. Her career is on the down slide, and she hasn’t had a ‘hit’ two albums down the line. She would destroy what remains of the great Fleetwood Mac. I hope Mick, John & Lindsey realize she is horrible for their band, and nix Crow’s desperate idea. Best thing to do is bring CHRISTINE McVIE back strictly as a contributing member on their studio albums only[she doesn't like touring]and Stevie & Lindsey can sing her songs when they tour, as they did last time out. CHRISTINE McVIE is an enormous talent, responsible for the majority of Fleetwood Mac’s “hits” and nobody will ever fill her shoes. The Fab Five will always be Christine, Mick, John, Lindsey & Stevie…nobody else will do.

You’re absolutely correct, Marc…CHRISTINE McVIE’s songs are sacred ground. CHRISTINE sings with a sexy, warmth nobody else could capture on her compositions. Sheryl Crow does NOT have the voice, talent, nor the ability to sing CHRISTINE’s songs. Stevie & Lindsey do an admirable job, and they were the back up singers on those recordings anyway. The world’s had enough of Sheryl Crow – her moment in time has passed, and she had a few to many, so she should be grateful.

After reading in the other posts to retire the Christine McVie songs, I can only say please come back, Christine! Keep that crowing bird Sheryl Crow far away from Fleetwood Mac and take your rightful place where you belong!
