Adam Duritz on Counting Crows’ Early Days and the Inspiration Behind Their New LP

3/24/08, 7:02 pm EST

In the current issue, Counting Crows’ Adam Duritz tells Rolling Stone’s Brian Hiatt about the band’s struggle to be likeable, the dissociative disorder that derailed him for years and making their new album, Saturday Nights and Sunday Mornings (read the whole feature here). Click here for more from the forty-three-year-old singer who’s still rocking the dreads as he speaks candidly about the band’s early days and the making of their debut August and Everything After, as well as the inspiration behind their latest work.

Why are no nice comments posted, these people need to stop wasting their time and listen to other music. I saw Counting Crows live last night and they were great. Adam Duritz was energetic and enthusuastic and talented which is more thasn can be said for his detractors.

Have any of you ever listened to a Counting Crows cd all the way through, probably not..because if you had you wouldn’t post such bullshit. Counting Crows is BY FAR one of the better bands of the last two decades. You can listen to any of their cd’s from beginning to end without stopping..all of the songs are good, most are great. How many bands can you say that about!? Adam Durtiz is amazing. Amazing.

Of course, that’s all that’s left now: the memories.

‘Why does everyone hate them so much?’

Because their music stinks. It always has. They fooled some people with their first album because they had the right look and the right sound for the era. But then it dawned on people they were just a slightly-more-hip Hootie & the Blowfish.

They appeared on The View. That pretty sums it up for me. I should’ve known better and got out after Gene Wilder!

But I actually decided to give them a chance; I listened to the intro, and at about a half a verse, I couldn’t take it anymore and clicked them off.

who cares what he has to say? 2nd rate band, and a tour with maroon5 ? ’nuff said.

If Duritz would like to clue us in on what would inspire Counting Crows to stop making shitty music, I’d be all ears.

Kurt's Corpse | 3/24/2008, 8:39 pm EST

I love them!

Kurt's Corpse | 3/24/2008, 8:38 pm EST
