The Raconteurs’ New Album Hits iTunes Early

3/21/08, 11:19 am EST

The Raconteurs surprised the music world when they announced Monday that their new album Consolers of the Lonely would be released this coming Tuesday, March 25th. Well, Tuesday came early, as the album is now available on iTunes. The band intended for the album to be released in all formats on Tuesday, as the press release stated, “The purpose: to get the album to the fans as soon as possible and as we promised. We wanted to get this record to fans, the press, radio, etc., all at the EXACT SAME TIME so that no one has an upper hand on anyone else regarding it’s availability, reception or perception.”

It turns out iTunes users have the upper hand. The Raconteurs also stated that they “prefer that fans buy the album as a whole instead of breaking up the tracks, but until iTunes and other digital services allows bands to release their albums with the option of NOT breaking it up, it will be sold in that fashion on those particular sites.”

UPDATE: That was fast. iTunes has pulled the new Raconteurs album from purchase. People late to the game are now greeted with a “No Longer Available” message (screencap after the jump). Thankfully, Tuesday is four days away.

What does Page have to do with it?

Everything.

readit | 3/25/2008, 6:34 am EST

These guys got it all going on, tight as hell rhythm section, the best out there. Their sound is huge, not cheesy. Full of good jamming, not gatuitous soloing or pandering to the audio illiterate, it’s a grown up record.
This record will appeal to a wide range of listeners, given the chance.
What does Page have to do with it? If you know anything about them, they share a mutual respect and are good friends.

Yea, I don’t know what all the hype is about. In case you didn’t know, RocknRoll is Dead. DEAD. …well almost.

Drink your coffee and twist your eyes. And suction cup your face to the wall. If you knew anything, then it is that: THE END TIMES are here.

At least we have The Raconteurs to help rock the end of time away.

Hell yea, I’m gonna rip this CD from someone somewhere. iTunes won’t get my money.

Let’s see if White writes one song that is still played 30-40 years from now; THEN can he be compared to Page.

“One of the most creative minds in rock n’ roll.”

Okay, how dumb can you get. Not that people were ever creative in rock n’ roll the first place.

But let me tell you something. The people who think this album are good are the kind of people who’d think this kind of album is good. Do the math. And it’s not a compliment.

Cheesecrop | 3/23/2008, 6:40 am EST

I had no idea anyone thought Jack White & Jimmy Page were meant to be mentioned together. Jack’s o.k. whether it’s the Stripes or Raconteurs. Page’s best work is in the past, so let Jack White see if he can measure up to it.

Delusions Of Granduer | 3/23/2008, 4:40 am EST

Jack, repeat after me:

I’m not Jimmy Page
I’m not Jimmy Page
I’m not Jimmy Page
I’m not Jimmy Page

I got it. Definitely better than the first one. The title track (the opening track) is awesome.

I give it 4.5 stars out of 5.

consoler | 3/21/2008, 9:36 pm EST

have lit…listened to it…its definitely drug-fueled..defnitely awesome….takes broken boy soldiers to a new level….still need to digest, but very happy w. my early listens…newpiano/krys player is escellent

DannyBlu | 3/21/2008, 8:18 pm EST

I was among the lucky ones to browse on itunes and see ‘Consolers’ there early this morning and bought it, but am still going to purchase the CD format. Listened to the forthcoming single “Salute Your Solution” and I think out of the first few tracks, the first number “Consoler of the Lonely” would be a much better first single choice. ‘Salute’ has very vocal likeness to Sting of The Police. I am still very fond of ‘Broken Boy Soldiers’ and this new album may need to grow on me for a little while (a few days). The White/Benson collaboration is working nicely for my ears and wish that the Rac’s come to the East (NY,Philly,NJ area) for their tour and not just West and Southern dates. Much luck to the Rac’s!!

The 30 second previews are still available if you go to the Raconteurs page and click on “See all songs by this artist” but the album doesn’t show up anywhere else.

Sure sounds good from those preview clips though… this is going to be a great album.

kc | 3/21/2008, 5:12 pm EST

Wonderful!! Raconteurs are a awesome band and Jack White can do no wrong!!!

Lawrence | 3/21/2008, 3:54 pm EST

How can you say they are horrible? One of the most creative minds in rock and roll back by a awesome vocals and a truely american sound. They have a great live show and change it up nightly. Can’t wait to buy the vinyl on Tuesday. Bukowski stop getting you music from PBS and go out and see a show?

Josh | 3/21/2008, 3:43 pm EST

I would definatly give this a chance, Jack White and Brendan Benson rocked on the last album and live shows are always worth seeing. They put on tremendous shows so go see them!

go listen to ronnie james dio

Trent Reznor | 3/21/2008, 2:52 pm EST

Who cares? A, they suck and B, download the whole thing for like $2.

Bukowski | 3/21/2008, 12:36 pm EST

I saw a live concert of theirs on PBS. They were absolutely horrible. If that’s what this band serves up on a regular basis, they need to give it up. Seriously.

matt | 3/21/2008, 12:11 pm EST

damn. I tried to purchase it but it’s no longer available. The thirty second clips of the tracks sounded really good though.

jason | 3/21/2008, 11:55 am EST

When you try to buy it, it says it’s no longer available
