David Hernandez Stripped of Shot at Being Next “American Idol”

Even though he forgot the words (twice!) to the Beatles‘ “We Can Work It Out,” fan favorite David Archuleta lived to sing another day, being among the first batch of people to make it to next week’s show. Arch will get an opportunity to flub another Fab Four classic next week, as we learned the Lennon/McCartney catalogue is so vast, Idol will mine it for another week. This week’s guest performance came from former runner-up Katharine McPhee, who apparently didn’t get the Lennon/McCartney memo as she sang the George Harrison-penned “Something.” In the end, the bottom three consisted of David Hernandez, Syesha Mercado and Kristy Lee Cook. Mercado was spared, giving her another week to work on her lack of personality. Despite a universally panned performance of “Eight Days a Week,” country fans came out in droves to save their sorta-Underwood Kristy Lee Cook from getting the guillotine. Instead, it was Hernandez — just one week after his stripper scandal — who was sent home, much to the delight of the clientele at Dick’s Cabaret in Phoenix, AZ.

When is Idol going to mine the catalog of Henley/Frey?

David was one of the best singers. I think fox rigged the show so he would get kicked off. Just because of his past. Who cares if he was a stripper. He is one of the better singers

Simon always says that people should look at the people as singers/preformers and not a looks contest ok well David was definetly a great singer I think becouse he stripped they used that against him big whoop if he did thats not what it was about

With David Hernandez and Danny Noriega going out in consecutive weeks with whiffs of mild scandal and Christy Lee Cooke’s lackluster performances. one wonders how much more entertaining the show would be right now if they had allowed Kyle Ensley, Amy Katherine Flynne, and Josiah Leming to pass through. Imagine a top 4 that included charismatic performers David Archuletta, Brooke White, Carly Smithson, AND Josiah Leming. A duel between teenage stars Archulette and Josiah would have been legendary. Josiah Leming should be there, he went on the Ellen show and rocked the house…
