Velvet Revolver on the Verge of Breaking Up?

3/21/08, 5:40 pm EST

Are Velvet Revolver dissolving following their current European jaunt? Scott Weiland reportedly told a sold-out crowd in Glasgow, Scotland, that they were “watching something special… the last tour by Velvet Revolver.” According to fan reports, the rest of the band all looked at each other in confusion following Weiland’s statement.

In a post today, drummer Matt Sorum said, “So last night was interesting. Had a little band turmoil on stage, as you probably all could tell. Being in a band is a lot like being in a relationship. Sometimes you just don’t get along. I guess there has been more turmoil lately. It has been frustrating, I am not going to lie.” Weiland spent time in a rehab center recently, forcing a postponement of the VR tour. Weiland also recently revealed plans to tour with his old band Stone Temple Pilots this summer. How the band breaking up effects guitarist’s Duff McKagan’s claim that VR will open for a potential Led Zeppelin reunion tour remains to be seen.

good? wth? these guys r good i really hope they dont break up….i was looking forward to a 3rd album :(

mcache | 3/21/2008, 10:00 pm EST

god – I hope so. I have Weiland in my death pool

Rock and roll | 3/21/2008, 11:34 pm EST

Velvet revolver are a dissapointment. THe band is good but they could use another singer. WEiland can’t sing if his life depended on it. He can’t carry a note and he’s past his prime. SLash, Duff, and Matt would be fine without him. Get a new singer and continue. Where’s axl when you need him? Maybe GNR will reunite and axl can finally complete the CHinese Democracy album. Every band seems to be reuniting these days. WHo wouldn’t want to see GNR? Bring back izzy and maybe steven adler if he can keep off the drugs and there you go. Welcome TO the Jungle in 2008. Can’t beat that. Axl touring without the orignal band is bs. WHo knows. It could happen. Weiland reuniting with stp and axl coming back into the fold to reform gnr with slash and the guys. Probably wishful thinking but anything is better than that god awful weiland.

Freeze | 3/21/2008, 11:37 pm EST

Class Act on stage and forget to tell the rest of the BAND?? loser!!!!

Loki | 3/22/2008, 1:25 am EST

i know this sounds stupid and will not happen but what if the orginal gnr would reunite to open for a reunited led zeppelin. Its a long shot but one i think almost everyone would like to see.
weiland never fit in with those guys. nothing they made compares or comes close to any of the guns albums or any of the pilots albums

scott | 3/22/2008, 1:48 am EST

I liked Velvet Revolver, but the initial reason I started to listen to them was because I loved both GnR and STP. However the rest of the band has gotten to a point in their lives where they were able to get past the drugs and focus on the music. Weiland never really got off that wagon entirely. I like Velevet Revolver and I think Libertad was really fucked over at the Grammys for any of the Rock categories. Best Rock Album, best rock song for Last Fight and best Hard Rock Performance for She Builds Quick Machines I thought would have been nominations for them. I think they have revived rock and roll in 05. However, in the longrun, they might benefit from getting a singer that is more dependable. I doubt I will see them having the same success though after this.

ROBO | 3/22/2008, 2:31 am EST

All of you are insane, obviously nobody on here has ever seen weiland or VR live. If so you would not be happy about this. I challenge anyone to come up with a better live band out right now.

Cheesecrop | 3/22/2008, 5:42 am EST

If Weiland is leaving, I think a certain gentleman named Chris Cornell should be tapped to replace him. You’re probably never going to get Axl back, and Cornell splits the difference between Axl & Weiland vocally. I think he’d be the best bet overall.

Andrew the English bloke | 3/22/2008, 7:09 am EST

I really hope VR don’t dissolve – they’re one of the only decent bands out there (Pearl Jam & Metallica are the other great bands that spring to mind).

Loki:- you’re 100% right, IF original GNR reunited, they’d be best supporting act ever, they’d light a nepalm fire under the asses of LedZep.

Amanda | 3/22/2008, 8:51 am EST

I’ve always tried really hard to like VR, but I could never get into them. I’m a huge fan of GNR and STP, so I had high hopes for VR, but while I think they sound good, there just isn’t the same quality of song writing for me.

The True Bastard | 3/22/2008, 10:43 am EST

Nobody opens for Zeppelin. Nobody.

dan | 3/22/2008, 10:44 am EST

THANK GOD this is happening. Ever since seeing their performance at the rock n’ roll hall of fame ceremony a year or so back, I have had no respect for this band.

And whoever put out the challange to go see a better live band right now: I guess you havn’t seen Van Halen or Smashing Pumpkins on their 2007/2008 tour’s.

thomas | 3/22/2008, 1:36 pm EST

dan | 3/22/2008, 10:44 am EST

I totally agree with your comment.

I could never figure out how Weiland could go from the music of STP to the bad 80’s revisit of VR?
I love GNR and STP, VR won’t be missed.

jason | 3/22/2008, 3:19 pm EST

So sad,I saw ZE,OG GNR,VH 100 TIMES AND Velvet was just like VR live If Scott or Axl cared they were awesome,I hope they carry on with Duff as the Singer or maybe Todd from Buckcherry..too bad I hope Scott does not kill himself

gene | 3/22/2008, 7:26 pm EST

Weiland will quit and GnR will most likely hire Richard Simmons as front man via a good source. Other candidates are Bobby Vinton, Gore Vidal, and Gordon Lightfoot. This will be know within the next week.

Troy. | 3/23/2008, 5:49 am EST

Led Zeppelin suck!

Anda | 3/23/2008, 9:37 am EST

what???
velvet revolver is good…Slash rulz…

Anonymous | 3/23/2008, 10:20 am EST

best possible thing that could happen is axl rose reuiniting the former g n r velvet performers asses back into guns n roses and possibly even releasing chinese democracy, presuming they don’t die before the release date

velvet retarder | 3/23/2008, 12:37 pm EST

slash looks lick a complete idiot. get a hair cut, lose the hat,,,,or better yet, go smoke more cigs so you get cancer. you suck.

Bolt | 3/23/2008, 3:13 pm EST

U retards!!! Guns N’ Roses were the best band EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! VR should stay together i mean my gosh slither won a grammy. The only time Axl ever gets witin 100 miles of Slash (the greates guitarist ever) is in my dreams. Led Zeppelin rocks!!!!!! Stone Temple Pilots suck!! Plus how come Slash can’t find a Normal, Stable lead singer ??!!??

Saul Hudson | 3/23/2008, 3:16 pm EST

U @#$%*& retards better shut-up. VR won’t be breaking up for a long long time.

liveon35mm.com | 3/23/2008, 3:47 pm EST

have they ever formed?

Living in the Past | 3/23/2008, 5:36 pm EST

I see it like this…Weiland is like the guy who has cheated on his wife for years with a much older, less attractive women who was smoking in her day. He knows feel guilty and wants to come home. Home to Deleo, a FAR BETTER GUITARIST!!!!

Thelonious | 3/23/2008, 7:58 pm EST

Oooh! Oooh! Guns n’ Roses are such an awesome band! Led Zeppelin is the best! Oooh! Oooh!

*sighs*

ed | 3/23/2008, 9:58 pm EST

i cannot believe people think axl should get back with the rest of GNR. Have you heard him sing in the last 8 years? He is a coke fiend with no voice or even stamina to sing notes he used to nail. At least Weiland can still put on a show.

Roy | 3/23/2008, 10:24 pm EST

VR break up? Who would notice?

ThldsmnSNL | 3/24/2008, 2:01 am EST

I’ve seen them twice and have still yet to be impressed.

RayRay | 3/24/2008, 8:02 am EST

if this clears a path for a full-fledged STP ‘reunion’, then this is a good thing. i am a fan of all three bands, but STP first. axl is a wackjob and gnr will never be back together, i’ll take STP

This IS Mr. Stone Jones | 3/24/2008, 10:41 am EST

Slash plays one badass Guitar Hero…right?

tc | 3/24/2008, 3:09 pm EST

I HOPE NONE OF THEM OPEN FOR ZEPPELIN. IT WOULD DESTROY THE ENTIRE TOUR.

micahelangelo | 3/24/2008, 4:57 pm EST

The probelm is a lot of singers cant sing in post 40-50’s. But guitarist can play to the day they die. Axl is just to damn old and probobly couldnt keep a nice note back with GNR. Slash, Duff, and Matt are better off forming their own band(with a non-drugy vocalist)

Marc | 3/24/2008, 5:43 pm EST

You folks are quite the judgmental group.
I like Velvet Revolver. I do not know STP’s music that well, but do own two G ‘n R CD’s. Weiland has a decent voice and writes interesting lyrics. Slash is no Jeff Beck, but he’s better than a lot of his contemporaries.
I like the Chris Cornell solution that someone mentioned. Audioslave was a good band, much more listenable and melodic than Rage Against The Machine. VR and Audio have similar stories and Tom Morrello and Slash are about dead even in guitar skill. Perhaps, between the two of them, they can keep one band going.

rhodabear | 3/24/2008, 7:06 pm EST

When did Duff go from bass to guitar??

ryan | 3/25/2008, 3:45 pm EST

everyone should pray that slash and co hook up with chris cornell. potentially one of the best ever rock bands imo

Will | 3/25/2008, 8:47 pm EST

Can’t say that’s surprising. From reading Slash’s book, Scott never really seemed quite as much into the whole Velvet Revolver thing as the other guys. Plus super groups like VR aren’t exactly known for lasting very long.

metalhead | 3/26/2008, 1:49 pm EST

Have any of you read Slash’s book? or seen any recent interviews with him? He and axl haven’t talked in 12 years what makes you think they would do it now just because Scott pussied out of VR? I admit it would be great to reunite GNR but i severely doubt it will ever happen. but if it did Izzy and Steven would not make the lineup. Izzy is doing great in his solo career but he can’t tolerate the antics that slash, matt, and duff are known for. i also have to agree that Chris cornell should be called upon to fill the lead singer spot in VR.

Becky | 3/26/2008, 6:15 pm EST

Ok
who ever is trying to do down slash
seriously WTF
hes an extremely talented guitarist
he doesnt need to prove himsen to anyone hes done that a million times over
and of course Velvet Revolver was never gunna be anything like the Guns N Roses phenominum but there a talented band and have wrote some great stuff and have done well under the circumstances of their pasts, age and the music industry at the moment
and ok Weiland isnt the best singer
but neither was Axl Rose

i hope Velvet Revolver stick it out
i think it was a project that the band (Slash, Duff and Matt) were proud of

becky h | 3/28/2008, 3:02 am EST

VR needs to call Buck the singer for the OKC band 36 inches! He’s not an addict and can sing all that VR and GNR stuff! He’s got the heart and drive it takes!

pep | 4/1/2008, 8:23 pm EST

Chris cornell was the first to come to mind as well..i dont think anyone else could pull it off. It would be like watching the damn markie mark movie rockstar

TFP | 4/4/2008, 7:11 pm EST

I wouldn’t like to see Chris front Velvet Revolver. They really don’t seem like the type of band that he would work with, and as a Cornell fan, if he were to join Velvet Revolver he probably wouldn’t last long. Remember Soundgarden? Remember Audioslave? When the novelty of the two wore off, Chris up and left due to “creative problems” with the bandmates. Sorry, but it’s true.

Randell | 4/5/2008, 8:40 pm EST

VR breaking up ?

YES, PLEASE.

Pete | 4/14/2008, 8:38 pm EST

I just recently had seen the Velvet Revolver with Alice in Chains in the Portland Oregon area .Scott was very lively and energetic, as was the rest of the band. Scott and Axl both have good quality frontman skills to carry a live show. We lost Layne Staley to drugs and it’s a fucking shame. I only hope Scott gets whatever help he needs. I think Butch Walker would be a good fit, he really rocks his ass off live , and he wanted to be a hard rocker initially. Check him out and see what you think. I could picture him singing for Velvet Revolver. I get a cut though because it was my idea ok?. Chris Cornell is very talented yes,, but he has his own sound that will always be Soundgarden / Audioslave whoever he sings for is always going to be Chris Cornell with a band backing his vocals. I love Sammy Hagar but Van Halen sounded like Hagar with a good back up, unless you saw them live . Brian Johnson accomplished a good replacement for AC/DC , nobody really heard of him but now look, Bon and Brian each made it huge and unique. I don’t think Axl would ever reunite with those cats, and I’m not so sure they would want him to , but I do know Slash, Matt and Duff make it look sexy cool to be a rockstar. Thank you for joining me on ‘whatever makes you chuckle!’ I’m Pete. that is all.

Zach | 5/3/2008, 9:57 pm EST

ok Guns N’ Roses,Stone Temple Pilots, and Velvet Revolver are all equally good bands in my opinion.
i would love to see the original GN’R in concert but it aint going to happen!and axl and scott are both pretty good singers.and people,if you expect someones voice to stay the same for ever your fucking stupid in the head!even Brian Johnson, and Robert Plant’s voice’s have changed and they’re dont have the voices they once had!i hope VR doesnt break up,but it would be nice to have a new STP cd.but what ever its up to the band.all 3 bands are very very talented!
