It’s Official: The Raconteurs Releasing Album Next Week

3/17/08, 8:10 pm EST

Looks like the rumors making their way around the Internet earlier today were true: The Raconteurs have confirmed they will release their second album next Tuesday, March 25th. The record, titled Consolers of the Lonely, will contain fourteen new tracks and be available in three formats: vinyl, CD and digital (with fans also having the option to buy a 320kb version of Consolers from the band’s official site). “We wanted to get this record to fans, the press, radio, etc., all at the EXACT SAME TIME so that no one has an upper hand on anyone else regarding its availability, reception or perception,” the band said in a statement.

I’d much prefer another White Stripes album next week (you know something to replace my Icky Thump album). The Raconteurs are a sub-par band.

Corwin | 3/17/2008, 8:38 pm EST

ChiliPepper, you get your name from an incredibly subpar band, making subpar music since the late nineties

led head | 3/17/2008, 8:50 pm EST

The Chili Peppers are a million times better than either of Jack White’s bands. I`m a White Stripes fan but come on Corwin.

gould | 3/17/2008, 9:20 pm EST

No, ChiliPepper is right. The Raconteurs are sub-par.

suntzu2 | 3/17/2008, 9:28 pm EST

Can’t we all get along.

In todays “rock” world, great bands like the raconteurs should be appreciated, not hated.

Chilli Peppers also rule.

IckyThump is a great f-in album….

Re: Chilipepper’s complaint

You already got another White Stripes album. It was called the Conquest EP, and it was one of their best releases so far. Of course it was a little short…

D | 3/17/2008, 10:20 pm EST

So, basically they are ripping Radiohead for the way they released their album only on the internet first. That’s lame.

Eric | 3/17/2008, 10:21 pm EST

Look.

Raconteurs kick ass.

The end.

Primavera | 3/17/2008, 10:24 pm EST

It’s all rock and roll music, right? There are plenty of bands worse than the Chili Peppers, the White Stripes, or the Ranconteurs out there today. Be thankful for good music when you hear it.

~ | 3/17/2008, 10:42 pm EST

C’mon people! People have different tastes in music and that’s why music is so diverse! Personally, I think it’s awesome that different people and bands alike can find their own niche and express themselves as they wish. There’s too much hate in this world already and MANY issues more deserving of our attention than which band/artist sucks. Sorry for preaching, but it’s a silly thing to bash others for!

ChiliPepper | 3/17/2008, 10:52 pm EST

Hey, all I know is that I’m buying Be Your Own Pet’s “Get Awkward” tomorrow.

FYI Corwin: RHCP has been making “subpar music” since the early 90s, they’ve been mainstream since the late 90s.

Jack White 4 Life | 3/17/2008, 11:17 pm EST

raconteurs, white stripes, whatever
either are much better than new rhcp and radiohead

the other D | 3/17/2008, 11:36 pm EST

Actually, they are not ripping off Radiohead. If you can read you will see that they clearly state that the album will be available not only as the digital track format, but also as cd and vinyl at the SAME TIME. Radiohead let everyone choose how much they would pay for the cd (up to a certain point when released) whereas The Raconteurs are not giving that option. Oh, and just one more…Icky Thump was leaked last year, which really pissed off Jack White. An ill thought out comment… now that is lame.

yep | 3/18/2008, 7:53 am EST

well, everyone who does the online thing will seem like their “stealing” from Radiohead…but i like the Raconteurs, and Radiohead….but i must say, Radiohead are in a much higher sphere than The Raconteurs will ever be at, due to the amount of things Radiohead has down from 1992 to 2008….it like, you can’t compare them, they are totally different.

by the way, anyone who doesn’t like Radihead is missing out on SOOOO much, but i used to not like them, so i understand, but people, try to listen to them, because listening to Radiohead is like living in heaven.

shocked but not amazed | 3/18/2008, 10:06 am EST

What is wrong with you people? How did this turn into a “my fave band is better than your fave band” issue?

As far as “ripping off” Radiohead just because they’re releasing their music on the internet that’s way off base. Radiohead didn’t event internet downloads and lots of bands did it before them (just smaller name bands). It’s not ripping off, it’s the way things are done now. Come on people…smarten up!

Oddjob | 3/18/2008, 10:07 am EST

This is fantastic, I love this new thing of bands releasing an album immediately. I prefer The Raconteurs’ method over Nine Inch Nails or Radiohead because they are releasing the CD, which is an infinitely better medium, right away… rather than making us wait three months for a physical copy.

The idea that you can hear the new single on the radio and go buy the album right away is brilliant and should have been done a long time ago. I heard the new REM single three weeks ago and the album won’t be out for another two weeks (and I’m not gonna pay to download a single from iTunes when I know I’m gonna buy the album anyway)

nathan | 3/18/2008, 12:30 pm EST

I’ll be in line on Tuesday. Great news!

Rachel | 3/18/2008, 12:40 pm EST

What is with the whole “rip off” thing? In an interview with Rolling Stone, Thom Yorke (of Radiohead, if you didn’t know) said the release of In Rainbows was, in part, to motivate more music artists to release music on their own. Mission Accomplished.

SHITE BAND! | 3/18/2008, 12:58 pm EST

Jack White should retire.Has this moron EVER released something that wasn’t UTTER crap?

Jack White = phoney. | 3/18/2008, 12:59 pm EST

Only indie white kids fall for this crap.

Worst band since... | 3/18/2008, 1:02 pm EST

The White Stripes! YUCK,what kinda morons listen to this shite?

Bangers-N-Mash | 3/18/2008, 1:12 pm EST

The reason why I applaud The Raconteurs is because they are releasing an album w/out all the marketing mumbo jumbo. Usually, and album is delayed 3-6 months after it is finished to it can be hyped. Anyone remember this for the last 2 U2 albums? Songs being used non-stop and over saturating the airwaves before the albums even came out?

This model is going back a little closer to the way things used to be in the 60’s. If you can remember, bands used to release on average about two albums a year.
Nowadays, you’re lucky if you get two albums every five years.
You have the broken, over-bloated, only-interested-in-advertising record industry to blame for the slow down of releases.

Bravo Jack White for telling Warner Bros. how they should be doing things

Los | 3/18/2008, 1:16 pm EST

I agree with Rachel. Are people really that pissed that more artists are doing the online/quick release thing? Would you prefer that no artists do this at all for the sake of not ‘ripping off Radiohead’? What’s the damn problem?? And even if artists are supposedly ‘ripping off Radiohead’s’ idea, isn’t this the reason why Radiohead released In Rainbows the way they did to begin with? It’s catching on! Be proud of Radiohead, you dumbasses! And for the record, Radiohead, the Raconteurs, the White Stripes & RHCP each kick plenty of ass.

Sanchez | 3/18/2008, 1:34 pm EST

THIS IS GREAT NEWS, this album along with REM’s should make for a great April.

Respect! | 3/18/2008, 3:33 pm EST

Great Idea… Can’t Wait

Pervis the Magnificent | 3/18/2008, 3:46 pm EST

This news is bodacious. To qoute the vernacular of the youngsters, I’m going to “fucking rock n roll dudes!”

matt | 3/18/2008, 6:25 pm EST

This is a very cool idea. I look forward to picking it up next week

jwhitefan | 3/27/2008, 10:54 pm EST

Jack White brings energy and a style that I havn’t seen in a very long time. The stripes albums are all great and this new Raconteurs album is really starting to grow on me.

Sean | 3/28/2008, 10:30 am EST

I enjoy reading the comments of those people who dislike jack white. The reason being is most of them have probably gotten sick of hearing seven nation army or some other bullshit reason. The truth is Jack White knows how to play the guitar, search any live white stripes on youtube.com and you’ll see him playing BLUES. yes Blues, he mixes blues and rock in a way I’ve never heard before. Search for his cover of Son House’s (a blues musician I’m sure YOU GUYS know…) Death Letter, White plays slide guitar amazingly. Every Stripes album is amazing, my fave is De Stijl, so awesome.

Oh, and radiohead is our generation’s pink floyd. Most people though will never come to know this. The common man enjoys simplest of ideas, activities; in a word the simplest life possible. Who dare wants to THINK about lyrics??!?!

The human genius seems to exceed all expectations only to take a step backwards when applied to the average human being.
