Scott Weiland, Matt Sorum Fuel Velvet Revolver Breakup Rumors

3/24/08, 10:38 am EST

Singer Scott Weiland responded angrily to a blog post VR drummer Matt Sorum wrote following the concert where Weiland announced this would be “the last tour” by the band. As Weiland tells Blabbermouth, speaking directly to Sorum, “I’ve made many attempts to remain cordial with the members of VR, but mainly, the likes of you. Funny though — this is your FIRST band, as opposed to being a hired gun. I’ve been making records (now on my ninth), which have sold over 35 million copies worldwide and have maintained a level of professionalism regardless of how many drugs I’ve ingested into my system.”

Weiland even gets all Gossip Girl, saying, “I have only canceled one tour during the entire course of my sixteen-year run and that was the ‘make-up’ Australia tour. Now, shall I open that can of worms, Matthew? Release the Kraken? Serve … Volley! You canceled the Aussie tour in the fall because you went to rehab, but I won’t say why … we’ll just let Blabbermouth find out for themselves.” Weiland went on to say each member should know their place, that he would never steal Slash’s guitar solo and reiterated that these are the last shows. As for his reunion with Stone Temple Pilots, Weiland added, “On a separate note, we did an STP photo shoot before this tour and it was fun, inspiring and it gave me that thrill — that feeling that got my rocks off from the get-go.”

I think everyone on this website should just shut up unless they are in Nationally known rock bands such as STP and VR. Who are you to say what and who belongs where. Of course you all can be the prepubescent girls in rock music and try to say who and what they think these bands are when they have no idea really first hand what it’s like to tour nationally across the U.S. and Europe. Most of you should be beat down then Pissed on for being the punks you are. Eat that sisseys. P.S correction. Anyone can type in their name as Scott Wieland or Slash or even Matt Sorum. How do you all know that this is even them? You all are dumb cattle to believe these web sites. I like to stir the pan on these sites and fry me up some stupid cattle beef.

Scott Weiland is my boyfriend.

Kid-A | 4/7/2008, 7:51 pm EST

I think everyones forgetting who guys like Scott Weiland and Axl Rose are. They’ve both been known to cancel shows or show up late. Weiland didn’t show up for a single meet and greet on the last tour, but the other 4 members made all of them. It’s definately not about the band. It’s about the singer. All of you are idiots, if you think Weiland or Sorum tells the whole truth. All of them are using drugs and have been for awhile. It shouldn’t be any kind of surprise. Personally I don’t believe a word Weiland says. Today, with the STP press conference, we get to see how long they think they can last out on the road together. Probably one tour max, and an attempt at a new record, but nothing promising more than a few more “junk” and “blow” filled performances from Mr. Weiland, who has proven he can’t keep his shit together for more than 4-years.

As an old man of 51 I have see 200 or so shows and VR. Chicago(2004) is one of the best high energy hard rock shows I have ever seen. Simple set. All music. Scott and Slash urging the crowd as they propped a foot up on the monitors. Outstretched arms trying to touch the band members. Best in Rock band in the last 30 years. Contraband is one of the best in any collection. Will see STP in Indy. Will see if they can match the intensity. Kind of doubt it. Scott works the crowd so well that they might. Without his demons his art form would be lacking. Check the lyric sheet for Contraband. The man is the same as all of us that battle addictions. Go to a meeting. You might get a clue.

It’s test.
I could’t post a message…

fixit | 3/25/2008, 10:48 pm EST

Maybe this breakup will force GNR to reform, lord knows we are still waiting for Chinese Democracy, with the millions these guys would make you’d think they’d suck it up and get back together like Roth did with Van Halen. Glad I saw VR in concert with a surprsingly good Alice In Chains, damn I’ll be glad when rock and roll actually returns and MTV is actually MUSIC television. What happened to decent music.

W.AXL_FOLEY | 3/25/2008, 10:38 pm EST

YEAH I’M STARTING TO THINK THAT MAYBE AXL ISN’T AS CRAZY AS EVERYONE SAY’S, MAYBE IT IS THESE GUY’S. I’VE DEFINITELY SEEN THEM IN A DIFFERENT LIGHT. THEY ARE SNEAKY, ALMOST SHEISTY. I WONDER NOW IF AXL WAS TELLING THE TRUTH ABOUT SLASH COMING TO HIS HOUSE AND CALLING WEILAND AND THE OTHERS NAMES..? SLASH HAS PROVEN OVER AND OVER THIS YEAR THAT ALL HE DOES IS LIE. HE SAYS WHATEVER HE FEELS LIKE, WITH NO REGARD TO IT’S TRUTHFULLNESS OR IT’S ACTUAL POTENTIAL ON THE SCALE OF R-E-A-L-I-T-Y. IF ONLY HE’D HAVE PUT THE RECORD OUT ALREADY EVEN LAST WEEK, I THINK I COULD’VE GIVEN AXL THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT. SINCE HE’S SITTING ON A NEARLY 15 YEAR OLD RECORD, I’M GONNA SAY THIS GOES DOWN AS A DRAW, THEY’RE ALL A BUNCH OF SELFISH EGOTISTICAL JERKS. SLASH IS LUCKY THEY GOT WEILAND, BECAUSE HE WAS ALWAYS CONSIDERED GREAT, BUT ONLY IN VELVET REVOLVER HAS HE BEEN ABLE TO FINALLY AMASS THE BODY OF WORK NECESSARY TO BE LABELED A LEGEND. AND HE’S GOTTEN THAT, AND A TON OF MONEY FROM BIG COMPANIES FROM VELVET REVOLVER. SO HOW YOU GUY’S CAN HATE ON SCOTT, ESPECIALLY THE DRUG ADDICTION PART I DON’T UNDERSTAND. THAT MAKES NO SENSE. HE WAS THE CLEAN ONE THE WHOLE TIME. I CAN SEE YOU HATING THAT HE BROKE UP YOUR CLOSEST THING YOU’LL EVER HAVE TO GNR, BUT TO BLAME HIM? MAYBE HE DOESN’T WANT TO DIE LIKE HIS BROTHER. REGARDLESS OF WHAT YOU NEGATIVE “ONCE A SPADE ALWAYS A SPADE” SPADE’S THINK.

Know_the_Truth_First | 3/25/2008, 10:28 pm EST

wow,it is a different vibe in here now that the real truth is actually on the table. hmmmm. alot of people who themselves probably desipise being judged. were behaving like raving judgemental idiots, and now you look….like exactly that! go figure!!! hollywood people. not everything is as it seems. u know!? scott was the one with a spine the whole time… never commenting on the other guy’s struggles, or situations, while they were always ready to talk about him. he must be really pissed to have popped like that. he seems to really feel betrayed. i guess if i had the issues you guys so kindly pointed out, and got myself on a 4 year clean run, i’d be pretty pissed if someone started putting the stuff in them around me too… especially if when the Sh*T hits the fan i’m gonna get the blame from every direction?? f-that!!

FUK U | 3/25/2008, 9:32 pm EST

SCOTT IS A MUSICAL GENIUS!

Bukowski | 3/25/2008, 5:22 pm EST

All I’ll say to the Matt Sorum thing is: anyone who knows anything about rock and roll drumming knows that Steve Adler brought a badass no bullshit vibe to G n’ R.

The day he left, the stiff power- ballads began. No one plays more stiff and lifeless than Sorum.

Yeah, Steve isn’t Neil Peart, but Neil Peart was never what was needed. They needed a guy like Steven who smashed it out with a rock and roll passionate feel. He was (and probably still is) a heavy metal Charlie Watts.

The same people who dig guys like Sorum think Peter Criss and Alex Van Halen (the two most underrated drummers in the history of rock) are shit.

That’s just my opinion I could be wrong, but I’m not.

This is so predictable... | 3/25/2008, 5:12 pm EST

GNR will not reunite. Don’t get me wrong, I hope they do but they are so far from that. Besides, if they rush it things will fall apart after two shows. Honestly, after this I think Duff, Matt, and Slash will want nothing to do with big market, big ego bands. STP is an amazing group and I can’t wait to see them. I’m just happy that they will at least be continuing so we can keep getting more great music.

BARBARELLA_OWNS_YOU | 3/25/2008, 4:34 pm EST

that’s the best you have…? That show’s where weiland is in the wrong? that clarifies anything? Only Tool in that sentence is u.

He's Still a Tool... | 3/25/2008, 4:22 pm EST

What’s more pathetic, no solo album or Scott Weiland’s solo album?

Scott_And_The_Daves_Own_GNR | 3/25/2008, 4:10 pm EST

Had Slash’s sneaky little plan, with he Duff and Adler worked, where would that have left the genius Sorum!? The guy that somehow never get’s invited back when his band’s reunite… hmmmm…? The Cult? Not even a courtesy onstage jam… GNR? Not even a phone call! VR? His only real band? He’s blowing (literally) up! (his nose). We can look forward to some more STELLAR solo work from Mr.Sorum!

Dave_Navarro_owns_Slash | 3/25/2008, 3:53 pm EST

Yeah, and for anyone to ride Weiland’s drug use, after he was just clean 4 years, while the rest of the band were a revolving rehab door… he just didn’t throw them under the bus in interviews by talking about their “health” the way they did him all the time. They’ve been talking to Adler for years about a reunion but Axl won’t do it. FACT. Weiland beat them to the punch. Beat at their own game. Dropped by 2 singers now! You guy’s wouldn’t be crying if it were GNR reuniting, which means you OBVIOUSLY didn’t hear Axl’s last tour.

Dave_Grohl_Says_Hi_Axl | 3/25/2008, 3:49 pm EST

Yeah and Axl is such a professional, with all his walk outs after getting hit by a nickel… or his flat out no show’s… if you’re going to no show, at least you’d better not be sober! That’s not rock n roll at all! That’s just lame!

Dave_Grohl_Says_Hi_Axl | 3/25/2008, 3:49 pm EST

Are those same who are drooling over STP reuniting getting pumped at the prospects of Bush, Candlebox and Creed getting back together as well?

little Dave | 3/25/2008, 3:06 pm EST

Hey Scott!
You never went back to the little club to pay for your drink! JB was very nice to you and you should drop by and give her a tip.

Jon | 3/25/2008, 1:47 pm EST

Slash is WAY overrated… recycled riffs, boring Les Paul tone…GnR had fifteen minutes, and that was twenty years ago. Some of those moments were pretty memorable (”Jungle,” “Sweet Child,” “Mr. Brownstone”) - and most were snoozers (everything else). It’s all about songwriting, and that’s where the DeLeo brothers take the prize - with or without Scotty Weiland, although he does add. I’m surprised that the STP boys want to subject themselves to him again…

VancouverAndy | 3/25/2008, 11:21 am EST

“Hey Slash, where’s your singer?”
-Steven Tyler
That was an ongoing punchline whenever Steve saw Slash when he was in Guns’. I guess the joke continues! G’n'R for life!!

Bob the Builder | 3/25/2008, 9:09 am EST

Hey, Slash, Duff, etc - if you are looking for a new singer as good as Axl, I may have your guy - Scoop, Muck, Dizzy and Scrambler are all available. None could sing their way out of a paper bag, but the names definitely scream “frontman!”. Just drop me a line, fellas.

Scott Weiland | 3/25/2008, 9:05 am EST

And another thing, Matt, you couldn’t hold a candle to my own magnum opus “12 Bar Blues”. It featured a duet with Lita Ford on “Muskrat Luv”. Top that bro’. Yahtzee!

Izzy Stradlin' | 3/25/2008, 9:01 am EST

I actually was hoping for a reunion of Slash’s Snakepit with adding me on rhythm guitar, Crazee Eyez on drums, Dizzy Dork on keys and Snuffalupagus on sax.

Jack | 3/25/2008, 1:44 am EST

Good. STP’s music sounded better any way. Velvet Revolver just sounded too forced. Long live STP!

theintl | 3/25/2008, 1:32 am EST

really - weiland? sorum? vr? gnr? stp? this is a mediocre bunch of asswipes, at best, and yeah that includes slash. they should all piss off.

STUMPTHUMPER | 3/24/2008, 11:49 pm EST

What was all that shit about the guys in VR “having my back” when STP got sick of your charade years ago, Scott? Get over yourself, be thankful you have people who don’t beat you senseless. I would!

Redeemer | 3/24/2008, 10:26 pm EST

weiland possesses absolutely no talent. VR should get another singer or reform GNR.

Rock and roll | 3/24/2008, 10:21 pm EST

Does anyone really care what weiland has to say? Velvet revolver is a mediocre band at best and stp isn’t any better. I would like to see a gnr reunion. Bring back izzy and axl and jumpstart gnr again. That would be awesome especially if they could bring back steven adler but they’ll probably keep matt sorum on drums. For what it’s worth though, sorum is a great drummer. Anyway, let weiland return to stp and reunite the original gnr. Bring back the rock, man. Slash and the guys have lost their age in VR and axl went electronic for chinese democracy. Reform the group and get the Guns train rolling again. Rock is not dead. GNR tour (original members, no buckethead or other imitators)in 2008 and hopefully a new rock and roll record from the band. WHo’s with Me?

Anonymous | 3/24/2008, 9:45 pm EST

only one thing really to do….slash, duff, and matt..get izzy find a very cool girl singer….and get those riffs happening

J | 3/24/2008, 9:38 pm EST

Scott Weiland.. Sure has alot of talent when it comes to writing comebacks.. U guys read the sh*t he wrote to axl? He writes like a f’n 5 year old. Proving it once more with a letter to Matt. It must take him DAYS to make even ONE meaningful lyrical sentence for a Song! Its a Big fat EGO.. thats all Scott HAS and will ever BE.

Drew | 3/24/2008, 9:31 pm EST

Glad I caught them in concert since I was too young to see the original GnR live. Slash is worth seeing, Slither at the end of the concert fantastic.

I look forward to seeing what Slash, Duff and Matt end up doing next.

Rockstar70 | 3/24/2008, 8:45 pm EST

You guys at least have to stick around to rerecord PEOPLE ARE STRANGE for the new LOST BOYS II soundtrack.

Kurt'd Corpse | 3/24/2008, 8:44 pm EST

G&R SUCK!! Most overrated band of the last 25 years! Axl is an a-hole! A talentless loser.

Rockstar70 | 3/24/2008, 8:43 pm EST

It was fun while it lasted!

Chaz | 3/24/2008, 7:59 pm EST

STP Rules!!

GNR does not rule.

McGlovin.

Swingline | 3/24/2008, 7:58 pm EST

Not Gonna Happen

I think the only detail missing from that was how at the concerts they’re gonna dunk the double drummers underwater for a one of a kind “dulo” (is that what you call a solo for 2 people?).

NOT GONNA HAPPEN | 3/24/2008, 7:44 pm EST

OH HOLY HELL YES!!! YOU KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS … GUNS N’ ROSES WILL FINALLY RE-UNITE. ALTHOUGH THEY’VE ONLY BEEN BROKEN UP FOR 47 YEARS NOW, DON’T SPEAK TO ONE ANOTHER AT ALL, AND HAVE PUBLICLY STATED NUMEROUS TIMES THEY WOULD NEVER GET BACK TOGETHER, IT’S SO GOING TO HAPPEN NOW!!!
I CAN’T WAIT. I HEARD YESTERDAY AXL CALLED UP SLASH AND THEY TALKED ABOUT GETTING BACK TOGETHER!! IT’S SO GONNA HAPPEN! DUFF SAID HE TALKED TO STEVEN ADLER, WHO WANTS TO GET IN ON THE REUNITING. YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS!!! TWO DRUMMERS! IT’S GONNA BE SO RAD!!

chris | 3/24/2008, 7:25 pm EST

wow, can’t believe this was actually presented as a news story. i would rather read a detailed report about the farm industry. velvet revolver, STP and butts n’ roses are all about as significant as a toenails. journalism anyone?

RockGod | 3/24/2008, 7:12 pm EST

Weiland is just like Axl said Slash claimed he is: A FRAUD. Come to think of it, Slash also claims Axl is the most upfront and honest person he has ever met and says everything he means. Come to think of it, the way Weiland counter-mouthed Sorum is similar to when he released his blurb towards Axl on VR’s website a couple of years back. Granted, an STP reunion and a new album would be great. At least this episode will free up the air and allow GnR to properly release the magnum-opus that is Chinese Democracy. Maybe Slash and Co. can recruit Josh Todd and form Guns and Cherry’s or Buck Roses.

Swingline | 3/24/2008, 6:05 pm EST

Bold Prediction: Scott Weiland gets arrested and goes to another drive-thru rehab before the year’s done.
I hope there weren’t too many crickets in the audience when he announced this big STP reunion. By the time that group ended, they’d only proved they could make 5 albums with little to no difference between them.
They were fun in high school, but so was Jolt Cola, tape players in cars and MC Hammer.

Jeff | 3/24/2008, 4:28 pm EST

Raise your hand if you’ll miss Velvet Revolver.

Anybody? Going once…

…that’s what I thought. Bring on Chinese Democracy and an STP reunion!

The Dude | 3/24/2008, 4:04 pm EST

I’ve seen VR twice and they put on a good show each time (even on New Years in Miami when they were 2 hours late). Its a shame they are breaking up because there isn’t a lot in the way of good music these days and they were one of the few good bands out. But hey, I’d rather have STP and GNR (as unlikely as that is). But these GNR guys have an addiction to crazy lead singers like your friend that can’t stop hookin’ up w/ crazy girls.

Jon | 3/24/2008, 3:19 pm EST

Don’t know what happened to my post…

Anyway, suffice to say that I see VR as nowhere near the band STP was (is?), particularly in terms of songwriting & musicianship. One still hears STP music on the radio more than any nineties band, save Nirvana. Sadly, Weiland seems intent on disappointing fans yet again - I saw the Pilots in `02, and they cut their short after an hour for some undisclosed reason. I love Scott’s voice and keen sense of melody - his attitude? Not so much.

Swingline | 3/24/2008, 2:30 pm EST

STP was a good 90’s radio rock band, but that’s about it. Growing up with them around that time, if I’m ever in the mood to listen to STP nowadays, I usually find something better on the way and leave them on the shelf-fun at the time, but not memorable.
VR had a good energy in the beginning, like they were all out to prove something.
In order to keep doing the occasional GnR songs live, Slash and co. would need a good voice to fill in, but there’s got to be one that doesn’t come with the optional deluxe diva package.

AIC4life | 3/24/2008, 12:57 pm EST

These “supergroups” are due to failure (VR, audioslave..lesser ones) because egos far surpass even drug use in this case. Its like a rebound marriage and thats all. Weiland longs for STP, and both times I saw STP in concert he was pathetic. I could go on with Slash, Duff, Matt and the rest then bring in the GnR thing but to get to the point this last album was sub par at best and once the honeymoon feeling died, RIP VR

Meatwad | 3/24/2008, 12:56 pm EST

Just goes to show you that egos will always clash somewhere along the line.

These supergroups have a limited lifespan, no matter how good they sound. For whatever reason, the frontman thinks he’s superior to the group.

Stuporfly | 3/24/2008, 12:53 pm EST

This can only mean one thing - The Neurotic Outsiders shall rise again!

R n' R | 3/24/2008, 12:23 pm EST

Weiland is a wash-out. Let him go pout like the whiny 7-year old girl he is and always has been. He may think he has only canceled on tour, but he prevented STP from touring for YEARS because of his drug use. They couldn’t even schedule a tour to cancel.

VR can go get a real singer, one who doesn’t use 2-5 one-syllable words for each line in a song. I say go get Gilby.

Ali | 3/24/2008, 12:13 pm EST

Weiland is in no way, shape or form more honest than Axl Rose based on anything that we the public would know. I have no idea where anyone would get that. Most importantly, someone who knows them both, Slash, has said that Axl was like no one he’s ever known before in terms of being brutally honest. Anyone who’s seen GN’R live and seen and heard Axl open up during a show would believe what Slash has said.

Ali

Sanchez | 3/24/2008, 11:16 am EST

Does VR even have anything you might regret not ever hearing live?

Nah.

Just go away.

thewufs | 3/24/2008, 10:56 am EST

Haha…Weiland may be a dinosaur and a jerk, but I love this kind of thing. Lord knows he’s more honest than their old frontman (speaking of rich bipolars)…
