An innovative four-part set of compositions that employ haunting melodies. Ghosts I-VI is a masterful work of mysterious timeless music that will be appreciated for millenniums. Like abstract paintings composed of shades of a single color, Reznor’s explorations of sound incorporate just enough variation to remain beautifully disturbing. The uniform quality of these untitled 36 tracks, plus their judicious sequencing, were assembled over a ten-week period. Devoid of lyrics, the music and tone poems found here are a mix of profoundly beautiful, terrifying and dissonant. This album is for anyone with enough musical sense to look beyond standard pop music structure and dance beats and a willingness to explore abstract darker electronic music like you’ve never heard before. This double-disc set provides an exemplary introduction to the quieter facets of Reznor’s expansive, idiosyncratic aesthetic. This album stands as a rare, mind-altering jewel.
